Totally agree that he deserves the respect. Like or hate his method, the guy is a machine!
NO he doesn't. Hes an idiot.
I do not realy like him but I will never hate him. I only can admit that he is the most gifted and commited driver of our time.
@@CrazyTuco1 And you are a moron.Hey,look how easy is to offend somebody,so cool,Im sure I will build muscle after few comments like this lol
Marc
We absolutely loved this. When Micheal was so dominant people were just fed up and wanted another result. Lewis is the same. When he eventually retires people will then look back and say. We were around when we saw a legend of our sport. Great story mate and great full you sharing it. Nige n Debs Down Under #askelvis 👌🤙🏻
Michael was only dominant in 2002 and 2004. Mercedes have had far less competition and for longer.
@@ciaronsmith4995 too much hate..
You guys forgeting Schumi had a sole driver contract... Lol
He certainly deserves more respect than he is afforded. It make me wonder when people always say he wins bcoz of a good car...and everyone conveniently forgets his drive, determination and attention to detail. He's a great champ this guy
Elisha Dibakoane I agree. This confirms what others in F1 have always said. He makes the team and car better. The team works hard for him and he drives hard for them.
People who say that are really only revealing things about themselves. There is nothing more pathetic than trying to take away from someone else's success.
sandman1347 Well said
@@briansaben5697 I cant say it better than you have mate
@@sandman1347 100%
That race was the first GP2 race I ever got to see. By halfway through it, I actually called out to my husband that I was watching a future F1 champ. The only other one I've said that about, since being married over 30 years ago, was Max at Spa. Hubby's not in the slightest bit interested, but I still tell him :)
Kudos to you
That is a great insight into the mind of a young Lewis Hamilton. I remember when he first signed and raced for McLaren. I think he finished 3rd in his first race ? which was incredible. Seeing a young black dude in F1 was very unusual...and still is unfortunately. That is what initially made me want him to succeed. Little did i know just how good he was, and still is. Great stuff Marc. peace to ya.
Turkey 2006 was so epic. The racecraft and natural feel, the yellow helmet. TH-cam came out in 2005, so I remember back then the early racing highlights were the best. No videography and dramatic music, just highlights and engine noise. I remember when Lewis's epic Turkey race highlights were put up and people were just in awe. That was a strong field and that early spin would have dampened the confidence of most. Lewis took risks that race that could have detrimentally affected his championship run...but he still was calculated and ballsy enough to go for the gusto.
I thoroughly enjoyed this insight into Lewis's start in F1. He had the right attitude from day 1. His Dad taught him well, He has a remarkable character. He wasn't perfect, made some mistakes but who doesn't. Mistakes are expected in life, its how you turn them around/or rise above them that matters. People tend to use those to judge him, but who made us Judge and jury over anyone's life. He has shown time and time again how to rise after those really bad days. #yetstillirise and he's continuing to make history as he does. I am thoroughly enjoying watching. Love you Lewis!
Liked your comments
There were a lot of racism towards Lewis inside the team he tell us went he retires can’t wait for the book
Here now, this is the comment section, there's no room for this sort of well written content :)
You were there, right at the start, helping the GOAT start that mighty ball rolling. Cool.
I was 6 whenever the GP2 series was on as a highlights programme for ITV, Although the name Lewis Hamilton sounded familiar, I wasn't able to follow the races properly or to put it like this watch the highlights of the race and not have a clue what's going on behind the action of the event.
But as soon as I watched video clips about him of when he was so superior to the other competitors Like the F3 Euro Series in 2005, when he absolutely obliterated the whole competition to win 15 out of 20 races to clinch the title and withstand the challenge of Nelson Piquet Jr. to win the GP2 Series a year later really signifies what a prodigy he was going to become to British motorsport.
Like Turkey 2006, to come out almost from the doldrums of being plum last to pip Adam Caroll to finish 2nd in the support race justified a true making of the champion of a man from stevenage who would be crowned the future king of formula 1 not to be the first black driver to do so but in the history of grand prix motor racing that will cement him with the all time greats of F1 and previous stars before him like Tazio Nuvolari, Rudolf Caracciola, Bernd Rosemeyer, Richard 'Dick' Seaman, Achille Varzi and many more.
I really learned and understood the fact of his shyness behaviour in a way that he is a guy that wants to keep a low profile but at a same time by getting stuck in into all sorts of physical activities by unlocking his mental strength and ability by utilising that behind the wheel of a race car.
Elvis, Once again, your story still inspires of wanting to get involved in formula 1 even today and I couldn't help by saying thank you for sharing this wonderful and inspiring story because your in depth about your personal experience, knowhow and insight made me delve more into the chapter and indulge into the incredible man that is the one and only: Lewis Hamilton.
Cheers Mate and God bless you. Love Eman or Manny
P.S. Having mentioned about his dominance in his second year in F3, one of the rounds that he won twice was the Monaco Grand Prix F3 race and remains the only driver of this century to this day to have done that and the last to do so (when the series was a 2 race round at that time), That'll give you some knowledge that he managed to do it in F3 before going on to do it in the GP2 Feature race and again in F1 3 times with McLaren (2008) and Mercedes (2016, 2019).
Thoroughly enjoyed this Marc. Nice to hear you say good things about Lewis. People seem to be looking for any opportunity to put him down. He deserves better recognition for what he has achieved as you said. I'm off to buy your book now. It sounds fascinating. I will be watching on a regular basis from now on. Love tales from the treehouse, thank you! 🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great book! Really well written and holds your attention all the way through. I've heard reports that Lewis still to this day spends a lot of time in the garage and factory and is as curious as he was back then, asking questions of every mechanic. I believe he's the hardest working driver on the grid.
Hey matey, I appreciate your insight into Lewis' character. I feel very frustrated with all the trolls who have been nowhere close to the paddock. How strange when the history book, divers, mechanics, and any other person involve in F1 believe that he's among the greatest but some dudes out there thinks it's just all a scam, that this shit is all made up. We have a bunch of absolute super stars on the grid and let's just be happy to be part of this lifetime instead of comparing apples with oranges.
Fascinating...just reinforcing the nature of his ultra competitive spirit and will to win...he's not shy anymore but retains humility.
Lewis Hamilton my Hero. The greatest of all time. You have given the world a genuine and Frank content. I hereby subscribe to this channel.
Greatest nope.
Greatest Of All Time!
👍
Yup greatest of all time statistics tells it all not talk or people's opinions
It's the stats that count and no one can argue
Anyone who says Lewis doesn’t care is clearly talking out their arse. He seems to be the most misunderstood driver on the grid
He's also the only black driver on the grid, perhaps there's a correlation
@@AS-cw9no I'm not saying you're wrong but he also has a very calm demeanor, no shouting no crying, no toxic ego that is associated with "men caring". Does part of that come from being the only black guy in the room and having to be better then everyone else to get half the credit maybe. Maybe it's just his way.
Hes a total moron because he supported that BLM farce.
I don’t have to agree with Lewis his personality to admit that he is the most gifted an committed driver of our time.
I don’t care what other people say, but I kno Lewis is the best sportsman in the uk. 6 times World champion... confident, passionate, dedicated ,a positive mental attitude and the will to do better. Can you imagine what the England football squad could achieve if they had Lewis’s attitude
Lewis's performance that day is....still 1 of the most impressive things I've seen in racing. Ever. Perhaps the most impressive by a driver who didn't win the race.
I’m a Vettel fan, but Lewis is definitely an idol. And I’m gonna buy the book😉
Hey there Xuan, i am a Lewis fan...but have massive respect for Vettel. He is an incredible driver, a 4 time world champion. Vettel is not given the respect he deserves these days. I know he has had a few bad seasons...but he is a true champion..peace to ya.
I have just recently finished the book ..It was excellent ...There are a few suprises in the book
As racing driver a idol , but outside of racing nope. I won't be surprised if believe's that Earth is flat and his anti vaccine stuff blah blah .
"There were fights internally over who was gonna have which driver, and they weren't fighting for Lewis"
Marc talks about this in his book. He describes how they all wanted to work on Alonso's car because of the obvious fact that he was a proven world champion while Hamilton was a relative nobody at that time but Alonso fanboys have been lying about this for years. They all love to claim that Alonso joined a team that only supported Hamilton but it's just a load of BS.
Alonso had the whole team wanting to work with him and then started lying to the Spanish media about McLaren only supporting Hamilton because he couldn't handle getting beat.
M T Ever heard of such a thing called performance bonus?
Correct ,but as also pointed out lewis was no angel. and so was not totally innocent as people think ..Strangely the same scenario happened at Merc when Niko was there ..There is a PR lewis And the one we do not see behind the scenes
@@cancracker Performance bonus is, of course, a thing but having the chance to work with the best is priceless...
@@jenningbernard exactly, you may only get one chance...
Alonso fans have a problem because they can’t accept that Lewis was too damn fast. One wonders what would have happened if he’d raced on Michelins though.
Your perspective on Lewis’s beginning is truly unique, and apparently quite intimate. 😆 Thank you for sharing!
I don't get starstruck by many people but if I ever got to meet Lewis I think I'd just crumble into a pile of nerves
I'd be like that if I ever met Marc.
@joshsmith You don’t have to worry Josh. I and my family were lucky enough to meet Lewis at pre season testing in Barcelona in 2019. We had to hang around for an hour but his then assistant Angela kindly told us when he’d be coming by.
He’s an absolute gentleman. He spent time talking to my wife and I and posed for photos with our lads. Can’t speak highly enough of how open and friendly he was.
I hope you get the chance to meet him, you won’t be disappointed.
Lewis is a Legend and he IS the greatest driver of all time.
He’s got a great car but he’s the one who’s helped develop it with Mercedes.
He’s the one telling the mechanics and designers what’s needed. Giving the team the feedback, telling them what’s going on on the track.
Without Lewis the team would not be able to make the changes that have been proved to work.
I know a driver is only as good as the car but the car is also only as good as the driver.
Both car and driver have to work in sync and Lewis is the master at this.
Mercedes would not have the car that they have today without Lewis at the wheel.
I remember there was a story about Senna where he told his McLaren mechanics that there was a strange noise coming from the engine of his car. They checked and checked but couldn’t find anything wrong. Senna didn’t accept their findings and insisted they check again. He was right. It was a faulty cam shaft that if not replaced would have failed during the race. Driver and car as one. Lewis takes this to another level.
Spot on, with the car development. I said the same to myself about Damon Hill with that Williams that Mansel won with, because of Damon’s input, not taking anything away from Lewis, just another driver not respected.
Its insane that you got to work with Lewis before he became the GOAT. You and your team helped him become what he has became.
I loved the narratives from the little tree house. Amazing insight of Lewis Hamilton.
He is using Lewis’ name now to sell his book
That gp2 race.. Is one of the best things I've seen. Unbelievable race. 🔥🔥👌🏾
Great content I like that you made this because lewis gets alot of hate about having the best car. But if you follow his career from the beginning you will realised he was only going to become a multiple world champion he has dominated from childhood.
Thanks you Mark for remaining us that talent is not always enough .It has to be back up by hard hard work. Lewis must be a workaholic ,someone with forensic attention to details. I do agree with you ,he must be acknowledge a lot more.🙏
I'd love to hear Lewis' memories of that trip. Would be really fun. 👍
I am a Hamilton fan and do appreciate very much your monologue.. Great vlog -- keep it up!
If anything, Lewis today’s seems to be the amplified version of what you’ve just narrated. Fantastic insight in to championship quality. 👌🏼 thank you.
The post picture with you & Ham. What does it say?? I’m, a huge, huge admirer of Lewis & what he’s been able to not only achieve but more importantly, what he’s been able to wring out what’s available to him time & time again.
It says "Elvis, it's crazy how time flies!"
Wish I could give you 2 thumbs up. Great book btw and even more interesting when you are giving us essentially an unedited version of it. 👍👍
Love this segment. The comeback in Turkey in 2006 was sensational.
How is the follow up book coming along??
It's on hold, along with the 2022 cars...
@@F1Elvis haha
Marc Priestley F1 Elvis well the treehouse sessions has whetted a lot of appetites for the next instalments after reading the first book!!
Keep it up
For all his qualities, he was an impetuous little bugger during those early years and that almost certainly cost him the opportunity to have another title at McLaren IMO. That aside, I loved his tenacity and sheer talent from the first race that I saw him in action, which is why I've been a support ever since (besides him being a fellow Brit, of course)! 🙂
That was really moving Elvis!
People constantly seem to look for a reason to criticise and find fault with Hamilton and it's a real shame. The guys a once-in-a-generation talent and it'll be a long time before we see the likes of him again. I think that of the current drivers on the grid Verstappen is as close to the raw driving talent that Hamilton has but whether he has the same mental fortitude and desire remains to be seen.
Gonna make me buy your book, aren’t you.
Do it see what an angel Marc truly is lol
😆
The only other driver I believe was that intense was the man himself, Michael Schumacher... These people are just different.
Ayrton was every bit as intense as Lewis & Michael.
People who say he's not the best because he drives the fastest car need to listen to this... People are so ignorant about Lewis's journey...
Just watching the replays of his GP2 drives remove any doubt of his ability
Agreed. He’s in the best car and people say anyone could win the WDC in it. Maybe so but could they win five of the last six and more than likely this years title as well? I doubt it.
put max in a mercedes and see if lewis still wins every race, hes good AND he has no one racing against him, the car is 1 second faster and bottas is just mercedes yes man
asasasasa the fact that Mercedes is has been willing to give him multiple year contracts at probably a huge cost despite the prevalence of talent on the grid (such as Max) that they could easily snap up is a testament to the value he brings to Mercedes - it's not an argument against him.
OK put Max in a Mercedes and then what? If Lewis could draw level with a double world champion as rookie, what makes anyone think he won't be able to handle Max now that he has 6 titles?
@@neilwilliams2883 First put Max , in the place of Bottas, then we will see . Yes he beat Rosberg, Button, Fernando but it doesn't mean he is better or worse than Max , and enough of assuming that he beat all those guys and he will run over Max, easily like it's walk in park. Fernando and Lewis , had same points so I wouldn't consider he totally beat Fernando. It's a draw.
Best advert on TH-cam! Looks like I’ll be ordering the book now. Superb story.
Mate I have seen your channel grow , you are doing an excellent job
Thank you
Marc just want to say Thank you for making actual videos, youre one of the very few that actually do this, most people make a slideshow and just voice over it. Just kind of hit me the other day, you actually put in alot of work for these, atleast by me, it is very much appreciated and noticed! Hope even more success for you to come!

Can't imagine how it must feel to be part of the team that started the career of what is almost certainly going to be the most successful F1 driver ever. Mclaren spent years trying to take down Michael Schumacher in his prime now I guess they will sort of have succeeded many years later in beating his records
This was one of the most fascinating talks I've ever watched. I seem to get more impressed with Lewis Hamilton as the years go on. He is the greatest, such a phenomenon and an inspiration.
Great presentation skills once again Marc, well done.
Thanks for sharing all these wonderful insights into the nascent genius of Lewis Hamilton. You truly had a privileged seat to F1 history.
Marc, your storytelling is phenomenal!
I noticed Lewis from his first F1 race and was thoroughly impressed.
For a while Fernando probably felt slighted to be compared to a rookie, but in hindsight it actually showed his ability.
What a treat. Thanks for the read, just like bed time story. I was clued to my laptop throughout. I must confused i had to go back in time to watch the Lewis comeback in Turkey in 2006. More of this please, Mac.
Great story and an insight into what makes Lewis tick, then and now. This is a really enjoyable series.
Always thought Lewis has a incredible concentration level, instilled by his dad Anthony at a young age -ref. Watch his blue-peter appearance, driving a remote controlled car and my comeback for the people who say he's in the fastest car is 'how come his teammates aren't world champs? Rosberg got lucky and got out!
Yes, and how come Vettel didn't win in the fastest car in 2018 www.gpfans.com/en/articles/2673/ferrari-has-the-best-car-but-not-the-best-driver/
@@AS-cw9no He's not winning now is he? Selectively choosing the one time this happened is proving to be seen outlier, do you know what that is? Outside the norm, now stop trying to detract. You people are everywhere trying to draw attention elsewhere, stop the jealousy.
This was great to learn! You can still see that excitement and attention to detail in him today. He's real and that's the best part.😊
Q: Marc, how did you become such a talented writer & raconteur?

Thanks so much Mark for sharing this story...absolutely lovely inside story like the ones I am usted to hear as my father was a great touring cars mechanic himself, these heart warming stories I grew up with in a race track in Uruguay are the best. Thanks so very much. Keep doing what you do.
Brilliant insights Marc. Gonna buy this book
Excellent work Marc, I am buying your book and keep up the great work. These stories need to be told.
👍
He reminded me of another brilliant driver back in the mid-late 70’s, sadly didn’t have the luck and his father didn’t have the money when he went from kart to formula ford. Parents sold their house to get him a chance but that fell through. He went on to be a world beater in weight lifting..Lewis Gee from Southampton
It's really nice to see so many positive comments about HAM rather than the bashing. His rookie season was as good as anyone.
You are right Marc, F1 drivers appear to have an unusual talent, but only a few have this drive to perfection, that few people can sustain. Niki Lauda definitely displayed this characteristic also.
Thanks for the read!
Thanks for sharing Marc, you sold your book here!
Thank you, hope you like it.👍
It’s been a great read so far, you’ve done a great job moving into the media lane Marc
That race in Istanbul was one of the very, very few GP2 races i watched live.. And what a race it was, it was truly astounding how fast Lewis was compared to anyone else. It is notable however that he was taking a LOT of risks, he flipped the coin several times and had all of those flips turn up in his favor. Regardless of "luck", it was absolutely not luck that made that performance look just.. astounding. I dropped what i was doing too, i was locked on that screen. And i really, really didn't care about GP2 back then.
Fascinating insight Into Lewis and the team.
Excellent video as always 👍👍
Loved it Elvis great tales from the tree house.goes to show youngsters who are making there why in any form of sport.even in life going that extra mile shows what is possible. I suppose it's do your best in what ever you set out on.keep up the goods work.
As a white person who was born and brought up in South Africa I was very pleased with Lewis got the drive. I thought that it was long overdue that a person with African heritage became a driver. I still am a fan of him.
You must be buzzing with Binder this season
I wish I could give this more than just one thumbs up!
that is why is so good he has a identical way of high attention to detail just like ayrton senna that is how and why they stand out over the rest cuz they strive for perfection in the littlest ways and every way
You're a lucky man Marc! One day, I'll get around to reading your book.
I actually have a degree in Automotive Service Technologies, unfortunately I no longer pursue a job in a public automotive shop mechanics setting but I have always dreamt in wonderment what it might be like to be apart of an F1 crew like you once were.
But I live vicariously through you, good enough for now. Keep up the great work, I always look forward to your videos and insights!
As I recall, he almost won the championship in his first year. Just that slide into the gravel in China prevented him from doing so. I was horrified when it happened. So close to his 7th championship. Perhaps the cleanest racer in history?
This was great, I’m gonna have to get a copy of this book.
I never get enough of this video, or any of your videos, for that matter.
Marc, you're a star.

What a fascinating insight! Thanks Marc. Really appreciate your inside experience.
I loved your treehouse story. I'm glad your book is available in Audible so I bought it.
Great insight Marc!!! I remember watching Lewis in GP2 in Silverstone. You just knew he had something special.
This was the last bit of convincing I needed to buy the book.

PS. You are a great story teller Marc (very expressive and captivating)!👍🏽 ...I bet your kids loved listening to your bedtime storytelling! 😀
Would love to see a segment done with you and Lewis to remind him about how his life started with McLaren and just to hear his reaction to the way his f1 journey started as usual your tales from the treehouse are so interesting you need to put together a full compilation of them keep them coming stay safe looking forward to the next one 👍
There is a full compilation in the playlist.👍
Great story Marc. I’m saving the book for my holiday later in the year. I presume Alonso wasn’t with you on your trip.
Haha, hope you like it....no, Alonso wasn't there, he was still a Renault driver at that point.
Hi, I literally just bought your book "The Mechanic" online because of this video. I knew my next book would probably be F1 related, but I never though it would be a book focusing on the mechanics. However for an insider's perspective of F1, I'd think there'd be no better insight than from your point of view. Looking forward to the read!
Hope you like it.👍
Many thanks! I will buy your book and not because of this chat but because your naturally way of sharing your thoughts and experiences. Congrats Marc!

Could you tell us the story when he decided to leave Maclaren for Mercedes? People all talked about him to go backwards, career suicide.
At the time I thought he was being reckless and doing it for the money. It turned out as the best driver move anyone has ever made. McLaren haven't won a race since then.
@@AlonsoRules Insane move & hats off to him on his part, he clearly got to know Niki Lauda who convinced him. P.s. Sure McLaren haven't won....but the 2 podiums they've had since have come directly from Lewis punting off Albon to clear way for Sainz/Norris to finish P3....Still helping McLaren all these years later lol
both podiums were not on merit that's for sure
McLaren still have a long way to go
Many people was born to do great things.
Lewis Hamilton was born to race cars.
This series of stories from treehouse is fascinating. 🙂
As a Finn though I must say 20 people in 15 person sauna is normal thing. 😁 You just sit every second one a bit back and every second one a bit more front and problem solved. Of course you can always use the lower benches too but with that amount of people it's not yet needed 😄
Can't thank you enough to give us a personal close view of a champion/legend.

A lovely piece and an insight in to a rookie who will one day become possibly the greatest of all time .. Keep giving as content like these it's Amazing .
My ideal drive Lewis Hamilton. Thank you for a in inspiring. Uncut story . Keep up with your good videos God bless regards Malaysian F1 Fan.
Great story Marc! Would love to hear your perspective on Hungary 2007,and how that affected the dynamics within the team.
Thanks Ben, I've done one on that race, check the Tales From The Treehouse playlist👍
Hi Marc, would be interesting if you could give us your view on the journey of Stoffel Vandoorne at McLaren's and why it didn't work out well. Could you do that or would you feel uncomfortable with this?
This would be interesting, never understood why Stoffel (who was brilliant in F2) just didn't 'cut it' in F1 🤔
@@peterh9238 Not only in F2. Also in other race classes. His first F1 races were impressive and all of a sudden it started to go down. I can't believe that Alonso alone was to blame for this. There must have been other factors playing. One can not suddenly unlearn how to drive....
Enjoyed and love your tree house stories. Subscribed to your channel and bought your book on Audible
Thanks very much. Hope you're not disappointed.👍
Awesome stuff, what a great insight into the early days. Cheers Marc!
Great story, love this series, maybe you could tell about your first day/weeks at Mclaren.
Great Story Marc. The 2007 season was fascinating, it would be good to know what was morale like in the team during and after that season.

I think the best racers, cars or bikes do have a special ability to process information, or some types of information, much faster.
There is a massive amount of information flooding in at those speeds.
Starting young would certainly help develop that.
There are some things that if you don't get as a kid, you will never get.
Whatever the story, Lewis has a lot of it.
Love it pal love listening to you stories about lewis your channel is top class f1 content and love your TV shows I've watched them all have you any more coming up

Loved the insight. This is quickly beocming a feature of my friday evening!
Re-watching that '06 GP2 race, I recognise a few of the names (Glock/ Di Grassi/ Piquet Jnr.), but there are quite a lot that I don't recognise. #AskElvis What happens to those GP2/F2 drivers who don't make it into F1 / FE / LMP1. Are there enough elite motorsort series around to cater for all the drivers?
No, for many it's the end of the road.
