She performed this at 14, right after signing with Republic Records, so was written well before this after the loss of her Beloved Grandfather, she absolutely adored this man and it shows in this song and performance. This is not only for her Grandpa, she wrote it for anyone who has lost a loved one, it is a song of grieving but also a song of hope. She is quite a brilliant young lady. Zack, Angelina signed with Republic Records in August of 2020. She wrote this song soon after her grandfather passed away in 2018. “Million Miles” was released in November of 2020.

And then she makes that connection with the audience. We feel like she’s singing to us as individuals, especially in this beautiful tribute to her grandfather. Zack, when AJ was a little girl, her beloved Japanese grandfather often took her into Oslo, Norway, where he helped the homeless community, with food and, sometimes, a job. He and AJ were greatly respected throughout Oslo. Today she helps the homeless community in LA(discreetly).

This is a very sweet, deep and very intense song and dedicated with infinite love to the missing grandfather jut some months before and to all the people who have lost someone. "Million Miles" was the first song released after Angelina signed with Republic Records in August 2020. When Angelina released the lyric video for this song (well worth watching as her grandmother, Mery, did the artwork), I listened to it on repeat for, literally, hours, and just sobbed. It reached something deep inside me. Old hurts that were so deeply buried I didn't even know they were there. When I finally stopped crying, I felt cleansed and much lighter. This young woman has a way of touching your soul with her music that is unmatched.
If we had to assign a signature original song to Angelina Jordan, this might be it. There are performance versions from her concerts in Norway that emphasize that high note even more dramatically, as well as showing the deep feeling she puts into the song. I'm not a musician, but when I heard this song for the first time I thought how the piano notes reminded me of twinkling stars, and we know that the stars and moon are prominent in many AJ songs. I also love the cello playing in this as it adds so much to Angelina's mourning. Beautiful song...beautiful young lady...beautiful reaction.

This was written in honour of her grandfather, who had recently passed away. Angelina is very close to her family, and has written about them in Shield, another popular song of hers. She sang a slower, more soulful version of this one of her Norway concerts in 2022.

This grandfather was Japanese which is probably why she can speak and sing in Japanese. There’s a video of her singing at a concert in Japan in Japanese. The song was so poignant that I was deeply moved even though I couldn’t understand a word of the song.
