This is going to comeback to haunt Lee , Lamelo already been through this with the first Hornets coach. I bet when it’s basically confirmed that Lamelo is an all star again you will see retaliation from him. Lee you don’t have the talent and horses to go against Lamelo especially later in the season when every team will grow hungrier for wins. Trust me Lamelo will remember this and play the long game with this coach.

You have a player who only knows "how to ball" loves ball ,only wants to ball and has a style of playground basketball that often leads to bad 30 feet 3 pointers and frustration fouls when turns to ball over vs a coach who loves to teach ,believes in fundamental play, team play and wants to build a "culture of that belief. You hear that in his press conferences never giving single praise to one player. He has to find a balance in teaching a understanding this isn't Milwaukee or boston with a history of winning, This is a organization that needs wins .

Here's to hoping LaMelo drops a 40 ball on thursday and everyone can move past it quickly

Odd this happend in a Nationally televised game....the NBA is trying to SUPPRESS lamelo they don't want him to be a star. Melo can't get a call Refs let him hit the floor 20 times a game at the rim just no respect he's going to get hurt again bc teams know they can rough him up and nothing so they will just keep fouling him harder. I don't blame Melo for being frustrated it unreal the lack of calls for a player of his caliber but I think they know he would avg 35+ points a game if he got a fair whistle. Can you imagine Luka Doncic getting benched 4th quarter and he takes tons of so called bad shots and makes stupid fouls and chirps at the Refs WAY more then Lamelo...he also has bad stretches of gameplay just like every player ever but you dont bench Lamelo. This is crazy Lamleo makes plays nobody in the world can make. And look at the team they have around him...Imagine if they had a decent Center For Melo to Drop dimes to on his way to the rim and you have Taj FREAKING GIBSON 40 years old wtf and he sits out so you have Grant Williams who cant finish a single layup assist from Melo...this is a joke no wonder he can at times take a bad shot or two what other option does he have and most of the time he puts the team on his back in the 4th leading NBA in scoring.

You guys are truly amazing. I realize you’re in the entertainment industry and have to create and discuss controversial subjects. But to sit here and listen how much more you know than Charles Lee it’s truly amazing.
If you have ever coached at any level, and that includes the NBA with it politics, as you say, some things do not change. Great coaches affect change in their players. The issues you guys have had with the previous coach and staffs were that they were not assertive enough with LaMelo Ball and now you get a coach who actually doing what he’s paid to do and that’s bring out the best in his players And your questioning that.
Anyway, it’s amusing how often sports commentators are wrong and there breakdown of what is going on with a team and behind the scenes and when they’re predictions and insights, do not pan out they just go onto the next prediction. Weatherman are held more accountable than sports commentators! Love you guys. Give Coach a break and support him a little love for not playing games with his players and doing what is right.

In my opinion, you live and die with your star player, I don't really get Lee benching Melo in the last 4 minutes, you want to teach him a lesson, fine, get him out of the game, and bring him back in the last 2 minutes... Hopefully there are no major consequences in the future and everyone can move forward, but from the outside it doesn't look good for either the coach or the player, even the players that stayed in the court seemed surprised about the change. One thing for sure, Charles Lee have some COJONES to do what he did last night, and I hope that the team continue to buy in, the result yesterday did not went well with his decision. One last Thing, Hornets have demonstrated a decent competitive level for most of the games, despite going through injuries.

Lamelo was making poor decisions, playing lazy defense, had just taken awful shots and committed a take foul 90 feet from the basket. NONE of which are winning habits that Jeff Peterson and Charles Lee have been preaching from day 1. This was a culture benching and I'm 100% for it.

When will Lamelo learn not to make stupid frustration fouls? He's no longer a big fish in a small pond and no longer on Daddy's high school team. Grow the f up Lamelo and act professional. You can't be the franchise player and never grow up. Charles Lee is only doing what Lavar, Borego, Clifford, etc should have done. What team is going to pay someone max money if that player can't control their emotions? Would a serious team want to depend on Lamelo in the finals if he's unpredictable? No way. Lamelo and Charlotte are stuck with each other until he grows up so if he wants to do stupid stuff and sit on the bench then that's his choice. Do you think the rest of the team isn't sick of the stupid fouls? Don't you think Lamelo has already been cussed out a thousand times on the bus, locker room, etc? That clearly doesn't work with him. He needs to be sat down and if he wants out because he was benched for one quarter then bye bye.

Lamelo needs a true vet in the locker room taj Gibson is not it. Imagine if we had a Derozan type vet. He probably asked for a trade after the game, if not by next week. He ain’t built that way. And there’s nobody in management nor coaches that have his respect enough to check him. 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

Sorry, but yall sound you have small market insecurities. If this was LA, NYC, or Boston, then it’s “a message to the Star.” If Lamelo can’t change, and demands a trade over this, then that horrible behavior by a star. Lamelo is incredible, but he cost them the game, not Lee.
When Stephen Silas was coaching the Rockets the young players were just fucking around making mistakes and he had a quote of something like “they have to learn, I can’t just take them out…” and he got replaced with Ime Udoka, who has flipped that team around with mainly the same team.
If yall want to contend there needs to be messages like this that tells the team nobody is above being benched. This is a culture shift, and the team will learn more from this loss, more than if the team won if Lamelo had stayed in. The loss sucks for the fans, but if Lamelo takes his “Ball” and goes elsewhere, then he’s truly not a superstar that will lead the team.

  • @haroldchairs4434

This thing started with the Slur that Lamelo said. Lee chastised his star publicly. It was a mistake, but they acted like it was World War 3! When Ant did the same thing or Jokic the coach said nothing. The story no one even really talked about it. You could tell Lamelo wasn’t into the game at the beginning. And didnt have a good game. But this happens with players they can turn it on whenever. Coach robbed him of that right. It has nothing to do with fouls or bad shot selection. Lamelo has kept them in games when they shouldn’t , with one of the worst rosters in the league. He has played when others have sat out. He has spent 5 years in Charlotte really carrying the franchise. The coach has growing to do, it maybe best to let him go

I am interested to see how this situation is salvaged, as the damage is done, and I hope Melo takes it neutral/positive and not negative as that will be the downfall.

This was one of the worst games I've seen them play in a while. There was sloppy ball handling and passing resulting in numerous turnovers and poor shot selection. Can't remember another nba team that can't inbound the ball. Melo was taking poor shots and the ball wasn't moving on the offense. He also spends too much time barking at the officials over no calls. Lee's decision to play a small ball line up forgoing rim protection and rebounding makes no sense when you getting eaten alive offensively and defensively on the glass.

That take foul is why he got benched. The emotional control lemelo ball doesn’t have is a problem.
I just wished he would have said that durring the press conference, but I get it. The team probably wouldn’t let him say what he needed to.
If he can’t learn from this, as much of I love his play, a championship team can’t be built onto an immature lead.

This action by the coach was at best disingenuous , and, I also feel it was premeditated. Lamelo the star of a team with zero low post presence for the entirety of his young career was off to a really good start and was relegated to the bench from the 9 minute mark of the first quarter to north of the six minute mark of the second quarter. In real time he was on the bench for greater than 20 minutes while the team struggled getting the ball up court. I do not think this ends well.

Melo has a tendency to lose his head when shot isn't falling. Also that foul was 100% worth being pulled for, it was careless.

When it comes to being a coach .
You have to take a stand and draw your line in the sand. Lamelo is never going to be an all NBA player and win in the playoffs if he doesn’t become at least an Average defender without fouling. He doesn’t have to be an elite defender but he at least needs to be average on that end.
Phil Jackson had to take a stand with Michael Jordan earlier in his coaching career and they won 6 championships
IF Hornets want to be Elite, they got to hold guys accountable
Draw the line in the sand

You can't win basketball games jacking up 3 pointers as soon as you get past half court. You got to play in structure. Just because you get your numbers, you are still affecting the team. Kobe had to learn that, Iverson never did. You win championships as a team. Structured offence, solid defense. He is building something. Lamelo needs to get on board. This man has multiple championships. He wants to build it the right way.
