計画敷地は10年前に計画、建設した母屋の隣の敷地である。
母屋の住人は、今の生活に十分に満足に暮らしており、今回の住宅の建設において、その快適さを阻害せぬよう考慮の上設計を行っていった。
それと同時に、その快適性をさらに押し進め、計画建物との良好な関係を図ることにより、この敷地内における新たな活力、ひいてはこの地域の元気に寄与できる建築となることを目指し、計画を行なっていった。
具体的手法としては建物を持ち上げ、大きな軒下空間を作り、母屋と連動した人の流れ、アクティビティーを生む仕組みを考えた。
結果的に、年間降水量の多い石川県では、この軒下空間が快適な日々の生活を守る仕組みにも繋がっていく。
