@ So it seems that my xcr4000 came with Tioga Factory Xc and my second tyre was Panaracer fire xc pro. I remember that despite being light teenager rider frame developed small crack in seatpost section after 2 years.
Love that bike, I had one in 2001. The suspension system isn't complex, it just a very simple cam design inside the bottom bracket, the dog bone rotated the cam around the bottom bracket. Your a bike mechanic, and have never seen the parallel link design of the v-brakes? You must have entered mechanics after the v-brake time period?
Those are second generation LX v's. The original XT/XTR v's worked like that and then LX copied with a bulkier arm and pivots. I like how powerful they are but really with they left the grey finish to XTR only.
that set up would make that bike ride very badly, and uncomfortable, steering would be all over the place, also the left rear chain stay doesn't have a disc brake tab, so wouldn't be able to put rear disc brake on with out a special adapter
I wish I could find someone knowledgeable on repairing the iDrive. Under load, mine often slips out of gear. Three bike shops, plus tons of personal research and attempts, but no luck.
I owned a 2001 GT iDrive 6.0 (same frame design, except for rear drop outs and it had a coil spring and basic Suntour forks as it was the entry level model at the time. I then managed to get hold of a preowned iDrive 4.0 , lighter and better specced than the iDrive 6.0.. I rode the GT iDrive 4.0 to work and back at least 4 days a week, did a lot of climbing and was great! The eccentric iDrive system worked as designed, but it was heavier than it needed to be. Still, I enjoyed my fours year's ownership of that bike.

Parallel v-brakes stx or lx upwards - very powerful for when they were manufactured
I love those tires. I had a pair over 20 years ago and was the best cornering street tire ever. I miss them.
Are we talking about Panaracer fire xc pro
@mackiemack3689 no, the Continental street tires. they had a compound like a racing motorcycle tire and would stick to pavement like glue.

Would make a sweet 69er with a new 29" fork with disc brake wheelset, the back brake is to cool to mess with ...

Those GT 's are the best climbing bike

Cool
those brakes stink
Why?
Back in the mid 1990's those brakes were awesome, and very powerful compared to what was available at that time frame
