No problem, said the barman, if you don't mind sitting at the bar. I didn't, so I did. Had a fabulous Irish Stew while chatting with the incredibly friendly bar staff. Great memories. We don't want you to go! When Ireland became a republic, they wanted the harp for the national emblem. They made a deal with Guinness, Guinness said the harp could be used as long as it was turned the other way around. So if you look at the harp as national emblem on govt buildings etc, the harp faces opposite the Guinness harp. I could tell you a lot about Darkey Kelly as well, very dark history! Next time you are here Gary, go to Johnny Foxes and the Blue light in the Dublin mountains, fab places.
Actually, there was a harp in the Irish flag between 1801 and 1922, but I accept that it was a different design. I believe the harp had the head of a woman.

*A wonderful, memorable and meaningful conclusion to this trip to Ireland 🇮🇪👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻* Delicious food that brought some nice reflections. It looked so good
looks a nice place Gary , i thought the portion of stew looked a little small and bulked out with mash spud . Deasert looked great . i would like that . value for money was ok too . 8 out of 10
My favourite food is a hearty stew mash and bread soda or otherwise. That stew looked delicious and a very good portion. The pudding was novel in the Guinness glass for presentation. Top marks there 10. I bet you are sad to leave Dublin but it has showcased the food on offer there very well. The prices for Dublin have been very reasonable too. All in All a very successful enjoyable visit.
Unfortunately I'm no longer able to travel but if I could I'd be over to Dublin next weekend for a meal at Darkey Kelly's; that looked absolutely divine! Great video again Gary, looking forward to the rest of your Irish adventures.
Wow that looked amazing Gary. Lovely sentiment too, thank you sharing your family thoughts on the dish. Tales of your Dads cooking are really heartwarming, he would have loved a bowl of this delightful stew too. All the best to you mate

Hi Gary Very good finish to your visit to the lovely city of Dublin. I think 8/10 for that one. The Irish stew looked warm and comforting washed down with a lovely pint of Guinness. I also really liked the presentation of the pudding which was very unusual. It also looked scrummy. I would have liked to see a biscuit with it as I always think mouse needs a little bit of context with it. Good looking pub too. As usual an excellent video mate
Do you know what Gary?...you are so right when you said the stew brought back memories of your mum. Same here. Days cooking, filling the house with delicious aromas & then when you ate it you wouldn't want it to end it was so yummy. Both my mum & my nan were such good cooks. I haven't inherited their skills!! Lost my mum when I was only 31 but the memories of her cooking stay with me every time I smell a stew cooking. Wish I could turn back that clock. The Irish are so welcoming. Last time I was in Tipperary the owner baked me a soda bread to take home with me as a surprise! So glad you enjoyed your trip x J x

A bit late to the party, last week I decided it would be a really good idea to slosh coffee all over my laptop. Waited in vain for it to rise phoenix-like from the ashes, no joy, so I am now the embarrassed owner of a posh new laptop. That stew - when you dug the buttered soda bread into it' I nearly died. That dessert is practically illegal. Love your enthusiasm, and your enjoyment. Lots of love. x
I would give a 10 for your meal, Gary. I spent 3 weeks touring SW Ireland with my late wife and dog, in 1996. The hospitality, food, and music in the pubs en route was fantastic. One of my best trips ever!

Hi Gary, that meal looked absolutely amazing! A new place on my list to visit! Not a huge fan of Guinness but from your description and review, I think I would love it. The dessert looked just out of this world, just up my alley! I would give it a 10 from your description and review. Another fantastic review in the bag, mate, keeping up with the fabulous work you're doing! Have a wonderful rest of your day and take care. I'll be in touch soon, buddy!😊
Thank you ever so much Frank, have a lovely week and hope you are enjoying the better weather
*A wonderful, memorable and meaningful conclusion to this trip to Ireland 🇮🇪👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻*
Delicious food that brought some nice reflections. It looked so good
Many thanks as always Glenda
@@GaryEats 👍☺️☺️
Now, that looks like some proper grub Gary. Real food, with real flavour. I would happily dig into that food my friend. Thanks for the superb video.
Thank you for watching and commenting
looks a nice place Gary , i thought the portion of stew looked a little small and bulked out with mash spud . Deasert looked great . i would like that . value for money was ok too . 8 out of 10
Thanks Roy and fair score 👍
My favourite food is a hearty stew mash and bread soda or otherwise. That stew looked delicious and a very good portion. The pudding was novel in the Guinness glass for presentation. Top marks there 10. I bet you are sad to leave Dublin but it has showcased the food on offer there very well. The prices for Dublin have been very reasonable too. All in All a very successful enjoyable visit.
Oh how superb is that, fantastic!!
Unfortunately I'm no longer able to travel but if I could I'd be over to Dublin next weekend for a meal at Darkey Kelly's; that looked absolutely divine! Great video again Gary, looking forward to the rest of your Irish adventures.
Thank you ever so much and I'm sorry to hear you cannot travel anymore
Wow that looked amazing Gary. Lovely sentiment too, thank you sharing your family thoughts on the dish. Tales of your Dads cooking are really heartwarming, he would have loved a bowl of this delightful stew too. All the best to you mate
Thank you so very much this brought back some lovely memories
As always, Let’s give it a go👍
Thank you so much
You know you have done a spectacular job as a chef when you bring a guy to tears when he eats your food and is reminded of his parents…
A very good point thank you
Never thought I'd see Gary review a brothel😂
Wonder if he had any sides??
We don't wanna see 👀 *those* Beef Curtains 😩
Oh my!! Food porn 😂😂😂
Let's give her a go!
I knew I'd get comments like this lol
Nearly at 100k Gary ….congratulations, thoroughly well deserved…a real feel good vlogger..keep up the great work .👏👏
Thank you very kind and appreciated
Oh my gosh fantastic.i am literally drooling.just perfect food.well cooked well presented. fabulous!! Thank you Gary! Positivity peace and love ♥️
The same to you too
Outstanding Video As Usual
Glad you enjoyed it John
Looked a really hearty meal. I am old fashioned, I like my meal on a plate.
It's an 8.5 for me. I love a nice stew. 😁
😋 very hearty Andrew, something a bit different for a change
Stew works better in a bowl and a spoon! Slainte.
Not to be pedantic, but colcannon has cabbage in it as well as spring onion. Mash with spring onions is champ. Love the channel!
Thanks
No calcanon has kale ( curly), in it. Cabbage in mash is , bubble and squeak !
My mum came from Galway and this reminded me so much of her stews and with the soda bread.
My mouth was watering at that dessert. Look forward to to when you’re back in Ireland
Galway lovely city looking forward to doing a few videos there take care
This is one of my favourites Gary! I could almost taste that stew. And seeing you enjoy it was a real pleasure.
Thank you Christopher you could tell I enjoyed this one 👌💯
Get the second Dublin trip booked already😅
Lol going elsewhere in Ireland soon!
@@GaryEats Go West young man! My County (Clare), Kerry, Galway and Mayo boast some excellent eateries! Enjoy, and I hope the weather stays fine for you!
Hi gary .great review as always
Thanks for watching my friend
Gary - my parents are over on the West Coast in County Clare. Try to get over to the Coast Road and the Cliffs of Moher. The cliffs are stunning!!!!!
That’s where my Irish family is from too. As you say a beautiful part of the world and the cliffs and the coastal road drives are stunning!
I will do when I next go over
The cliff walks in Kilkee beat the Cliffs of Moher hands down. Free, fewer people & a great chipper in the town.
Love your videos - addicted to yours and Steve Marsh the travel vlogger - you are both really nice, grounding, down to earth, no drama, and great to watch. Best screentime. However awful everything else is, these videos are great. You are becoming a legend of no nonsense food reviews.
That’s so kind to say thank you very much
Thank you for the recommendation Gary,
its going on the list, it looked great.
It’s definitely worth a visit Mark
That’s criminal having beef stew. Lamb stew all the way Gary. And they’re definitely should be dumplings with stew. 🤯100%
I understand Alex but that was what was available….good luck tonight 🏴🏴
@@GaryEats yeah a good hearty meals are always the best. And yeah we need it pal 😂🏴
You sound like my Dad 😂 He was Scottish and My Mum is Irish!! Dumplings, Lamb and Beef 🤦

Not the amber nectar, the black stuff.
Always said it since my early pub days for some reason, the black stuff indeed
Never heard Guinness described as “Amber Nectar” before Gary….great review, as usual 😊👍
Amber nectar was used in the Fosters lager commercials if I remember correctly?
Thank you Garry, just a phrase I sometimes use for all beers lol
It's the black stuff
Really enjoying the channel, Gary. It’s the best restaurant reviews I’ve seen. Great mix of detail, history and humour. The Dublin reviews have made me a little homesick! Thanks
That is very kind to say thank you very much, Ronan
Desert looked beautiful lovely presentation. Stew looked gorgeous
All round really good food 💯💯🇮🇪
it ain't amber
It is delicious though
It's Irish Amber which you always find at the end of 🌈 rainbows!
Amber nectar? Looks black to me.
In todays day and age its not acceptable to call a pint of the black stuff a pint of the black stuff despite it being a pint of the black stuff 😂
Yes for some reason I refer to all beers like that
Amber nectar was the Fosters ads.🤮
Guinness in Ireland and Northern Ireland is totally different from the mainland. Far superior in the Irish pubs. They know how to keep the stuff. 👏👏👏👏
Very very nice
Ireland is the mainland
its down to the water from the wicklow mountain
@@seanshattersI thought it was just me 😂
Wtf did I just read 😂😂😂
Late in as just popped up . Such lovely a video, brings back lovely memories with Irish based family. Now most sadly passed , thanks Gary and hope your channel continues to grow Carmel x
I really enjoyed this one as it brought back some wonderful memories, Carmel x
@@GaryEats blessed to have Irish and those memories in us X
That stew looked delicious, I make a never- ending stew where I just keep adding for a maximum of 5 days,on the last day I bake bread and finish it with love. Thank you Gary. Greetings from Cyprus. 👍👍🤗🤗🍽🍽
That is definitely the best way to do a stew 🌹
Looks like you were well treated in Dublin, hope you can get around the rest of Ireland and show us some more hidden gems! Great channel.
I will be going all around Ireland
Hi Gary
Very good finish to your visit to the lovely city of Dublin.
Thank you very much Tony
Bless you gary being emotional shows what a kind fab bloke you are .May I sincerely wish you all the happiness going forward
Thank you so very much Dave
Thank you for sending that lovely comment Jude, really nice to read and my best wishes to you
@@GaryEats I actually had an aunty Darky!!!!! My nan's best friend. Goodness knows why they called her that as she was as blond as can be!!! Ha ha!! x J x
Every bit of that stew, mashed potatoes and gravy looked PERFECT. And yes mopping the last bits up, just delicious. Thank you for taking us along.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for your Dublin ventures Gary. Really enjoyed them. Finishing off with Guinness Irish stew, that mousse and a pint superb. Glad it catalysed those memories for you. The south, west and north of Ireland sound fantastic - looking forward to them. Galway looking out to the ancient lands no longer there is right up there as travelling priorities for me.
It’s on the list and I can’t wait to return 🇮🇪🇮🇪
What a great looking meal and fantastic value. You looked physically moved there Gary with your fond memories. Made the video seem even more real. Thanks again.
It did bring back some wonderful memories 👌👌
Thank you Gary. You have made my day watching your review. I have a smile on my face and life feels good. 😊
That’s very kind thank you Steven
That looked just amazing! Love the fact you get a mop up of soda as well! So pleased you enjoyed it! Food has that amazing way of igniting memories and emotions so I know what you mean and how it feels! Another fab video.
Thank you so very much Michelle x
A bit late to the party, last week I decided it would be a really good idea to slosh coffee all over my laptop. Waited in vain for it to rise phoenix-like from the ashes, no joy, so I am now the embarrassed owner of a posh new laptop. That stew - when you dug the buttered soda bread into it' I nearly died. That dessert is practically illegal. Love your enthusiasm, and your enjoyment. Lots of love. x
Oh dear Moira, an expensive mistake but great to see you commenting again
I would give a 10 for your meal, Gary. I spent 3 weeks touring SW Ireland with my late wife and dog, in 1996. The hospitality, food, and music in the pubs en route was fantastic. One of my best trips ever!
Ireland is a wonderful country to visit
If you came back now you'd be in for a shock.
Now that was a truly wonderful meal. I love stew, it is so comforting. Nice of you to reminisce such fond thoughts of your childhood. Thank you and the camera man for a heartwarming video!
You are so welcome thank you
Really enjoyed your reviews from Ireland. I've always wanted to visit Ireland and watching your channel has inspired me to go and sample the wonderful food and sample the Guinness. Well done Gary, keep up the great work.
