Cool video. Liked. I am researching using pellets in a East Oak electric smoker (received as a Christmas gift). Never smoked anything before and most places say pellets are OK in a unit like mine even though they are not recommended but you should put them in a foil pouch w/ holes poked in it (pellets burn faster, I guess). Any thoughts on that? Thanks!
No foil. That is something that you could do on a grill, works really well on to of two charcoal briquettes. All electric smokers burn the same way, just start with a small load, like a 1/4 cup. If the temperature is too high they could ignite, but a small amount will be gone in a second. That still is not likely. I am using pellets on a regular basis since this video... Smoking cheese tomorrow.
Thank you so much for this video. I've seen so much saying do not use pellets in a chip smoker. I just want to buy a small smoker like the one in your video. You convinced me to go get one. I had been using a smoker tube with my gas grill. I have a question. How often should you load more chips into the smoker? How long does it take to burn off? Should you open the air vent half way or all the way? Again thanks for your video.
I have a video test for how long do the wood chips last but I go with 45 minutes. I am not sure what you mean by burn off. I open the vent all the way unless it is very cold outside , then I go no less that 50% to prevent stale smoke taste. Thanks for watching!
I used pellets also in my Masterbuild too , but about 15 pellets , { I have the manual dial at the element } now I know too use a 1/2 cup . Thinking this will help me a bunch more in a better taste .
I am not sure if it made a big difference in the taste on my tests. Mostly I like to buy pecan pellets and this makes it easy for me to use those in my electric smoker.
I've tried this at a constant 225 degrees and the pellets just burn up too fast and leave a mess in the smoke chip tray. But I just bought a pellet smoker tube and going to try that this week in my Masterbuilt electric smoker.
Pellet tubes and trays are awesome. you can buy a flexible metal tube and pipe the some through the woodchip loading hole. Also, mailbox mode is great. I had my son make me a custom box for the pellet tray that I call the bird house, its on the channel. th-cam.com/video/tZiBi2jYlvM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gjB21YHfsM248ruG
I just tried it last year for the first time and I am happy with the results. I find the smoke faster and heavier, just like fine saw dust. Thanks for watching.
I have not tried to use pellets in the factory attachment. I have homemade attachments like the mailbox mod and what I call the birdhouse that I use pellet trays in on a regular basis, great for smoking cheese. What exactly would you like me to test?

@@pioneersmokehouseschannel Very informative, thank you!
Was trying to find out why the manual specifically says not to use them. Really dont see any reason they wouldn't wotk tho.
It was a question so that is why I did the test. I have tried pellets in a few different smokers and it works in all of them!
@@pioneersmokehouseschannel any thing else you noticed besides the quick burn since you have been using them.
I mix pellets and charcoal in my electric smoker. Perfection.
I wanna try this mix
great idea. I have crushed up lump and briquettes to mix with wood chips. I did see charcoal pellets, I think I might try that.
That's all I use in my Masterbuilt
