Leaf Filter Gutter Guards 7 years old (removed for new shingles)

  • We have to remove the Leaf Filter gutter guards for a new roof installation.
The contractor puts on new drip edge and the crew will not mess with the gutter protection, that and I would rather remove them myself.
Will they last another 7 years? Time will tell.
Thanks for watching and work safe!

What is rarely mentioned is that *pitch* is what makes the micromesh filters work-they *must* be at the same pitch as the roof. Debris will get blown off the filters by the wind. Laying them flat creates a shelf that collects seeds and leaves, and blocks the gutter.

My 2 Cents. If I have to get up on a ladder and brush off the leaf guards, I might as well just clean out the gutters and not get the leaf guard.

      You are thinking right too!
Just get the big sponge fit filter that is 3 foot long and fit them at the end over the downspout, nothing will get through.

I know they're expensive but they seem to do what you want and last well.
We have them but ours aren't sealed at the ends, I think that would be good to do. Since all of our downspouts run to a cystern we need to keep all the debris out. I have been looking for pictures to compare our install to others, especially the outward corners.
Thanks for your video it was well done and good to see.

I sub for them running gutters and then also doing filter and you're right the installer shouldn't of used that much silicone for the end caps, on a miter box sure ! but over kill for the end caps also there's a groove in the lip that supposed to go under you're drip edge..he should of cut the strip the whole way down the filter then he wouldn't of had to force the filter into you gutter.

I have two big maple trees next to my house, and was tired of the leaves in the gutters. I contacted leaf Guard. On the day the guy came out for my estimate he was over an hour late without giving me a call. When he did show up he wanted to give me a pitch on why I need gutters, you could see my existing gutters were shot, I needed gutters no matter what. I tried to tell him that, and to cut to the chase and tell me about their product. The jerk gave me attitude and I didn't even get an estimate. I then contacted Leaf Filter the sales guy was punctual and very professional. He showed me the difference between Leaf Guard and Leaf Filter, he explained that with Leaf Guard you need to wax the leading edge every year or they don't work right, the whole purpose is not to have to go up on a ladder every year so why bother. Another thing was that Leaf Guard is NOT standard size, Leaf filter is. He sold me on the Leaf Filter, when I did order, I ordered the six inch wide gutters rather than the four inch with downspouts on each corner. This was three years ago. Now I'm not stupid I probably should go up and check to see if the screens might need to be flushed from small particles. So far I am very pleased with them.

How does it do with heavy rain fall? Does it run over? Or does even heavy rain flow straight through the wire mesh?
I would think it would do fine with low or light rain, but anything over a certain amount it won't have time to make it through before running over the edge...

    • @pmtips4482
      @pmtips4482  ปีที่แล้ว +1

On the traditional asphalt shingles, it will never over run.
On the metal roofs, even with larger mesh, it will over run but only in a heavy down pour.

Garbage stuff. We installed for gutter and leaf filter for them in NC. For Mike Slimac out of Huntersville NC. Over a 5/12 pitch roof and the water just cascades over in moderate rain. They’re just out to make money out the ass. We did a house that had 76 ft of leaf filter. They charged the customer $3700. That’s over $48 a foot. And pay their installers $1 a foot for one story house. Stay away from them.
