Having access to a great healthcare system, having good education without going bankrupt, parental leave, good housing, good quality jobs. These are HUGE things. No wonder they are so happy! These are not small things by any means.
Measuring happiness between countries seems to be rather vague. Life in Finland is nothing like life in America so what are you measuring--a mental state? They say they are happy with small things yet they make use of all the American inventions: Face Book, Google, Whats App, LinkedIn, MicroSoft, Apple etc. Perhaps it would be more meaningful to measure who are the toughest peoples!
