The "primitiveness" mechanic is really broken from a logics perspective. How the hell can the animist tribal natives can be considered non-primitive (or more advanced) societies than the Incan, Mayan or Aztec societies? It must be the opposite!
I only once played Aztecs when they came out. I will never forget that horrible experience for a noob. Doom everywhere!

The doom stuff was kinda fun tbh. btw, you can kill one of your vassal's ruler or heir to lower your doom as well. Funny how to lower doom you just need to kill people.

That was the worst DLC ever introduced, the Aztecs had advanced tech, 100k special event troops and spawed in the easiest region in the game
It seems they fixed this... just got the totemist province and can not convert to it from animist.
Just looked through the game files, now you need them have you force converted by actually rebelling ...

@@Imper1um__ I just binged a lot of the eu4 ones he made last year, and I agree. Personally I don't think youtubers need a lot of bells and whistles, his vids were more explanatory than anything. They were labeled guides and mechanic explanations, why I was watching them.
But I didn't find them boring, if anything its the Oxford dictionary of content that needs to be absorbed to understand basic game mechanics thats boring. Ludi makes it a lot easier to digest and understand.

Just want to point out to those that wanna try it themselves: you can also only accept one culture either yucatec or putun and convert the other province to that accepted culture (as you can convert into bordering cultures, not just your primary one) to use the monuments sure it takes a bit longer but it saves you the slot for another culture you might find more useful to accept
with Tlaxcala I usually take the fort and destroy it for future wars, so I don't have to endlessly re-siege it.

Yaqui is pronounced as Yaki, made me laugh hearing ludi trying to say it as ya cui.
I personally like playing as Tarascans, it really gives a great touch to the area while trying to figure out how to deal with the Aztecs during the run as a Nahualt nation. An underdog story cause doom can be a tricky situation to deal with cause without Tenochtitlan monument you really can't expand. But doing totemist was a rather interesting turn of events and now I want to try the same with Purépechas (Tarascans).
As an odd additional information, Tarascans is the name the mexicas (Aztecs) gave to the cultural group mostly in modern day Michoacan state that kicked their ass every time they tried to invade (reason the Aztec empire did not expand westward). But the group called themselves Purépechas (which is reflected correctly in the Spanish version of EUIV).
It is probably how the English language works. We don't call the Queen the Keen.
@@IronWolf123 quite understandable, I can agree on that, still funny, and now that I think about it Ludi is usually pretty on the nose regarding culture at least from the old world... I would have hoped he'd give as much detail to the new world too.

I sometimes wonder on what grounds Paradox decides the names. I mean sometimes they use the English ones and sometimes the local ones. So that's also different depending on the localization? Makes sense I guess.

I tried this, and i do not get the animanist zealots at all. The province is slowly getting converted but no rebels at all. Has this been changed in the latest patches?

You need to lower the missionary maintance to 0. This way the unrest from converting religion will surpass the unrest from separists

As soon as you get one or two institutions developed, all the neighboring Totemist tribes should try migrating towards you in order to snack said institutions from you. So getting some Totemist provinces should be really easy ;)

two tips to add for Aztecs:
1. Before you switch to animist make sure you have positive stability. Switching religions doubles your stab cost until you convert your provinces. (my ruler died and i had a -1 stab event)
2. Develop your trade center to lvl 2 in Mexico before spending mana points to spawning first institution
Was wondering how to deal with the inflation from the gold mines?
A inflation advisor and economic ideas can help with all the inflation
Otherwise conquering non gold land and dev them so ur money isn't the main source of income

In case anyone play, why religion rebel didnt trigger, first u need trigger separatist rebel first then u can spawn religion rebel

Ludi said that thing about RNG and it's really funny because I'm playing a Teutons game and I managed to get quite a few provinces from Poland in my first war against them. I prepared for my second war to take even more provinces and consolidate my holdings, but there's a little problem: POLAND GOT MUSCOVY UNDER A PU!
Now, true, they have 100% liberty desire, but still, it's gonna be a tough war.

I was able to convert to animist, but not to convert to totemist. Why? When i send the missionari and i click on accept demands, the only effect is +10% clery influence and -1 stability

I did this in the most recent patch bro, 1.33.3 so it works, just piss them off, dont increase autonomy, etc, and they pop up

if you convert a culture with a monument can you use it?
For the central American monuments you need to have the province with an accepted culture and the corresponding religion for said monument. Ex. Tenochtitlan has to be Nahualt

It's a bit complicated. They were very advanced in some ways but quite behind in others. What I didn't really understood was, why becoming Animist changed it.

How do you deal with the massive levels of inflation an infinite supply of ducats brings? Does Totemist or the monument remove inflation from gold or?
I got no inflation problems. Got minus 0.20 from advisor and other modifiers actually so was quite manageable

I am Mexican. Flavor tip: Nahuatl is pronounced "na-watl". The h is mute but indicates its not "now-atl".
Ist there a way to get a colonist as totemist apart from choosing the expansionistic ideas? You get 1 colonist as Nahuatl Religion.
Why is totemist better then Nahuatl?
To be fair, the Aztecs probably didn't have stronger armies than Brandenburg in 1444, but they probably were more professional
Inflation is just a number.
I think "X" in Nahuatl is read as "sh"
