  • This video explains how some niche mechanics in Limbus Company work. It's a short and simple video with no frills - just getting the info out there. Speed ties, ego resources, offsetting, "combat start" defense skill effects, and corrosion niche mechanics are explained.

    Overclocking putting you into a sin debt is intentional
    There are two types of overclocking: "safe" overclocking when you have sufficient resources, that will prevent corrosion from attacking your allies and "not safe" when you don’t have enough resources and the skill will remain indiscriminate

    9:18 the answer is frankly simple, anything with [combat start] means they activate the second you enter the combat phase, no strings attached; any skill that needs a coin to be rolled are usually under [on use]. Think of it as sort of a passive you can manually activate with said skill for that turn which may have lasting effects like T Corp Don's "borrowed time" state

    One of the funny things about all of the PM games is that mechanics are so badly explained that trying to navigate all of the systems becomes a skill in on itself. It's pretty fun trying to crack how the systems work, doing experiments and observing results like a scientist.

      Targeting in Human mission still not explained, so people are super confuse by it

    An important consideration for the defense skill intricacies is that the defense skill of an enemy will activate automatically at some point if not "clashed" or offset. If an enemy has fast rolls and targets a low speed sinner, however, you can purposefully clash it with the low speed sinner to push back its activation until that sinner attacks. When I'm using Regret Faust, for example, I'd rather hit a defense skill with, say, "[On Use] Gain 5 protection" with her S1 if she's second to last or last to go to get tremor count than offset and get nothing if both will deal effectively 0 damage.
    Yeah it's niche but it comes up enough for me to consistently consider it.

      I learned this the very hard way in the new intervallo pack at MD. I was taking some difficult trials to challenge myself cuz I thought the boss won't be that bad. I was dead wrong. At the unbreakable coin phase, I made the boss clash on my slowest sinner, and thankfully I could finally finish him with only 2 of my sinners dying

    Some extra lil notes from my own experience and testing
    Clashable defense skills do use their own speed for initiative, and clashable counters can also offset and still react to being hit like a regular counter
    The best use case for offsetting enemy defense skills is denying On Use effects. Combat start effects activate no matter what but on use effects only activate when the skill is brought into use mid combat, which offsetting prevents. Acquiring sin affinities is an On Use event which is why u get nothing if a skill is offset or a sinner staggers before using their regular skills
    Offsetting is super underutilized from what ive seen and it can make some tough bosses much easier like denying nelly her extra speed dice or preventing hohenheim from gaining poise from his guards
    Very cool video btw! I alwaystruggle identifying initiative in speed ties but the concise info tip is gonna really help out

    Nice stuff, glad to see people making more content like this.
    Some small little things for some of the points:
    Think of speed not an integer value, but as a floating point number with 3 decimal places. Basically 6 speed isn't actually 6 speed it's 6.xyz, so it could be 6.000 or 6.999, the game just displays the floored integer value, but internally that is what determines the order, eg 6.999 speed goes before 6.000 speed, despite both saying 6 speed. The concise mode definitely helps a ton with that since before that you'd just have to guess (pain for rr1 solos)
    In addition, it might be obvious from anecdotal experience, but to redirect an attack you need to have a higher integer speed value: Eg 6.5 speed cannot redirect 6.4 speed despite being faster, but 7.000 can redirect 6.999
    Then one small thing for support passives and passives: basically the game checks the conditions and targets as soon as combat starts, and then that cannot be altered for that turn, which may or may not be the most useful information. Eg, Middle Meur passive is targeting ahab ishmael since everyone is 45 sp and she is first deployment slot, once combat starts she is the target for that support passive the entire turn regardless of what anyone elses sp changes to. Or if she wasn't the target, she wouldn't heal even if she becomes the least sp during the turn since the game already decided to target another sinner.
    The same applies for ego resources, as long as you have enough resources during the turn, passives will activate and stay activated no matter what, even if you were to lose the required amounts mid combat (really only possible during MFE fight). But more importantly You can't activate passives mid turn if you gained the required resources. They're on or off as soon as you press start
    Wall of text jumpscare, but just a few extra small details people might find value from!

    • @brad_soup
      @brad_soup 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The paragraph about decimal speeds feels needlessly complicating? Isn't it just saying "characters who roll the same speed (integer) value will move in a random order" with extra steps? It's neat trivia I guess if that's how the game calculates it internally, but not actually any more useful of an explanation?

    • @fedrick1connery607
      @fedrick1connery607  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      thanks for the write up - that way of looking at speed makes sense. I never knew that passives couldn't activate mid-turn actually.

    just gonna say some things that I personally picked up when playing, from my understanding you gain an ego resource at the same time as the on use conditional, which is JUST BEFORE the skill shows up, even before a coin gets flipped
    this can be seen when fighting shock centipede if you kill him from doing a clash and having him die from the on use self-charge loss, you still gain the resource from the skill you were going to clash with despite your skill not even showing up for a frame
    additionally, with Combat Start, that triggers when you hit the button to start the combat phase, regardless of when the skill will be used as all that matters is that the skill is in play, which is why zwei ishmael still gains her defensive stance, and why if an enemy uses a defense skill that something like gains protection on combat start, the protection is gained at the start of the combat phase regardless of whether or not the skill was offset
    also you probably should have mentioned that if overclocking puts you into debt IT CAN STILL TARGET TEAMMATES, indicated by the overclock being red instead of orange

    • @fedrick1connery607
      @fedrick1connery607  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Your explanation makes sense. I agree it probably lines up with the on use conditional - that would explain those edge situations where an enemy explodes before you can even flip a coin. Other commenters have mentioned overclock too - that was my bad for failing to explain it right.

    Small corrections(mostly just looking from slides and not in detail explaination)
    1.3 I think it would make it easier to understand if you said something like if X Sinner got 3 speed and Y Sinner got 2 speed who is also clashing against enemy who got 6 speed, the Y sinner will go first. At least if I understood this right
    1.4. Clashable defense are an exception
    2.1. It's more like it's tied to using a skill. Think of it like every skill with a sin affinity has a hidden [On Use] effect that gives a corresponding sin affinity
    4.1. Combat Start is not tied to defense skills. Combat start happens once you finish preparing up skills and start the combat
    5.1. A literal ingame mechanic. Overclock lets you use corrosions without them being indiscriminate(attacks everyone including allies), at the cost of needing 1.5x resources. But if you don't have enough to overclock, but still have enough to use normal one, you still can do overclock but the ego corrosion skill still is indiscriminate.
    It's also shown by the icon of overclock being red and even saying warning

    i remember when they added the ability to overclock they said if you could use the base ego you could overclock with not enough ego resources just that it would keep the [indiscriminate] line
    overclocking with the sins needed and adequate sanity will remove the [indiscriminate] part of the corrosion
    there is also much more funny niche things i want to bring to you:
    -you can manipulate attack weight as extra attack weight prioritizes EMPTY/UNTARGETED slots
    -you canNOT get staggered when taking shield damage even when below a stagger threshold
    -you are able to dictate the order of skills you use for skills of the same speed attacking targets of the same speed in the order you drag them in
    -example: w don and w ryoshu are at 5 speed attacking a staggered enemy at 4 speed. if you drag ryoshus skill to the enemy first and then dons onto the skill slot of the enemy, ryoshu will attack first even if she comes AFTER don in the chain. this is for SAME speed, HIGHER speeds will take priority (idk test a little i think i remember a time where they didnt.)
    -ppl like to say that the formula for offense and defense level down damage is hard but its pretty simple. take the difference and divide the difference by itself plus 25. just memorize this formula with a calculator to instantly know the value of the damage increase or reduction.
    -example: you are attacking with 51 offense level to the enemy 50 defense level. the difference is 1, so the amount of change in damage is equal to 1/26. because it is 1 difference divided by 1 + 25. same for 3 difference, the change will come out to 3/28, because it is 3 divided by 3 + 25. enter these into a calculator for yourself to find the end modifier. depending which of the offense or defense level is higher, you will know if the change is either an increase or a decrease in damage. use this as a handy method to accurately calculate any offense to defense level difference.
    -defense skills gain final power by the difference, this includes counter skills (not clashable counters as that uses offense level not defence). im also pretty sure counter skills are affected by defense level up/down. because defense level up comes more abundantly than offense level up, maybe someone can use that to their advantage?
    -certain effects make units unable to gain new slots. though it only happened once, i was running a trio team, and i got to fight fey lantern. when my last unit was about to gain the 6th skill slot for the fight, they got lured, giving another unit the 6th slot. this resulted in a unit with 3 slots, a unit with two slots and a unit with one in the same fight. i even have a photo of it saved. i wonder if this is the same with stagger but probably not i dont remember it happening with it.
    i also want you to look into somethings ive been thinking about
    1. what is the trigger that makes the skills go all at once in chain battles? i heard skills with cinematics trigger individual clashing rather than mass clashing or is it s3's? anyways this can be used to make md faster.
    2. when in a clash and losing coins but still going through, which coins do you lose? when losing coins and going through with the attack, ive seen skills use their first coins and their last coins without consistency, i want to know more about this. does it lose coins I > V first or V > I basically
    thats all i can think of just for now, could even be more, theres alot in this game but yeah

    • @titadogelo5090
      @titadogelo5090 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      1) S3’s and EGOs will stop all other clashes. Skills with attack weight can stop skills that would hit extra targets. For example, if there’s 3 enemies and your first skill in the turn is Wild Hunt’s S2 with max attack weight, no other skills will be used until WH’s S2 finishes (I’m not 100% sure about this but it seems to be consistent, might have other conditions I’m unaware of)
      2) Clashing always destroys coins from first to last. The animation that plays will depend on each ID. This means that, for a 2-coin skill, if you lose one of its coins, the first coin will always be the one that breaks and the second coin will be used even if the animation is of the first coin
      Take this with a grain of salt, I’m a random person on the internet not a Limbus dev lol

    • @omegajay1914
      @omegajay1914 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      just gonna talk about the losing coins part, I have no clue what handles the animations for the coins, but from looking at the effects it seems to lose the first coins first, so like if you lose 2 coins with W Don's skill 2, you don't gain the charge on hit from the first two coins, but you can inflict the fragile on heads hit

    On the topic of corrosion, going negative resources with overclock will make it able to hit allies. Or more correctly using overclock with enough ego res will remove a trait that make corrosion ego target allies. I never studied overclock much myself because is hella expensive which make it useful only on very niche situations. The only time I took a glance on overclocking was when they were introduced. I don't know if there is more nuances to it than what I already know.

    Very great video, but there are still some more unwritten rules that people should know about that could be a video. Like how skills with different coin types kinda rock, paper, scissors each other.
    1. Single coin skills can pierce evades
    2.Usually never tie the clash value of negative coin skills, especially if they have multiple coins.
    3.Multi coin skills can win against high value low coin amount skills if they roll higher than the minimum value.
    4.Speed and skill rarity affect combat order. E.G.O>Skill 3> Skill 1&2, (I also don't fully know how this works because speed & attack weight makes this weird.)
    I might have forgotten some but, some of the smaller details of combat mechanics can be completely skipped by some people, or they just don't know it.
    Edit:
    5. Clash able counters also trigger even when offsetting, clash able guards also might I just haven't tested it manually yet.

    5:50 I might be wrong on this but im fairly certain you generate ego resources the moment the coin is queued/drafted/pending for combat. Meaning you don’t have to have your sinner roll a coin to get the resource. you already got the resource upon initiating combat with your drafted coins. you mentioned how ego resources are specifically created when a coin is flipped, if this different from the skill "appearing" but not visually flipping any coin? Mainly in the scenario where a sinner clashes with an enemy that dies at the start of the clash before either side flips any coins. I'm pretty sure On Use effects trigger when this happens but I haven't paid attention to if ego resources were generated. I'd kinda assumed that the On Use happened at the same time as resource gen so if not huh

    I dont think concise is lying at your 2nd point, it looked like its telling the order of the sinners' speed as in the dashboard. Also I'm almost sure theres some kind of skill priority on the game, where s3s and egos will clash before and some times even interrupt the animation of other skills to play theirs.

    You can offset two defensive skills with one defensive skill as long as they are targeted the same skill slot

  • @SF3L
    @SF3L 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Not sure if this was just a bug or a genuine caveat for a speed tie with defence skills, but when I did an MD solo run against the envy pecatulums in floor 5, whenever there was a speed tie and I aim an evade towards the unit concise mode says will go first, the turn order gets adjusted and the first unit will now go last out of all the units in the speed tie
    Example: Heathcliff, Ryoshu, and Gregor all roll a 6 on speed and concise mode says they go in the listed order, if I aim an evade at Heathcliff, the new turn order will be Ryoshu, Gregor, *then* Heathcliff.
    Haven’t tested it much yet but it’s just something weird that I noticed while doing the run
    Also for 9:16 I wouldn’t really say it’s that weird cause as the conditional says, it’s on “combat start” not “on use” like most defence skills would have, so you don’t need to have the skill “trigger,” just have it “active” if that explanation made any sense
    Also adding onto weird mechanics with offsetting, you can offset with a clashable defence skill but still use it if a different skill slot is targeting the sinner, works with both clashable guards and counters

    I do have a question, that I've been wondering - When a sinner forcefully corrodes, how is the EGO to be used chosen?
    I played some solo MD runs or solo Thread Luxcavation before and sometimes the sinner that I use does get corroded. But they always use the same EGO, but it's not always the highest tier one (I recently remember Sinclair corroding into Hex Nail despite also having access to Lantern, which is a tier higher)
    And also, when you play solo, you have access to multiple slots after a few turns, but I wonder how is it decided that some slots will have a Corrosion, while others will have the "unable to act" thing
    I would like to know this stuff, please

    • @daan_long
      @daan_long 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      most of those are random, and when a sinner corrode, at least 1 slot will have corrosion ego, and the corrosion is based on the last used ego(not base ego), if not then it select randomly

    • @fedrick1connery607
      @fedrick1connery607  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I believe daan_long's answer is correct. It uses the last E.G.O. used. If you haven't used an E.G.O. yet it will randomly select one. The sinner's base E.G.O. do not have corrosions, so they are ignored.

    Only difference between "Max" and "Mid" is just the status effect info afaik, so there isn't really much of a reason to use it cuz Mid is just a better ui, at least for me.
    Counter activates upon the first incoming attack regardless of your targeting, not sure about clashable counter tho, it might not activate if it's already clashing because it's basically just a skill 4 if you clash with it.
    Also, another niche is that ShiMael S2 gets 4 coins in clash because her conditional activate [On Use] while KK hong lu doesn't cuz it's [Before Attack]. Can't really think of any weird niche interaction on the spot, but undoubtedly there are like these.

    You didn't mention attack weight management (skills with more than 1 atk weight will select their sub-targets based on if they aren't targeted by other skills). For example, if there are enemy A, enemy B and enemy C. If you just use EGO (atk weight 2) on enemy A, it will target enemies A and B. BUT if you first chain another sinner's skill into enemy B, then use EGO on enemy A, then this EGO wil target enemies A and C.
    So it prioritizes sub-targets that are not being attacked already.
    And if you then remove the other sinner's arrow from enemy B, EGO will still target enemies A and C. This works on any atk weight and lets you choose the specific targets for EGOs. I don't really know how this affects skills that gain attack weight at combat start tho.

    When an EGO is forcibly executed, does it consume EGO resources? Two examples of this are 1) when a sinner corrodes and uses the EGO as a corrosion 2) When the Rusty Commemorative Coin EGO Gift activates the first one-coin skill used in the turn for a second time. If the forced execution does consume resources, then can we go into negative resources from it? Sometimes corroded Sinners will use one EGO skill even with 2 slots on the dashboard. I wonder if that's random chance or if it's relrelated to resources owned.

    • @BigGarfFan
      @BigGarfFan 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      The last point in your video said that EGO corrosion will use EGO resources and put the resources into the negatives. I missed that the first go. Probably the Rusty Commemorative Coin will also consume resources twice, then. Maybe even going negative. When I play Mirror Dungeon, I save most of my EGO resources until the fifth floor in case I have a lot of trouble winning clashes due to mounting trials and so I haven't noticed if it goes negative, yet.

    • @fedrick1connery607
      @fedrick1connery607  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      1) Yes, if a sinner corrodes and uses E.G.O. it will consume E.G.O. resources.
      2) Rusty Commemorative Coin does not consume E.G.O. resources; it "reuses" the E.G.O. rather than cast it again as a separate skill.
      3) Yes, if a sinner corrodes and uses E.G.O. you will go into negative. The best example is a solo run - I was doing a solo run with Sunshower Heathcliff and corroded, being forced to use King in Binds. It activated like 5 times and I went to like negative 20 envy lol

    • @Demonsoul1373
      @Demonsoul1373 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      On the subject of how many EGO Skills a Corroded Sinner uses, it is semi-random. A Corroded Sinner is guaranteed at least 1 EGO Skill across their Skill Slots, and then each additional Skill Slot has a 50% chance of generating an EGO Skill.

    Hi, thanks for the very informative video, I just have a few questions:
    1. Will combat start effects on enemy defense skills still activate even if offset?
    2. What about on use effects?

    • @fedrick1connery607
      @fedrick1connery607  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      1) Yes, combat start enemy defense skills will still activate if offset. The rules for them work the same as for the sinner. For example, a lot of enemies have a "phase change" turn where they only use defense skills and each one gives like 10 protection up. You can't just offset these and skip the phase change.
      2) On use effects only activate when the skill is used - so immediately before flipping a coin.

  • @vicrusty9534
    @vicrusty9534 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    With how offsetting works, can you explain how if there is an indiscriminate ego corrosion happening towards the sinners, if there is a way to use defense skills against them? Counters work as regular but others appear not to, maybe it’s a speed thing. But if multiple defensive skills are targeting one single slot of an enemy aoe they all get used, very confusing

      if you want the gist of aoe manipul. Extra attack weight prefers not target slots already targetted by another skill.
      So you first slot a skill on a target you dont want to hit then put the aoe skill main target, it should show that the extra targets arent the first slot (the one already targetted by another skill) unless there is no other eligible slots (too much attack weight or other slots are all targetted).
      Note: If you put the aoe first then the skills to manipulate the targetting it will still work even though it wont show; and if you remove the skill used to manipulate it will revert to the original state; also Gained Attack Weight wont show on preview (ex. Eletric Dreaming Don) and non-ego skill also can be manipulated (ex. dawnclair s2, wild hunt s2).
      A great enemy to see this in practive is the Skin Prophet, put an aoe ego an see its targetting, it most likely will target the body and some candles. Now put some skills on the candles or the body and see it change (I mean put in that exact slot because it has lots of slots on main body). To verify just put the ego on the same slot again (eg. untarget and target again)

      IIRC AoE EGO targetting prioritizes untargeted skill slots, so if you want to manipulate what the AoE targets, first slot skills from your other sinners into the enemy slots you DON'T want to target and for last slot in the AoE EGO and it will first target everything that isnt targeted yet, after you do this you can reasign the other sinner's skills and the AoE will keep the original targeting

    Every 3 Offence Level Difference when clashing is 1 Clash Power
