great reels, i used the early versions of these in my early carp days. That line is for baitcasters though, way too thick of a wire for spinning reels. Instead of getting a bigger reel i recommend putting a thinner line, 0.35mm will be about perfect and all u need.
12lb line has me worried of breakage from bigger fish and even zebra mussels. It's one reason why I haven't considered braid yet. I may end up breaking down and doing one of the two.
I think we go way overboard with the ocean fishing rods for catfish.Dont get me wrong i have a whole closet full of giant rods, but it seems to take alot of fun out of it.I find myself going with the lighter gear lately.I have landed many trophy fish on light gear. But when that 100 lber does finally bite i hope he bites the big cat fever rods.
This rod is really lightweight too. I am considering switching to them. It reminds me of the striped bass rods other companies have made so it could be a double duty rod. There is a casting version of this 8 footer too. The only issue is they are 8 foot. Is that to much for a boat? I know they are good for planar boards when they are longer!
I second the 30# braid. Spool some Ande braid on there and a shock leader the length of the rod plus a few turns around the spool of that 30# Ande monster. My only concern would be is what’s the drag on that reel?
The drag is 22 pounds. The reels I am thinking of moving to are 26 pounds. I have used braid in the past. Our waterways are infested with zebra mussels and they cut braid quicker than anything else. I've lost a few fish because of them. I have also been thinking about using these with planar boards on my boat. They remind me of striped bass rods some other manufacturers have made so they could be a double duty rod. My current planar boards can't attach to braid.
Good combo, It sure would make it fun. we use 7 footers all the time, braid would be much better. Big Dia mono equals less time to thow, that braid the ticket
I had 6 of the avengers at one time have caught many big fish on them. I now use penn squalls and love them but yes avengers very good reel for the price.
I got my ugly stick UGLY CAT rod for $17 casting rod and the Ozark trail 5000 spinning combo for $20 very happy with both of them on catfish but I haven't got a 30 lbs fish yet but I eat them so the 5 lbs or smaller ones is great for me. Nice stuff do like the clearance sale stuff.
I got one for $10 once and exclusively used it in a kayak catching quite a few fish too. If you can only find new retail then $54 isn't that bad. Which is what my local tackle shop is selling them for!

Looks like a great combo to me Billy. I have the same reel on a whisper seeker med. rod for carp and it works great. Thanks for the video
I like the rod and reel but I think that 30 lb mono is to much for it... just my opinion 😊
Nice set-up. I use the Shimano bait runner spinning reel on a medium Hog Seeker rod, and it works great.
I have Okuma 6000 bait runner on all my spinning rods. love them, never had any issues with them. And yes, I’ve caught gar with them as well!

Those are great reels for the money!! I have had a pair for at least 8 years. Use them in salt water for sharks, as well as cats here at home…….
Awesome!
I like the avenger reels. Got a couple myself!

That's a good economic outfit. But, with that size reel, you need to run 30 lb braid. It will cast a country mile !
Yes I agree. I am still going to get bigger reels. With the zebra mussels around here braid is not a good idea. Thanks.
Have to go braid. Use the spook it will keep your main line up out of the rocks/////bill
30lb braid equals 6 lb mono. A county mile you will throw
I like the color
