Probably the most unique sleeping system on TH-cam. The fact you used one sheet of plywood is impressive.

@@MattTheDesigner It's very cool, the simplest solutions are the cleanest looking and by far the best. Tiny note on pocket screws, they are useful when you don't have access to other side, but if you do, the other way is stronger.

My partner and I wanted to build a bed for our 2016 CRV. We needed my dads help because he’s handy. He wasn’t really keen on the idea but he came across your video and he was hooked. He printed your plans, brought them to Home Depot and was really committed. We plan to use it this weekend for the first time, just waiting for our trifold mattress to arrive. Thanks again!

this is an incredibly underappreciated and rare skill these days, to be able to teach one's self something. there is information for everything you could ever want to know on the internet in various formats, text/audio/video, explained at all different skill levels; there is really no excuse for ignorance. but most would rather watch 60 second or shorter videos about conspiracy theories and end of the world politics and celebrities wearing less every year (with the notable exception of 2010 lady gaga wore meat)

What height did you need for the legs to clear the rear seats? I sort of thought about 36cm for my 05 Cr-v.
Also the front and back legs can be the same height right? As the floor is flat

@@bnosluoc4830 sorry, just saw this now. I used an extra sheet and made legs the same length as base section, i.e. created a box for storage, so no open sides and opted with either 400mm/450mm in order to clear the back seat when folded/use the folded back seats as support for the middle section. The headrest section folded out with piano hinge and I can set it to lean up against front seats, like a day bed, or lie flat for when sleeping, without building any additional supports.

I built a similar one last year for my daughter's Grand Cherokee. I put a lip on the front of the back platform for the front piece to set on, the front of the front piece sets on the folded down seats. The front piece is actually split down the middle so the 2 pieces can stack under the rear platform. Otherwise the front piece is too wide to fit in the back. And I included the slide out table in the back.
I actually made hers lower so there is enough headroom for her to sit up in the back. She would put her storage on top of the platform when driving, and on the side or in the front seat when sleeping.

I've been slowly buying tools over several years and I'm just now turning a one car garage into a "workshop". (I get kicked out and replaced by a car every night) Some day I'll have a proper shop hopefully but a garage, basement, or kitchen counter works if that's all ya got.

Absolutely amazing Matt !Been scouring the TH-cam/web for a design that would not compromise the storage when not camping and easy foldaway. For a rookie first timer its brilliant ! maybe you missed your vocation ? Keep trucking Matt, much appreciated.

Matt, great job producing this video and documenting a great design. Your details of the bit/piece/parts will make my implementation of your build go smoothly, more or less, I hope. HaHa
In practice, I'll be implementing a bastidized version of your design.
I built a simple platform in my $500 2000 Ford Expedition 8+ years ago and I still have both.
That storage area houses two quite long plastic Walmart bins accessible by opening the Lift Gate but not from inside the SUV. I slept on the right side with my GSD Mix under the same blanket(s). We both stayed nice and warm in October/November in NH but with cold noses.
I must have watched 100+ SUV/VAN builds since then with many of them just in the last 4 months. This one ranks right beside my previous number one favorite and I hope to combine the two.
The first number one is split in the middle but I will offset the split to the right. That side will hinge on the right edge to access storage underneath. This is a great idea when the weather is adverse or there may be danger outside.
The left side will hinge about half way over to access storage underneath while the remaining surface on the left will be the base for vertical storage.
I'll implement your sliding design on the right side. When configured in sleep mode, it will extend to the back of the front passenger's seat. When the front section is slid back, I'll then have easy access to/from the right side rear door.
When the two front sections are slid back, I'll have access to most of the storage area, then all of it by lifting all sections up on the hinge regardless of their configuration. The fit of the three sections may get complicated because of the right edge hinge. Time will tell.
The left side will be for an underneath storage pull-out bin when the Lift Gate is open. It's top surface configuration is yet to be defined.
I used to have a PVC Pipe Frame that clear plastic bins slid into but that's long gone to parts unknown. It was very handy because I could see what was inside the bins and they were also labeled with Dymo Tape. I may just implement that again instead of building cabinets, at least for now.
BTW: Vertical storage in the left rear, even up to the ceiling, doesn't interfere with driver visibility.
Currently, two each 100 Watt Hour AGM Batteries are on the floor behind the driver's seat along with a 4000 Watt Inventer that powers my 125 Amp Welder, 1000 Watt Microwave and any other A/C Appliance/Tool. There is also a 10 Watt A/C powered NECO Battery Charger.
My Charge Controller, Switches/Fuses/Shunt/etc will go there when I purchase a 300+ Watt Solar Panel. I'll need that amount of solar power when I double my Battery Pack.
I have plans for a swing out storage basket mounted to the Trailer Hitch Frame and a second Gas Tank under the driver's seat.
For long Boondocking trips, I have an authentic WW II Jeep Utility Trailer that would double my storage capacity for extra Water/Food/Propane/Gas/Ground Cover/Tarp/Tent/etc. As next year's trips get longer, I may put it to use. We'll see.
I'm providingl all this extra info so other readers may benefit from my experiences and plans for tomorrow.
Again Matt, a really great design and a very well presented video. Really Good Job, Sir......

Thanks for the info Russ. My most recently long form video uses a pretty great swing out arm. Check that one out if you haven't already. It's pricey but beefy.

Hi Matt - love this design, and was planning to modify it for my Gen 3 Pajero, but have lost the plans, and can’t seem to find them on your website. Hoping they’re still available somewhere (sent an email via your website also). The new bed design is also great, but we need the height of the original in order to accomodate a 140cm wide mattress for two humans and a 40kg dog :-)

There’s an input field at the bottom of the project page on the site. It should auto send to you from there.
