Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R. takes on this dilemma as it relates to the accident that nearly cost him his life as well as the major natural disaster of that time.
Fr. Groeschel was a psychologist, spiritual director, and member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal.

I was lucky enough to attend Fr. Groeschel's lectures in Nutley, N.J. when he was starting out. I eventually went to one of his retreats in Larchmont N.Y. around 1980 with a prayer group. I was able to have a private confession with him. He was one of the most intelligent men I've ever met in my life. I'm very proud to say I knew this Godly man.

Jesus I sure miss him. He is the real deal. He asked us to pray for him in purgatory after he died. I think he went straight to heaven. I pray for help every day. I know it. I believe he's a saint. I can't explain. Yeah he's in heaven praying for us. I just know it. Listen to his words for his words shall bring you to St Joseph Mary and Jesus. He won't steer you wrong. Love you Father. Keep helping me from heaven. James.

When we are granted a miracle, or saved from a horrible fate that most people don’t get spared from, it confers a very serious obligation on us. We’re not special, or better than the people who succumbed, and we’re not to go back to our comfortable lives. It’s so we can pick up our Cross and bear fruit.
