Before any patches, straight out of the box, NBA 2K19 is a much improved game.
Here are my thoughts on the gameplay so far.
If I didn't put enough emphasis on the steals, passes are definitely way too easy to steal. It's becoming a frequent problem where they only throw the pass at one height so square jammers are having a field day.
Other than that, everything else I said stands.

Hey Dom. Something I think that 2K should do is when someone tries to steal, there is a higher possibility that they get they're ankles broke by a bad steal attempt, or too many steal attempts

I love the defense and do have the same fear that bad players will complain so much that it’s patched, I can’t have 2K18’s bad defense again that game was so terrible

18 was my best 2k in regards to fun, but gameplay I’d have to say 16
I’m like 1-4 against the CPU right now. You nailed it with the learning curve aspect. I’ve been running a bunch of plays and pick and rolls
Gotta play a realistic style. Once you get it down its not hard, I still cheese on hall of fame, beat CPU by 20-30 each match

Patch 21 Actually? Let’s go dude. Last year I tried a year long sim but I actually never lost a game because the HoF CPU was buns. Hopefully CPU is godly this year so I can get some damn competition.

In my experience the defensive A.I. for your own team is absolutely trash, no help defense if you get beaten, everybody just stands there and watches. Sometimes getting out of the way

They ALWAYS ruin it with patches.. This is why everyone who still keeps supporting 2K are idiots. Even if the game is decent now, they'll patch it like 10+ times and all of a sudden a lot of things that weren't broken before are broken.

I'm glad they fixed the passing thing, cause being that Shaq was on the cover you would think playing the post would be the focus, but instead it was almost a guaranteed turnover whenever you passed it in the post

All the things in my opinion, could've been fixed in 2k18 by a simple patch.
I am loving the in-game gameplay this year. I really hope they don't nerf the defense. Make people learn how to protect the ball and create open shots.
However it is far too easy to steal the ball for non-defenders. That has got to change. I was stealing the ball every time with Kyle Kuzma. That can’t be happening. If it’s Paul George or Kawhi Leonard then it’s understandable.

My strategy every year is to play now against cpu and then when i start blowing them out then ill play online

i like how they implemented better defense but at times it feels like everyones a damn lockdown defender lol
1v1 is almost impossibe, so i play it as a pick and roll simulator. Im just glad they use a few variations when you use the pnr's in the quick play menu.

And the layups are actually the best they’ve ever been-to me at least. I wasn’t a fan of the layup timing decision but once I got used to it, I went to make the switch to regular layups and I just had a better overall experience with the timed ones- I felt like I could do more. My main shortcoming in 2K is definitely shot timing though, sometimes I’m just really off. Plus I don’t like the shot meter itself
on your point about the derrick rose being guarded by kevin love is absolutely true, blow buys are dead cant get anything to go for myself personally if its like lebron being guarded by kat you should have a better chance at blowing buy than lebron being guarded by kawhi

The speed of the game really threw me off more on the defensive end. It’s def a learning curve if they do patch the game I just hope they make it a little faster. I love how it seems more skill based now though.
The defense made the game much harder this year I had to adjust my style of play to it and the CPU offense isnt so predictable and its harder to contain star players so in my mind 2k19 takes a big W

Do screens actually work? Because I'm sick of calling for a pick and my big is screening in the paint, causing a 3 second violation.

People are exploiting steals so they're standing so close that its hard to use a screen without it getting stolen
Tips for post scoring: Don’t immediately dribble. Take some time to see how the defender is playing you, if they’re gonna double you, send help, etc.
Ignore spins unless you’re at the free throw line. 2k has never been good with post spins.
Post hop shots and post fades are usually the best way to get open, very rarely should you ever go in for layups unless you get a really good switch.
Its so crazy to me that since TH-cam came out... everybody plays 2k like it was Madden... using the "up and down" 2k camera instead of the Broadcast "side to side" camera which is the way older gamers like me have always played baskrtball games. I think younger people startrd watching TH-cam to learn how to play the game or learn a bunch of cheese and exploits and the people playing the game on TH-cam were playing it like this so they just copied. Its so artificial to have to wait for that camera to swing around with the ball changes possessions... it basically kills fastbreaks and up tempo game play.

I love the fact that you get rewarded for running an actual offense and not playing an arcade dribble game.
I didn’t abuse blow-buys and snatchbacks but I did use them a good amount because of how well they worked. I just played my first game game on 2k19 and i was trying to figure out what the strategy was. The only thing that I found was consistently effective was the pick and pop.
I don't know about you guys, but players get injured so much in the release version. I played MyLeague and every single game a player gets injure fr.
The animations are clunky and slow. This is the worst game they've made in years IMO. its absolutely ridiculous

One thing thats not as common but still sucks is when you tip a pass, but dont get possession, the game will count it as a steal and when the opponent recovers it counts as a turnover. They need to tweal that a recognize full possession if the ball

They brought back the mygm mode from 2k17. They added a mentor thing. Or it was there before and i never noticed. You can have a player mentor another player to help with badges.
Can I make expansion teams? Or do I have to relocate a current one

@@CyGuyDudley you can choose league expansion when you start a mygm. The only thing about it they changed from last year is they took out league realignment. I just liked being able to align the divisions to have one expansion team each, to be realistically fair. You can also chose to just rebrand your team without relocating. Like im working on rebuilding the nets and rebranding them as the new york nets because i hate their jerseys, logo, and arena.

I love 2k19s gameplay so damn much. I love the skill based system.
The only negative, even though I enjoy it, all my pro am teammates from the last few years (who admittedly survived on gimmicks) are struggling bad, especially my point guard. But I’ve figured it out for the most part, so we haven’t been at our best.

For layups in Post it makes it easier if u make up and under moves. But u have to make them also in the right moment.
Why do the defense run back on defense so quick. Also the should have players like Derrick rose 2010-2011, Russell Westbrook, and good finisher be able to finish at the rim through hard defenses

on 18 you would press up the inbound and the computer would still pass to the guy you’re shading. If you were right in front of him they’d still pass it, the guy wouldn’t even try to get open.
Say they pass it someone else and bring it down and they pass it back to the pg, you could shade them well and they jam it in. Didn’t matter if you were in front they’d pass it. A pass no nba player would attempt in real life.

The only thing they need to fix is the cpu defense. Can’t set a screen without the defense sliding right back in front of me. Crossovers are useless when the cpu can run/slide right back in front of you. Online aswell as my career has these issues. It just feels like a magnet is stuck on the cpu

Antonio Holley I avg 36 points, 5 rebounds, 12.3 assist a game while playing on HOF with a 6’3 shot creating slasher. Still doesn’t change the fact the cpu defense needs some work. Not every player in the league is a lock down defender.

The CPU in mycareer is insanely tough to get past. Even terrible on ball defenders like Trey Young guard me like MJ in his prime. Jimmy Butler only has to reach in one time to poke the ball loose from me and thats really frustrating I swear. I have no problem with great defenders defending well but don’t have trey young guarding me like LeBron bruh..

Steals have been a legacy issue mainly off ball steals cpu triggers unrealistic animations where players who are out of position gets steals looking like Odell Beckham
IMO and at least for now before they may put the famous patch that completely changes the game, this feels like the most realistic game that they have released, and not for the graphics but because I really feel that the gameplay is really close to the real NBA and I love it. Thus far, this 2k is good, and I haven't liked a 2k since 2k16

I like to see that they added proper collision and physics for paint play, last year might have been the worst ever for that in a 2k game, as in it was severely nerfed for offensive players, and good position meant nothing.

I’m a post master so that post scoring wasn’t really a problem for me, my biggest problem is the on ball steals and the mismatches not working
I honestly went from dominant in 2k18 to trash in 2k19 because of the blow by cheese

They still need to watch an NBA game, because I dont think they've ever seen how a pick n roll is effectively executed. As long as I can remember, I've only gotten the screener to make contact w/ the on ball defender on about 20% of my called screens... nevermind create seperation
Steals are actually perfect as they are. Play smart and you wouldn’t have to worry about turnovers. There’s actually a skill gap in this game name and I love it. I don’t want this game to regress back to 2k18 with no defense

I love this gameplay I really hope they don't change it even though it's difficult.. I remember back in 2ks past there's been a couple years where the gameplay was hard but perfect. And they cave in to the casuals and update it to make it arcadey. This is honestly the best sports simulation game I've played of any sport and any year.. I hope they don't change much and if they do should only be to improve what they have.
Totally agree : 2K fixes the blow by, but first step doesnt count ; you cant pass a slow center with a fast PG after a switch on PnR.

Great video and great insight. Like you, I hope 2k doesn't cave in and patch many of these things.
He said, "Steals are overpowered. You can't dribble with the ball unprotected without someone knocking it loose".......... That's real life basketball lol. Don't dribble as much and move the ball to the rest of the team. Ball movement shifts the defense out of position and that creates open shots. It's basketball 101. Stealing isn't overpowered, it's realistic. That's like in 2K18 where you could dribble for the whole play, do a couple combos and make a contested 3. That was overused and unrealistic and they made it to where you can't do that this year. The same people that overdribbled last year are the same people that are saying the steals are overpowered this year. The solution: Don't dribble as much and pass the ball more. It won't hurt you to get 4 more assists per game. And that's a positive thing because assists give you the most teammate grade of anything so it helps everyone out.
Have u played the game? Even when u protect thr ball sometimes guys are spamming and they get a animation to steal it. That's basically all guys do online is spam spam spam. And u could make the right pass and they will get tipped or picked off from players flying outta nowhere.
2K has the worst steal mechanics. Stop it.

You also have to talk about HOF difficulty in MyCareer, 2K need to fix that. They make the CPU so OP even with a lower overall every players on the opposite team can score easily

The need to make it option to decide where the shot meter is. I liked 2k17 shot meter under the player.

2K has found a niche in preying on the impatience of people. Yes they could've released both copies on the same day but then not as many copies of the Legend Edition would get sold. People just need to show some restraint.

seems like some improvements to me but the catching animations of passes hurt my eyes sometimes minimal improvement there it needs fluidity to catch as they run run and gun without the receiving player stuttering to finish the animation
At least the shot meter on hook shots is back, i'm 5-2 record right now.
