She is probably the cutest character in Dragon Age. The only thing that bothers me is that you're not snarky. She's so much cuter when you're snarky... Like Hawke: *says some crazy ass sarcastic thing* Merrill: wait, how could that ever happ- oh... right.... Sarcasm~ So cuuuuute
It's mixed. Some sound more Irish like the guard you first encounter on the first meeting with the Dalish. Then there's Marethari and Merrill who sound more Welsh. As a Welsh person myself, I can tell the more Welsh-sounding Dalish accents in DA2 are quite akin to the ones you get from the Glamorgan Vale.
Oh I love all the stuff about the clan objecting to her dating a human. I don't remember getting this with a female Hawke? She said some really sad and quite uncomfortable things about not being as beautiful as fem!Hawke instead. This is so much better!
I both love and hate this character. She's got a cute personality and I love her dialogue. But as a Welsh guy it's painful to listen to sometimes. The accent is dialed to cartoonish levels with certain turns of phrase. And 'da'len' kills my soul. When darling is said with some of our regional accents it sounds just like that.
If they wanted a cartoonish Welsh accent they should have gone for the valleys accent lol. It'd be hilarious seeing the fans trying to decipher what she's saying while mistaking it for a strong scottish/irish accent. Honestly though, it would be funny, I'm really good with Welsh accents and can even speak Welsh (even though I sound very english) but even I can't understand the valleys accent sometimes. I honestly feel like the voice actress is doing a fake Welsh accent sometimes. It slips in and out too easily.
I’m really late here, but ‘Da’len’ is the Elvish word for child, often a term of endearment someone younger than you. If you take Merrill on the mission to save Lia, the young elf child, she refers to her as ‘Da’len’ when assuring her that she’s safe. Though you likely know by now.
I never saw the friendship path for Merrill. I have to say its pretty awful. Hawke is a door mat and blindly follows everything Merrill does and wants. The rivalry path is faaar superior for her.
@thomas brady Yeah nothing wrong except enabling a foolish blood mage to endanger herself and those around her. There is nothing abusive about the rivalry path. The fact that you think there is say more about you than anything.
@thomas brady Lol, lets ignore that blood magic IS dangerous. It can and has gotten people killed in DA2 whether on purpose or accidentally. Did you not pay attention? It often harms the user and other innocent people as shown in game. You seem to be an enabler that would rather not say a bad thing to Merrill to spare her feelings because you are soft and don't mind being her doormat. Being her friend means getting her keeper killed AND her entire clan. Ya know, the people she was trying to help but failed miserably because you were just providing Merril with lip service the whole time. Telling someone they are being stupid and doing something dangerous is not belittling or abusing someone. There's a difference.
@thomas brady You have a point there. But it would be great if you could argue without making baseless assumptions. I have many issues with almost all Bioware romances with female characters in general including this one. If you break it down to brass tacks, the development that leads to most relationships are a bit of a stretch. Many will want you only after you do something for them. In DA2's case there are unrealistic circumstances (like Isabella and Merrill) or arcs that don't work. Both of Merrill's romances are ridiculous and I don't care for either. One is an enabler and the other is trying to save her at times. As far as I recall I am pretty sure I never said I "liked" the rivalry side. Just that rivalry was the better of the two. Because to me, its more tough love/concern in most instances rather than being a savior. I just think the rivalry is the lesser of two evils that leads to better character development on Merrill's part. Swords, arrows and knives don't turn you into a demon though. You are absolutely right that anyone can be a monster or a murderer without a demon. But the issue is most blood mages and most mages in DA2 are douchebags. Douchebags that can also turn into a demon against their will (or even if they will it) and cause even more damage. Its an added layer of danger they bring. And I'm going to disagree. Merrill may not have been directly responsible for anyone's death, but her actions were a cause of what happened during act 3.
That's hardly a weird criticism. There are other RPGs where this sort of thing doesn't exist. In one instance, you can be involved in a long lasting relationship in the first Mass Effect game by just... ya know... getting to know them/talking to them. It makes the romances better written and feel more believable since you don't have to win their affections with quests. And its not a toxic idea especially since Merrill chose to involve you in the first place by asking for help. Yeah, Hawke doesn't belong to her culture nor are they her parent. Then Merrill shouldn't have involved you and should have done it on her own. If she wanted to keep her autonomy then don't involve a "shemlan" that might not understand her goals or has actively disagreed with it before hand. Especially one that has been adamant against what she is doing from the start like me. She gets to keep making reckless decisions and she doesn't lose her autonomy in the process. Nor have to deal with my "toxic" ideas. If the game gives me agency, then I'll do what I think is the better choice. Also, it is possible to disagree with Merrill and not be a jerk to her. You can choose friendly choices during conversations, but ultimately still have her as a rival. I don't get where you are getting this idea that you have to be those things to her. But that's the thing with blood magic. A few rotten apples is all it takes to ruin it for the rest. And the rotten apples in DA2 are some of the most rotten in the series. And that analogy is a bit flawed. Because you are completely glossing over all the things that led up to the stubbing of your toe. Almost like you are completely absolving Merrill of all her stupidity. As one of the clans people mention, there would be no demon to if it weren't for Merrill. She is not completely responsible for what happened, but she is still responsible in some capacity for summoning a dangerous demon in the first place. And because of her actions, she puts Hawke and his/her party members in danger when they had no involvement in what she was doing. And based on your writings, it is pretty clear you are pro mage and very vehement in that line of thinking. Its why you cannot fathom why someone would not give Merrill the "basic respect" you claim she deserves. Especially when you think that any line of thinking different than yours is toxic or disrespectful. For the record, I do not like templars or mages. I just don't like what Merrill is doing, especially since she is not even an optional party member. If the party member was a templar doing something similar, I wouldn't help him either.
@thomas brady Again, you're assuming. You don't HAVE to be any of those things to have her as a rival. I never did at least. And of course it does. As I mentioned, I do not like the templars or anyone who is a murdering jerk regardless of what weapon they use. But being able to turn into a demon makes everything worse. Its that simple. That's the thing. I never acknowledged no good could come from the "savior" arc. I have said that while its flawed, it is the better choice. I'll never say the enabler route is better. Sorry.
She is probably the cutest character in Dragon Age. The only thing that bothers me is that you're not snarky. She's so much cuter when you're snarky... Like
Hawke: *says some crazy ass sarcastic thing*
Merrill: wait, how could that ever happ- oh... right.... Sarcasm~
So cuuuuute
I don't care what anybody says, Merrill is off the charts on my cute level.
Cypher King you r so right
"Do you know who I am beyond that title?" I get it now, she meant Mythal.
Flemeth:You could never become a dragon
Mage Hawke:Bitch I might be
Underated comment
I love how much Isabela looks out for Merrill
"May the Dread Wolf never catch your scent" Are u sure Marethari? XDDD
Solas >:)
I don't know about you guys but i like the irish accent for dalish elves.
32roadsters 1 before in dragon age origins it was an american accent but I think the Irish accent suits the elves better
Merrill sounds welsh not irish
Mina A I didn't say anything about merrill I was talking about elves in general
That's a Welsh accent

she is the counterpart of Mass Effect Tali in Dragon Age; except Tali was a lot more aware, capable and responsible
The sneak peak of dragon age inquisition : o
22:16 "tasteful plant"
22:39 "tasteful candle"
I consider her the only "safe" romance in this second installement of the game
Alexandru Kantakouzenos von Carstein Zarovich
Yup....
At least you won't catch any.... stuff from her.
My point exactly! :D
Ironic, what with her being a blood mage and all.
Still safer then STD, from Isabella
21:32 "is it warm in here?...Ellllgarnannn" lol!
That eyes of Hawke during Merrill complimenting him, Jesus I died in laughter
Fenris is still my favorite, but Merrill comes in a close second.
Based Anders, cringing at things he doesn't like. While we were living in 2011, he was living in 2021.
is it warm in here hawke oh yeah
It's tricky and idk how I managed it, but I did it once. I lied about how the keeper died and kept from killing her clan, so only the keeper died
I helped her because I didn't want her relying on Blood Magic and demons to accomplish her goal.
Oh I love all the stuff about the clan objecting to her dating a human. I don't remember getting this with a female Hawke? She said some really sad and quite uncomfortable things about not being as beautiful as fem!Hawke instead. This is so much better!
28:04 aaaaand Merrill is standing right there.
11:40 the mirror is in dragonage origins the dalish elf origin
This damn egg has just been promoted to CAPTAIN OBVIOUS.
She reminds me of Tali. But why..?
Her cuteness and her personality somehow
@@historiousedward4145 they're both probably around the 18-20 and nerds pretty much
she resemble Liara from ME...
*Enchantment* :>
Please more merrill
But why didn't you tell them she was possessed ?
they would have still attacked
Homing Missile Booooo
If you told them that,Dalish elf will attack you
I love Merrill 😍
SCREEE I SHIP THIS IS COOTE

Pol doesn't have a vallaslin. Am I the only who noticed that?
well he only joined about a couple years ago. It takes an elf that is raised in the clan almost a decade to earn it
what is a capture card are you using
Sweet girl! xD
ur hawke looks like a right gay
God, I really fucking hate Fenris.
can u tell me your ps3 username?
is this a mod
yourapple jack No
