I really appreciate the sentiment, but this qawwali is in reverence to Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS). We Shia Muslims believe in full faith he was the rightful successor to Prophet Muhammad by the words "Man Kunto Maula Fa Haza Ali Maula".

I've read through many beautiful comments of people who describe being overcome with emotion at hearing these words. As a Muslim and follower of Imam Ali (as) l can explain it to you. Imam Ali(as) was known as The Lion Of God. Although he was blessed as the successor of the Messenger of God Muhammad(saw) he and his blessed and pure family experienced great oppression and suffered tremendously at the hands of successive usurpers and tyrants. Imam Ali(as) was a magnificent warrior who never abandoned his master the Holy Prophet(saw), he was the champion of the orphans and a guardian of the widows and poor. If you knew his story and that of his blessed family and his true greatness it would shake your soul and bring you to uncontrollable tears. Ya Ali.

The composer of the Qawwali was: Hazrat Amir Khusro
The couplet "shah e mardan sher e yazdan..." is written by Mueen ud din chisti aka Khawaja Ghareeb nawaz.
The tarana( dara dil dara...) is written by Amir Khusro(composer of the qawwali).
The last two couplets(haiderium, qalanderum...) are written by Sharafuddeen Bu Ali Shah Qalandar Panipati renowned as Bu Ali Qalandar.

I was mesmerized by the entire performance done in a church by artists from many cultures & creeds. My father was a pluralist and taught us to be the same. He would've loved this. Finding this was as much a result of Google's analytics as a gift from my Dad. 💖

I lost my Mother three years ago on Christmas Eve. Christian, Muslim, Sikh or Hindu the loss of a loved one is something we all feel in the depth of our souls. Qwalli music is amazing and even though I am Canadian with an Italian background the music touches my soul in a way I cannot explain (I too prefer the older, more traditional style) but music is a beautiful way to bring people together. Maula has over 20 meanings in Arabic. Most popular is master, friend, judge, etc. In this qawalli which was written by a popular Persian/Indian Sufi poet Amir Khusrau who lived in India from 1253-1325, praises Imam Ali a.s. The phrase “Man kunto Maula fahaza Ali Maula “Whoever I am his leader, Ali is his leader.” The Prophet took Imam Ali’s hand and lifted it. This event called Ghadir khum was a sermon that took place after Prophet Muhammad s.a.w last hajj and it was Allah swt last revelation in which Allah swt revealed that “Oh Messenger! Deliver what has been revealed to you from your Lord; and if you do it not, then you have not delivered his message, and Allah will protect you from the people, surely Allah will not guide the unbelieving people.” Surah Al Maidah 5:67.
“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed my favour on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion.” Surah Al Maidah 5:3.

Ali was not only the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, it was the father of Ali, Abu Talib who was given sole custody of raising the Prophet Muhammad after the passing away of his mother and father. Muhammad was 30 years old when Ali was born and this was 10 years before the first revelation of the Quran came to the Prophet Muhammad.
To put it simply, Ali was raised by the Prophet Muhammad.
Ali was married to the most beloved daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, the leader of the women of paradise, Lady Fatima.
Their 2 sons were called Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain and they had a sister called Zainab.
It is believed that in Islaam by the Sunnies that Ali is the leader of all the Saints, and Sainthood is achieved by having a unique spiritual connection with Ali.
The Qawals often recite in the love of Ali, and are simply intoxicated by the love of Ali and their spiritual connection to him.

@@Elif_sh Sunnis don't believe in Hazrat Ali they believe that Moula Ali is last after Abu Bakr,Umar and Usman. This song is praising Hazrat Ali and is clear in its language that the Writer considers Moula Ali to being much superior to everyone else after Prophet Muhammad and this writer and lyrics are clear about it. Sunnis should make song about Abu Bakr and Umar and try not to steal Shia songs for themselves.
Heck Sunnis don't even consider Man Qunto Moula as Sahih Hadith let alone in consider Hazrat Ali as Their Moula and their Leader after Prophet Muhammad. You have Abu Bakr so stay with Abu Bakr.

This Kalaam always brings tears to my eyes. The man they're singing about is considered to be the Saint of all Sufi saints in Sufi Sunni Islam. His name is one of Allah's attributes, and the man was entitled "Lion of God", but still so many of his companions and 70+ family members were sacrificed to keep Islam from being hijacked by mis-interpreters and extremists. No man like Ali (PBUH) will ever walk the face of earth, and no sacrifice like his could be made. 😭❤️
