  • My Clear Mental Picture :
Is for the Horse to go forward with a soft feel
This is a perfect example of a horse that had quit trying because there was no reward for the try!
It is like having the emergency brake on, you still can go forward and turn but there is resistance in every move you make.
    That resistance produces unwanted behavior.

Excellent video. Today we started working on the same issue with my OTTB. When I shorten the rein, she slows down and stiffness/pushes against the bit.
Great demonstration and explanations. I will try it again on our next ride.

No one on TH-cam explains things like you do. You stand out in a sea of horseman making videos. Your attention to detail and your ability to articulate is invaluable to many. Keep up the good work 🐴🇦🇺🦘

Dennis a lot of horse owners, especially beginner and female owners (this includes me and is just an observation !), would immediately jump to a vet evaluation of the horse. When you get a horse like this what is your first consideration ? Out of all the horses you’ve gotten with a problem like this horse, how many have ended up with a medical rather than behavioral issue ? I find cowboys rarely seem to have horses with medical related behavioral issues whereas most of the amateur horse owners I know have the vet out every other day (again this includes me !😅)

@@PersonalTriumph2022 Veterinarians are a tremendous asset of course . I use mine for emergencies usually life threatening issues and for legal issues . In high performance horses they are often needed for soundness issues .
Now having said that to cover my behind and not offend the Veterinarian industry .
Most behavioral problems are found between the ears of spoiled horses that have owners ,due to a lack of understanding of what to do,that allow them to act in un wanted ways .
Well presented boundaries and freedom between them produce miraculous results in most horses . The one in this video is typical of a spoiled horse that has had his way with people his whole life and hasn’t quite yet discovered that my no means no and my yes means yes .
      Thank you for your question
      Dennis
P.s. I hope my videos can be a good resource for you and others to gain the understanding to overcome these normal issues speaking to you from over 4 decades of experience, thousands of horses from all disciplines and levels of experience as well as working with their owners is what you are seeing in my videos
