Listen people, he said it in the video: the mileage is good FOR a 3 tonne truck! The original gets 15mpg, so at 20mpg, it's a 33% improvement. You don't get this if you want "a hybrid," i.e. save gas, you get it if you want an *Escalade* with 20mpg. 1 in 3 Escalades sold now are hybrids.
That's actually verrrrry good for A 332 hp v8 6000+lb SUV, And since the EPA had to water down how they rate mileage a few years back, because everyone seems to think every inch of the road is a race track. The Caddy (and most vehicles for that matter) actually get better mileage than the sticker say. One group that rates green cars averaged 25.6 MPG in a mix of city and highway, in the less efficient 4x4. that's better than I get in my 3800lb v6 Buick.
@AgentOrange04 I know. Small diesel SUV's are very popular in Europe. The problem is that so many American still consider diesels to be noisy and smelly. That is not the case with new diesel engines.
When we traded our 2009 Hybrid in it had 27,001 miles and it read an average 22 mpg. Resale was best of any luxury SUV I've owned including Cayenne and Audi Q7. Now we'll see how our 2011 Cayenne stacks up against it. So far, 2007 Q7 and 2009 Escalade are the leaders with 2005 SRX close behind.
This truck is great all the way around. For those who don't like it, you probably have never been in or driven one. Granted, the fuel economy is horrible (hybrid or not) but there are very few luxurious people movers out there (Navigator & Infiniti QX come to mind) that can compare. The European and most Japanese suvs are luxurious, but fall short on interior room+cargo.
Explain to me how you would save with just as much with the normal escalade. Last time i checked one of them would only get around 14 since normally people drive them in the city. THe hybrid should get like 20 all the time. So please explain how in the world you'd think you can spend just as much on fuel between the normal and the hybrid version.
@mirlin235 Yes ofc, i knew that, muscle car era.. but what i mean is that its ridiculous to have a 6.2 L engine, im sure a 3 L turbo diesel would give the same amout of torque, but then they have to make the escalade (and its sister models, tahoe, yukon etc) lighter
Oh I'm not saying its spectacular in general, but for what it is its very good, and considering GM didn't give a crap about mileage till about 2 1/2 years ago, there aren't a lot of ways to get the for-mentioned vehicle to achieve that sort of mileage, so they had to chuck a hybrid system in it. P.S I didn't vote you down, We're just two guys talking about cars nothing to get mad about, Thought some times its hard not to LOL!
Price of petrol in the UK at the moment is £1 per litre, £4.40 per gallon (but I don't know how a US gallon differs from a European one). Not sure what that is in $ at the moment but I believe it's about double the price it is in America. Last summer prices peaked at about £1.20 per litre. If we had your petrol prices we'd probably be driving more V8s!
Richard Hammond on Top Gear when testing another Cadillac: "Americans just don't get luxury. To them luxury just means making things bigger". He's got a point. This car is inconveniently large and inefficient. It's sumptuous, but that's not the same as quality. Take Range Rover. That's big, but not too big, sumtuous AND seriously premium quality.
I had an 04 for about 3 years and didn't have any major problems whatsoever.. good car... I thought GM did a horrible job on the new generation body thou.. older escalades were much angular and polygonish, a style that was taken away considerably from the new body style.. o well...
End of the Day , people like driving these vehicles. Best is for the West to completely convert to electric propulsion. The size of the vehicles is ittelevant, it is the Propulsion systems that need to be developed. There are huge amounts of electrical evergy out there, it is just about developing storage.
Yes. And done so for a market that doesn't give a shit about its carbon footprint to begin with, hence the driving of an Escalade. I don't think anyone's going to argue with you that it's a baffling move.
I don't want to criticise Americans here, but you HAVE to realise that hybrid cars are pointless. This guy says that the Toyota Prius will do 45mpg. My petrol will do 50mpg, my parents' diesel will do 55-60mpg, 0-60 in 9 secs and 115mph. This kind of figure is standard in Europe, but this doesn't seem to be acknowledged in the US. Efficient engines give you power and economy, bigger ones only power. Problem is there isn't the market for these cars in the US, only want V8s and hybrids.
our gov wants us to go to the station to fill up more often with their rediculous gas prices. so far the car that gets the best mileage here in the US thats not hybrid is a VW TDI Jetta.
if only american auto makers made engines with high compression reducing this way the capacity to 1.5L or 2L for cars, that would greatly decrease fuel usage
omg 21mpg LOL mine gets 60. Even though it's not a 3tone SUV, how many people actually need that size for daily usage? you can't turn a gaz guzzler into something else, it will always be one
@AgentOrange04 Diesel stinks and sounds awful, that's why they're not commonly used over here. We only put them in our pickup trucks for extra hauling/towing ability.
Thats not true. In Europe, american cars were the symbol of wealth for many, and for many they are still superior thanks to their more agressive styling. Since we can afford it, we only buy american cars. I love Jeeps, Cadillacs, Lincolns!
Nobyody in europe buys american cars for several reasons. Its too big for the roads. Its mpg at 21 is still to small. Its interior is usually lower quality and has pooorer ride comfort and worse suspension the a land rover or an audi q7 or even a vw tuareg. But i suppose the manin reason we dont buy hybrids is beacuse if we want a car with high mpg we just buy a diesel and get on with it. Plus road going monsters arent that popular in ireland because we only have small roads
How much gas is wasted just moving the vehicle itself? I'm guessing over 80%. Until the public realizes how inefficient it is to drive a tank, things like this will continue to sell.
im srry, but a HYBIRD ESCALADE? thts such a terrible idea considering tht the mpg isnt tht much better... and putting a hybird in an escalade defeats the purpose.
@AgentOrange04 My theory (more of a conspiracy theory) is that the oil companys makes the car manufactures to build cars with big engines so that people have to stop for gas more often... or maybe its the american way: big cars, big engines, no economic aspect what so ever =D
20mpg ha That's supposed to be good? And on a side note the interior looks so cheap . Like most american cars it looks as if the interiors have all been made from the cheapest materials money can buy
wow it's 3 years later since your idiotic comment. "Ha,ha,ha. Nice try Cadillac" And to date, has the LX570 outsoldthe Cadillac Escalade??? Here's some facts: Since 2008,the LX570 has sold just under 20,000 units. FACT Lets throw in the Land Cruiser and combine an all out total since 2008 to now. Grand total: 28,212 FACT Cadillac Escalade since 2008 up till now: 117,971. FACT Oh, and fuel economy for your beloved LX570 13/city 17 hwy Escalade hybrid 20/city 21 hwy That's why you got neg votes,ha
They call this 20-21mpg hybrid?..Seems like GM is throwing "hyrid" badges everywhere. Calling this $88,000 gas-guzzler a hyrid is a shame. Shame on you GM, shame on you for trying to fool people. No wonder GM brand is dying...it's because of CRAP like this.
I disliked because the title to this video is INCORRECT!!! Hybrid should be on the title, I've clicked on this STUPID video thinking I'm watching a regular or even an E85 Escalade, I DON'T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT HYBRID I OWN AN E85 ESCALADE I DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT MY MPG's

This is HOT!!! Its freakin awesome my friend has one and he gets 23 MPG, which is the same as my friend with a CR-V gets.
How do you NOT like this? It is one of Americas best luxury SUVS
Niice, been waiting for a review of this car, thanks Roadfly!
@AgentOrange04

Even though I'm a tree-hugger, I became love-struck by this thing when I sat in it at a dealership. It's intoxicating.

Very well done review.
the motor is dirty. should have wiped it down before the shoot. do you have PAs on you shoots?
I'm not surprised... read about this tech for the new equinox. very genius. GM should advertise the hell out of this new tech
Richard Hammond on Top Gear when testing another Cadillac: "Americans just don't get luxury. To them luxury just means making things bigger". He's got a point. Escalades are so nice!!
true cant argue that..
@jwatwater Why is it stupid, you can drive it without using nearly as much fuel, the only drawback.
@AgentOrange04 you're right ! I
I had an 04 for about 3 years and didn't have any major problems whatsoever.. good car... I thought GM did a horrible job on the new generation body thou.. older escalades were much angular and polygonish, a style that was taken away considerably from the new body style.. o well...
I LOVE ESCALADE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
at the moment gas prices here are $2.58 for unleaded gasoline, last summer it was $4.28, I guess you guys do pay more for fuel, £4.40 is like $6.24 !
wonder how tall the host is?
End of the Day , people like driving these vehicles. Best is for the West to completely convert to electric propulsion. The size of the vehicles is ittelevant, it is the Propulsion systems that need to be developed. There are huge amounts of electrical evergy out there, it is just about developing storage.
Isnt the Tahoe that he speaks of, a Chevy, not a GMC?
Yes. And done so for a market that doesn't give a shit about its carbon footprint to begin with, hence the driving of an Escalade.
I don't think anyone's going to argue with you that it's a baffling move.
@munteanuioan Alot of people who do, don't.
@YunqPriince14 Thats what i thought.

what? thats like saying the uk isn't in europe its in eastern europe ?
Why?
"That's what she said" - Michael Scott
if only american auto makers made engines with high compression reducing this way the capacity to 1.5L or 2L for cars, that would greatly decrease fuel usage
omg 21mpg LOL
mine gets 60. Even though it's not a 3tone SUV, how many people actually need that size for daily usage?
you can't turn a gaz guzzler into something else, it will always be one
The Lexus RX 450h is the best hybrid SUV.
btw. hybrid Escalade sounds like a paradoxon.
Damn, it's huge :o
support
think you wanted to spell "tip" but there's a reason you can live in places for people that find it too difficult to drive
20 mpg is an example hybrid is a marketing scheme.
@AgentOrange04 diesel SUV would suck really bad why the heck would you say that
who ever has money to buy a escalade ,has money to fill it up...
@munteanuioan "has to have money" is more appropriate.
I was only pointing out the people who marked my comment down, I didn't mean you.
@AgentOrange04 Diesel stinks and sounds awful, that's why they're not commonly used over here. We only put them in our pickup trucks for extra hauling/towing ability.
I am even a toyota fan and i even found toyotaminivans comment to be asanine.
Hello!
Well some people like it.
I want mine with a V-12!!!!
Thats not true. In Europe, american cars were the symbol of wealth for many, and for many they are still superior thanks to their more agressive styling. Since we can afford it, we only buy american cars. I love Jeeps, Cadillacs, Lincolns!
Another reason why you don't see these "beasts" is because of higher taxes and especially because of much higher gasprices.
I test drove this car and it was very bad...felt like I was going to til over in the curves...string wind and the car moves like it might flip..
Nobyody in europe buys american cars for several reasons. Its too big for the roads. Its mpg at 21 is still to small. becouse they suck?
this car is for people who want a escalade but cant afford the gas prices... i still love the regular escalade's tough
How much gas is wasted just moving the vehicle itself? I'm guessing over 80%. Until the public realizes how inefficient it is to drive a tank, things like this will continue to sell.
The car no one can afford!
20 mpg? LOL what is the point of it then?why not get a 3.0 diesel like an x5 or porche cayane or audi q7...
f*ckin' right Hoven!!
im gonna buy it in white
im srry, but a HYBIRD ESCALADE? thts such a terrible idea considering tht the mpg isnt tht much better... and putting a hybird in an escalade defeats the purpose.
Many people in Eastern Europe like amerikan cars! And it much cooler if you got american car there!
this really is on of GM's sickest jokes. everyone who believes this is a green vehicle is a terrorist
I'm sorry, but I can't see myself buying a shiny tahoe. Of course this car looks cool, but I couldn't see myself owning one.
White guy on this Scalade? Awesome
@AgentOrange04 My theory (more of a conspiracy theory) is that the oil companys makes the car manufactures to build cars with big engines so that people have to stop for gas more often... or maybe its the american way: big cars, big engines, no economic aspect what so ever =D
$70000???
wow
LOL 20 MPG's. They shouldn't have even bothered with a hybrid.
LMAO at Fremont696!!! I hope you're just messing around or maybe you've been living under a rock?..
@jacoale lol!!
my uncle has a cadillac escalade like this....its a great car with great luxary .....and good for having sex on it....xDDD
nice car... but buying a Hybird of this is stupid.
why the a mericans love the huge cars (nearly trucks) ??
I agree, in Europe its mercedez, bmw and audi all the way. Nobody wants an american car like this.
omg!
Looks like the Obama Mobile. Except $325,000 cheaper.
Hybrid Escalade, Not a good idea !
verify
pakistan isn't in asia its in the middle east.
that is some funny shit i would put it up on my facebook but i wouldent want to look racist but wow good joke
20mpg ha That's supposed to be good? And on a side note the interior looks so cheap . Like most american cars it looks as if the interiors have all been made from the cheapest materials money can buy
United States isn't in America its in North America
My Volvo 240 gets 20-25 MPG. So ... I hate my car.
wow it's 3 years later since your idiotic comment. "Ha,ha,ha. Nice try Cadillac"

That's why you got neg votes,ha
wt the hell is the point in this car its like sticking a little battery on a flippin tank ad going atleasts it econimical its pointless
ha yes my mistake
They call this 20-21mpg hybrid?..Seems like GM is throwing "hyrid" badges everywhere. Calling this $88,000 gas-guzzler a hyrid is a shame. Shame on you GM, shame on you for trying to fool people. No wonder GM brand is dying...it's because of CRAP like this.
that vid now is irrelavent......GM have gone BUST
This is kinda like Top Gear except its more boring.
It's not a car!!! stop calling trucks and SUV's cars!!
JUNK, not surprised they are BROKE! YOU WOULD NEED ROCKS IN YOUR HEAD TO BUY CARS LIKE THIS. SO LAST MILLENNIUM
the engine is dirty
I hate Priuses and people who drive them.
LOKUMUMmM
