It should be noted that there has to be a decent age gap between Anakin and Obi-Wan, at least ten years. This is because of Obi-Wan describing Darth Vader as a "young Jedi" when he fell to the dark side, and Darth Vader later insulting Obi-Wan by saying "Your powers are weak, old man".
This is great. Swapping Naboo for Alderaan adds a much needed connection to the OT that makes the movies feel far more like a single story than before. Same with the introduction of Owen Lars. Aging up Anakin is also undoubtedly the best decision and I honestly can't believe George thought it was a good idea to make him so young. The biggest thing that stands out as bad in my opinion is the addition of natural elements to the Jedi Temple. I think it undercuts one of the main themes of the prequels which was the corruption of the Jedi and their falling away from the will of the Force, i.e. nature itself. Though I do see the merits of having the Temple lose its natural aspects throughout the trilogy, I still think it would be better if they've already lost it by Episode I. It would show that their corruption and fall has been a long time coming and wasn't just spurred on by the Clone Wars alone. It also would have been nice if Anakin had still partaken in the space-battle above Naboo (now Alderaan), as it would have been far more believable now that he's older and also would have provided a great opportunity to show his innate talent with the Force. Dooku's inclusion was also great. Overall this was fantastic. I'm looking forward to Episode II if you ever plan to redo that one in a similar way.
The primary issue with this particular storyboard is that it eliminates almost all the intrigue surrounding the narrative. It reveals too much information to the audience, hindering their emotional engagement by depriving them of the suspense and the element of surprise that come from mystery and the unknown.
I think it would be better if they just took the first movie as the first hour of Phantom menace with out Maul dying. We also see how the trade federation falls apart by the people of Naboo finding a way around it. We cut to 15years later as the Naboo wall is torn down and Maul is back trying to kill Padme. This movie would have an anti-climax as we don't see the final fight, instead Anakin being angry, Kenobi being sad and Padme being taken away by the council and forbidden from seeing Anakin again. Mauls fate would remain a mystery.
I've been looking for Digital Artists who also happen to love Star Wars for an animated project, are you or whomever created these cool concepts, available for a collab?
great video. i love the artwork. i just got this in my recomended. keep up the good work. tbh i dont mind TPM that much, atoc tho is a film i have hated since i saw it as a kid. anakin being so edgy is annoying. i think anakin should have been likable. i also think the film should have focused on his relationship with palpy and kenobi. with a strong friendship with kenob and palpy manipulating by acting as a father figure. anakin should have been shown to be a kind hearted war hero. then episode 3 we see the downfall. sadly in the prequels we only get like 10 minutes of nice friendly TCW tv show style anakin before he becomes an unhinged mass murderer.
There's nothing wrong with Anakin being "edgy". It makes sense given his background. And he wouldn't be a "kind hearted war hero" since there wouldn't be any war until the end of AOTC.
It may be my nostalgia speaking, but I don’t like this much more, not that it’s worse than the original film or bad in any major manner. There are some things here and there, such as padawans practicing with wooden swords(it doesn’t make much sense since lightsabers don’t have a mass distribution akin to a sword) that need to be fixed, but overall there’s definitely some good changes in here. Also, there needs to be continuity with older Star Wars material, so while I like the idea of the Jedi temple being nature oriented, that’s not how it’s depicted in the old republic games and cinematics, so I would say that would be one of a few aspects that simply have to remain untouched to avoid retcons.
i hate this fear of retcons or any change. if something new works better, it works better. george lucas retconned tons from the EU with the prequels and TCW. it doesnt matter. as long as its creative and entertainning. i dont think creatives should be hindered. star wars is just a collection of legends and tall tales at the end of the day. as long as retcons dont fundementally break the story like luke isnt actually anakins son, then im not really bothered. what i care about is the story, i dont care about the aesthetics being 100% consistent. i think fans get too caught up on the minutia. too caught up on glup shittos that they forget star wars is a fairy tale (that has real world allegory to american imperalism and the fall of liberal democracy due to the rise of neoconservatism) george lucas didnt care about being consistant. it took some stuff from the EU but for the most part that was a different universe to his.
