After spending 1000s over the years, I can say: Ben's stuff is impeccable across the board. I just wish I had known about CB Gitty 50 years earlier. Life would have been much simpler. Am in my 61st year of building.
I watch so many builders out there and I do the same, I build a guitar with a pristine 'perfect' finish. Then I watch you and you're more than a builder, you're an artist too. I would have most likely just built it and stained it. But you took what could have been a generic build and made it your own. This is why I watch you, its not just the building tips but its your vision too, that what makes you unique. 👍
Just ordered this guy as a first build! I got the 4 string. Thank you so much for the build video. The instructions will be great but it's great to see someone put it together.
I love the tire tread and the stopping on the brake fluid is precious! I only wish I had started on DOT3. I’d of done stopped a long ways back. I watched the entire video to see how it sounded. I may never know.
I SUBSCRIBED TODAY! I WARCH YOUR VIDEOS ALOT BUT TODAY I REALIZED WE ARE NEIGHBORS!!! MOSTLY.... PORTLANDERS!!! So I think we live in the same neighborhood and you said the magic P word. So I HAVE to support the home team right! Keep making videos and remember to keep them weird! Oh annd I totally agree with John your first track was best.
Great video. Your dog made me smile when he just ignored you. My dog will come into the shop area and lay down behind my feet, and ignore me when I try and get him to move. He has me trained to get a treat to lure him away. 🐶👍😁
Great build! When I built my hubcap resonator CBGs, I just JB Welded a disk piezo to the underside of the hubcap center. On my last one I just glued the top on and when I need to get inside it, I just loosen the strings and pull the hubcap out to access the innards.
If you ever visit old videos for comments, is it necessary to build a thicker saddle for the piezo rod? I just ordered this guitar and a preamp bundle that includes a piezo rod and am going for a similar setup. Would there be any alternative way of mounting it that may sound decent as well? I am concerned that putting the piezo under the resonator will have too much noise, but I really have no idear. Thanks Del!! You have been an inspiration along the way!
Just placed an order last night for the howler and a preamp kit! I’m very excited! Any after thoughts you would have done differently? Have a tip or two for a first time builder? I’m good with building things. Never a guitar though. Can’t wait for the mail to come!
Skip the CBG comments and say... that's on beautiful blue cat and love the age. We lost both our cat buddies over the last two years, neither made it to age 20.
I am watching your videos how to build a CBG and i want to build one but i dont have any idea what is the accurate size of fretting .. can i copy the fret distance of any guitar and apply to my cigar box guitar neck?
What about screwing down the hubcap down so you can remove it to access the piezo rod. The preamp can be removed. So you could completely glue the box together.
ever hear the story about when grandpa got old and thought he was a dog? well, grandpa got into the shop and knocked over a can of varnish and licked the floor clean, then ran away howling. we chased and chased him. finally we found him in an alley where he dropped dead. it was a terrible ending but a beautiful finish.....
Hilarious on the fluid puns. Take it from me, keep your mouth shut when bleeding brakes! That should be the first and last time of drinking brake fluid.

For a guy who's built as many CBG's as you have, you're remarkably uninformed about luthiery practices. Gluing the top with a luthiery grade wood glue like Titebond I would enable you to remove the top by applying heat to the glued surface with a clothes iron or the like and a thin spatula or putty knife to separate (pry apart) the heated and softened glued surfaces. This would enable you to gain access into the instrument to repair or modify it. Screws are for building decks, not guitars. Also your top won't be in full contact with the body if you screw in just a few places. Don't know if your motor oil will ever dry and harden to give you a finish. I would have used Tru-Oil gun finish, several coats. Overall, a creative spin on a kit guitar. LOVE THE TIRE PRINT.
Please tell me to you really didn't drink brake fluid? It sure in the hell looked like brake fluid but damn that shit would probably kill you. And with how the kids are now days they see you drink that shit their think it is ok and will give them a buzz. Pls pls tell me that was not Brake Fluid
Del you magnificent madman, I love it!
You may not agree but I do think that your first tyre print was the best one. Brilliant idea. Thank you for your videos.

Love coming back to rewatch these older videos.

The brake fluid bit scared the absolute hell outta me😂😂
There will be someone out there who will take a taste of brake fluid, I guess that is where survival of the fittest comes in too play!
By. Far. The. Best. YT Clip, Yet! I needed this today brother.

Thanks for subbing!
Love the inside and tight construction of that box. Man that tire track was a genius idea and original stamp.Great tone and playing.
thank you Steve 😎
I made one with a pre-amp and magnetic pickup. It sounds awesome.
Excellent video Del! Your building experitise and accumulated knowledge sure improved the kit...
Great build!! Can’t wait to build the one I got! Just watching you get creative with it gave me all kinds of ideas. Thank you!
I ordered a kit. Since it sounds like a swamp guitar, I am going with a swamp theme. Gator skin, maybe a snake, and some bad ass bone fish.
I knew you were going to use motor oil. I love the way your mind works. Used motor oil would have given it a great color!
I think I saw the "howler" in another vid and thought it was like a forest kind of abstract design. I must've been in a Rorschach frame of mind.
Great video. Your dog made me smile when he just ignored you. My dog will come into the shop area and lay down behind my feet, and ignore me when I try and get him to move. He has me trained to get a treat to lure him away. 🐶👍😁
That is awesome!
Now I know you're effin crazy for sure. Though to be fair I have known for a few years. Love your 'shows'.
Your a Star Del love it.
"I can figure this out without the instructions!"... How many times have I said that and then regretted it! LMAO Great video.

great idea... next time for sure !!!
Good vid brother
"she cant think" holy shit Im laughing my ass off! Yup, I can tell thats one old cat!
Could you have aged the hub cap? Very fun video we both enjoyed it!
Someone has to ask. How often will you need to change the oil? Great mix of info and fun.

That "brake fluid" looks a lot like sherry wine 🤣🤣

hubcap howler is awesome… you’re going to love it
Hi..thanks, don't know what store to shop at now
Great- is there room to make it a 6 string guitar on the neck?
it would be a tight fit
Hey, I think that motor oil is a nice touch. How about 3 in 1 oil?
Skip the CBG comments and say... that's on beautiful blue cat and love the age. We lost both our cat buddies over the last two years, neither made it to age 20.
Is the box ply wood?
I am watching your videos how to build a CBG and i want to build one but i dont have any idea what is the accurate size of fretting .. can i copy the fret distance of any guitar and apply to my cigar box guitar neck?
yes or down load a template online
Sweet as geetar .

Once upon a time I drank antifreeze. Now I buy better wine 🍷

I recommend synthetic oil. The guitar will start easier in cold weather. 😁
Nice one
Thanks for watching
At 18:15 you forget to put the knives, forks and spoons in. Man, I thought you read the instructions...
Is the wood basswood?
i do believe...

That was good. Are you sure your not from the South?
Used oil would be great too
You can stop anytime you like... Hahaha.

i’m still learning
It's a Del Puckett not a stradivaruis.
Light up Mr Luthier . If you have a Del Puckett don't attempt to restore it yourself. Send it back to Del . Pun intended. 😊❤
You forgot the California P65 warning it may cause cancer….
I love your cat 🐈 🙂
I guarantee that is stamped, not spun.
Id drink brake fliud with u any day . GOD BLESS DEL

You do realize you will have to change the oil every year?

A Chariot wheel would be better, then your really would be a Smart Brother.( or Roman). Ok I have to finish watching PICASSO at work.......
