    You have very thorough information, which I appreciate. However, it’s extremely important to state at this time that one has to disembark at Meiringen and take a bus to Interlaken. Everyone rushes, the buses are crammed and it’s not fun to navigate with luggage.

      We are in Lucerne now and had our panoramic express train ready to go to make our way to wengen and now we are scrambling to see what route to take . Any insight would be great!

    • @AplinsintheAlps
      @AplinsintheAlps  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the train route between Meiringen and Interlaken is using replacement buses until the end of November while the railways are being repaired. But it’s the same timetables and route and tickets! (We filmed this before the flooding!)

    • @JanPBtest
      @JanPBtest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@starbrite333 Same route, you only change to a bus in Meiringen instead of sitting on the train all the way. The buses are marked "EV" (Ersatzverkehr) and "Interlaken". Your train ticket is valid for that bus.

      @@wailupewahine thanks everyone
      Is this correct then
      Sit on right side of train from Lucerne to meirenger
      Then sit on left side of bus from meirenger to Interlaken
      Then Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen sit on right?
      And lauterbrunnnen to wengen sit on right ?
      Thanks for feedback!

    • @JanPBtest
      @JanPBtest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@starbrite333 Train from Luzern to Meiringen -> sit on the right. Bus from Meiringen to Interlaken -> sit on the right as well (the left-right confusion comes from the fact that when it runs normally, the Luzern-Interlaken train _reverses direction_ in Meiringen). Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen -> sit on either side but left is probably nicer as you'll have the Weisse Lütschine in a better view. Lauterbrunnen to Wengen - sit on the left, and then you'll have to twist your neck backward to see the valley 🙂 Both sides are good as the train turns. When in Wengen, the views will be even better, esp. from the church location there. And if you take the cable tram from Wengen to Männlichen, then sit on the roof (seriously), assuming it's running this time of the year (check).

    Thanks! I left Murren and as I am a driving enthusiast, I drove up to Sarna and then got on the Glaubenbergstrasse, a great road to drive or bike. And stay the night in Entlebach, where there is a UNESCO biosphere type park thing. This had a very off the beaten path feel to it. Which I liked.

    Perfect chance to thank you for all your videos and guides. We just returned from our amazing trip to Switzerland. I couldn't have done it without your help. We liked it so much that we are going back to do the things we didn't get to do the first time. No wonder you live there. I will be awaiting your videos to see which pass is better next year. The BO and half fare card were wonderful for us, but the things we didn't get to do this, are not included in the pass next year. So we will be watching. I do like that Montreux will be included as we do want to go there next year. The guide for the train passes was the best. What a wonderful app to have and use. Congrats on the baby that is due soon. We were hoping to run into you both while we were there, but no luck. Thanks again.

I found the site to pay for the reservation, but they don't show the direction of the train. So, it is impossible to know if I am chosing the correct side. One _important_ thing is when you drive from Luzern to Interlaken and approach Brienz, you'll approach a fork in the road pointing to "Interlaken" and "Brienz". Follow the one that says "Brienz"! The other one will work too, of course (in the sense that you'll also end up in Interlaken) but it will do so by a _faster, less interesting route involving a few tunnels_ along the southern lake shore. The road marked "Brienz" OTOH goes along the northern shore (same as the great Luzern-Interlaken train), it's narrower, a bit longer, going through little villages but offers great views with no tunnels. In fact, until the end of November this drive is the _only_ way to see this perspective because the Luzern-Interlaken train is temporarily not running along the lake segment due to a storm damage a while ago. Having said all that, under normal circumstances train ride is far superior to driving. Anyway, here is that fork: www.google.com/maps/@46.7447037,8.0602808,3a,75y,262.71h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sie-23FzlLbQbvXk4yo28VA!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D0%26panoid%3Die-23FzlLbQbvXk4yo28VA%26yaw%3D262.70627235812583!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTAwMi4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

      Follow the route that is beside the Luzern-Interlaken Express railway for the same scenic views!

    • @JanPBtest
      @JanPBtest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, if you look at the map, you'll see that along the way there will be several moments to select a highway vs. a local route. The train follows the local zigzags which gives you the views but it's more work for the driver. That's one reason why driving in Europe in general is a questionable idea unless you are in a larger group. So the bottom line is study the map beforehand.

    • @JanPBtest
      @JanPBtest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My reply has disappeared (because I included a link, TH-cam is stupid that way) so here is a version without the map link: One _important_ thing is when you drive from Luzern to Interlaken and approach Brienz, you'll approach a fork in the road pointing to "Interlaken" and "Brienz". Follow the one that says "Brienz"! The other one (green) will work too, of course (in the sense that you'll also end up in Interlaken) but it will do so by a _faster, less interesting route involving a few tunnels and a highway_ along the southern lake shore. The road marked "Brienz" OTOH goes along the northern shore (same as the great Luzern-Interlaken train), it's narrower, a bit longer, going through little villages but offers great views with no tunnels.

    • @JanPBtest
      @JanPBtest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, until the end of November (likely) the portion of the train track between Meiringen and Interlaken is being repaired following a storm damage. The temporary bus connection is actually excellent and fast although it follows the southern lake shore route (unlike the train) which is faster but a bit less breathtaking visually due to a few tunnels along the way. But by then you'll already be out of breath visually anyway, having just taken the Luzern-Meiringen train 🙂so no problem!
