i have almost finished my first semester at art school (in australia) although i dont live out of home (just yet) i still think it is important to make connections with others, and also i 100% agree with everything you said esp. about critics and learning new skills and techniques. you bought up some useful points that i think i will try to adapt for my second semseter xx
Do one on the stress of moving into a dorm? Figuring out what stuff you need before getting there what stuff you needed after getting there. What stuff you actually needed vs. ended up being just clutter how you communicated with your roommates on who brings what

I am international student who want to study in NYC. Of course i have not lived in USA so i do not know about preference of artschool. Maybe im gonna major fineart.
Is parsons known for only fashion?
And do they care about other major same as fashion? (Such as opportunity of internship)

parsons is actually part of a bigger school called the new school. parsons focuses on art and design so i think you would go to parsons

Am I the only mom who watched this video? I was actually searching for student reviews on Parsons and saw this video first...really great tips. One quick question: from your experience at Parsons, would you say that the school was good at providing you with good support and resources when it came to running into a challenge/obstacles in school work or did you find yourself to having to deal with challenges/obstacles in your school work all by yourself?
Just fascinating! Great take on going to college. Your advice is excellent, insightful, and exceptionally intelligent. I find you to be quite intelligent and am blown away when I witness true genius in and of itself. I am so impressed with how successful you are with you blog, but completely understand it after watching a few. I am passing you on the my 16 yo daughter, who I also expect will enjoy you. Keep up the great work and thanks for the entertainment and opportunity to learn so much about an art school student. World Class advertisers!

Could you maybe talk about the expensiveness of going to college. And the experiences and people you know who are lower income but going to school? It'd be really great for me to know... I wanna go to art school so bad but I don't know if my family will ever afford it. I don't wanna be drowning in student debt but I want to achieve my dreams.
Alicia I hate to be the one to bring bad news, but due to the high cost of art school, high cost of the cities some of the best ones are in, and the low job prospects (particularly with decent paying jobs) with art school degrees, they've basically become exclusively for kids with rich or rich enough parents. Many may argue their parents aren't rich since they aren't living in some luxury NYC apt and parents aren't buying them luxury clothes, but that $1000/month+ rent (with roommates living in a borough, not Manhattan) and whatever extra money their parents give them is still a big deal and odds are they will offer to pay at least some if not all of the cost of attending the school. Not everyone who goes to art school has rich parents, but it's important to keep that in mind and realize many will not admit it unless you are close friends with them. That said, if you do go, I recommend finding one with a great reputation that is in a more affordable city than NYC. I know some are out there. Of course, if you are in NYC, that will give you better connections within the city (true no matter where you are, the school will offer you connections to places closest to it), but that comes at a very high cost. I also recommend aiming for something that can lead to a decent paying job, such as later becoming a UX Designer for a startup/tech company, which pays pretty well. Or doing print or video ads. Not a glamorous, pure artist life, but only the rich can afford that luxury. You can still do your own art on the side as well. However, I am just one person, so I'd go out and get as much feedback as you can, not listen to just me or someone saying the opposite ("Live your dream!!! You can do anything!!! Money is no object!!!").
I know that at Parsons at least, they give out pretty generous merit/financial aid. I was lucky enough to have half of my total tuition payed for via scholarship, so don't lose hope! Obviously, New York is a super expensive place to live so you'd have to budget a bunch (If you have the time, cooking for yourself instead of getting a meal plan can really cut down costs), but there are tons of great things to do/see in NYC for free.

please make a video talking about what school @ the new school (eugene lang too) is like! im thinking about going there next fall. its so hard to get a good read on the school bc its so pricey to visit nd im tryning to afford college ! itd be awesome if you could talk about the pros nd cons of the school nd what stands out as compared to other colleges (part scene/professors/classes/residential life etc) thanks!

Vincent Le my doctor wrote a note about my personal eating problems and explained i would be better off without the meal plan
My art school was hard hard hard. They spent the entire time trying to get you to cry or quit or both.
But then, that is exactly what the art world is like.
