- Explore the breathtaking trails of Vienna's northern Wienerwald with me in this exciting adventure! 🌲🚵
In this video, we'll embark on a journey down memory lane as I revisit two of my beloved hometown trails, the Dornröschen and the Schönstatt Trail. These trails used to be my stomping grounds, nestled in the northern Wienerwald, but since I moved south of Vienna, they've become a bit too far for regular visits. However, this fall, the time had come to pay my old home trails a visit, and you won't believe the transformation they've undergone in recent years! 🍂🚴♂️
The Dornröschen Trail has now taken over the upper section of the Schönstatt Trail and starts its exhilarating ride from the Vogelsang Berg. Check out the video description below for all the juicy trail details and links.
Not to be outdone, the Schönstatt Trail has also received a facelift in recent years. Its final section now follows a new route with thrilling berms and tight corners, leading to the original trail's endpoint at Siedergraben. 🌄🤩
These shared trails are part of the Wienerwald Trails network, thanks to the dedication of the Wienerwald Trails association and its countless passionate members and volunteers. They tirelessly work to legalize, establish, and maintain a multitude of mountain bike trails in and around Vienna. 🌳🙏

What a great trail system. I'm glad you got to go back and see all the new construction. Kudos to all the volunteers and advocates of mountain biking.
We have a great community in and around Vienna. It's a metropolitan area with almost 3 million people living there. The mountainbiking community is small but very well organized and vivid. The forrest region around Vienna is called "Wienerwald" and therefore the local trail organization is called "Wienerwald Trails". It's mainly volunteers that built a trail system of dedicated and shared (with hikers) trails. And the organization managed to legalize quite a lot of trails in the area. One has to know that according to Austrian law mountainbiking is basically illegal everywhere except for where it is explicitly allowed. And luckily Vienna is one of the regions in Austria with the most kilometers of legal trails. It's all possible due to the volunteers building and maintaining and taking responsibility for the trailsystem around Vienna. We pay a small yearly fee to the organization in order to help it fund new projects.

Schöne "Rückkehr", Christian. Sicher wie gute alte Bekannte treffen. Sehen auch fein aus die Trails. Find die Sache mit den Ehrenamtlern (auch im Wortsinn) unbezahlbar und das im bikemäßig doch stark reglementierten Österreich so Trails möglich ist. VG, Piety
Absolut, genau so ging es mir auch auf der Runde Piety! Und ich stimme Dir voll und ganz zu, es ist der Initiative von vielen Freiwilligen zu verdanken, dass sich in Wien so ein tolles Angebot entwickeln konnte. Auch wenn (noch) nicht jeder Wunsch in Erfüllung geht, aber die Community erzeugt doch mehr und mehr Druck und damit Öffentlichkeitswirksamkeit. Und so ändert sich auch langsam aber sicher der Stellenwert unseres großartigen Sports!
@@gobikeyourself Moin Christian - ja, wirklich - beide Entwicklungen schön zu sehen.
Angesichts dessen, dass es organisierte Bergsteiger-/Wanderer-Vereine schon seit gut 150 Jahren gibt (Vorsprung), wurde für MTBler in den ersten 50 Jahren schon was erreicht.
Und wenn die Außenwirkung und das Verhalten der Biker überwiegend(!) positiv bleibt, is' das ein guter Weg.
Dazu kommt: "wir" werden ja auch immer mehr ^_^

@@D0nP3droNaja von einem "Alpenverein" für Mountainbiker sind wir noch Lichtjahre entfernt, und ebendieser behandelt das Thema Mountainbike - zumindest in Österreich - noch sehr stiefmütterlich. Aber die Entwicklung geht in die richtige Richtung!
@@gobikeyourself Ja absolut - war auch so gemeint, dass da eine andere Interessenvertretung quasi 100 Jahre Vorsprung "vor uns" hat. Aber die Richtung passt - yes.
I can see why you run hand guards. You were right up in the shrubbery at times 🙈
Yes it's pretty tight between the trees. And since my right pinky finger isn't flexible anymore after last years injury it sticks out like a speer it's the main reason for the knock-guards 🤪
