We were still in rehearsal season and were up at -- I think -- Sunnyvale HS for a camp. We'd been playing in the brass arc for maybe an hour, working one the opener (Bacchinalia...1984 show)and then were given a break. After putting my sop down, I turned and saw a community marching band looking at us in awe...that was the first time I had an inkling of what it meant to be a Blue Devil....and it onl intensified as the year went on.
I honestly don't get how people can try to pull that "i don't understand blue devils shows" crap when they literally have in depth explanations on TH-cam every single year 😩
But the question is, how many people do you know will go watch the TH-cam video about it. Like, no. The point of a show is to tell a story. And it should be easy for a normal bystander to put the pieces together and find out what happens
SWfan100 I disagree. If a show is so simple that I leave with no questions after the first watch then I think that's a unimpressive simple show because I'm gonna be watching it all summer. If some random person walked by a Blue Devils rehearsal and had knowledge of the painting Nighthawks they would definitely get somewhat an idea of the story. The fact of the matter is every corps has extensive explanation of their shows somewhere even if they're extremely simple or don't have a story and a lot of corps now have video series but people just love to single out the Blue Devils. If everyone kept their shows within the scope of what a random person could walk by and understand there would be the same 12 show ideas every year.
