  • 1 YEAR OLD BETTA TANK - low tech aquarium - no filtration, no ferts or Co2
    AQUARIUM from day 1 to day 390
    hi guys, this is Micro World
    a year ago i was setting up this 20 liter aquarium (actually 21lt) walstad method.
    the bottom is an Aquatic Compost for pond (link below) but you can use any chemical free potting soil.
    the tank is heavily planted, and i used a mix of easy and medium plants.
    after 1 year not all the plants has survived, but some adapted very well.
    i started with 10 cherry shrimps, then lots of algae appeared so i added some guppies to help out the shrimps.
    once solved the algae problem and some shrimps was about to spawn i removed the guppies to prevent the shrimplets from being eaten.
    as you'll see in the video the vegetation grown wildly, i love the look of this aquarium.
    almost forgot, we have a new arrival, and he'll be the main piece of the aquarium!
    his name is frankenstein, a young koi betta plakat
    hope you'll enjoy the video guys

    Always interesting to see how a tank is working after a longer period of time. There are plenty of set up videos, but not as many of this kind, so thanks! :) Frankenstein has amazing eyes, and seems super active and healthy! I'm a bit confused about the right amount of dirt needed, as I read Walstad recommends having a pretty thick layer, and yet some others recommend only a thin layer of dirt. The later seems to be working for you at least.

    • @MicroWorld7
      @MicroWorld7  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes Frankenstein is so beautiful.
      Today the tank still working pretty well, Actually seems more time is passing the better the ecosystem work.
      About the soil I didn't put much because over a long period of time you'll have materials of all kind sinking to the bottom as dead leaves, the poop of the creatur living in it, the bodies of insects falling in to the tank, if you have scavengers creatures like snails, by digging they will drag this organic matter deep in to the sand, overtime it will start decomposition process and you'll have brand new soil in your tank.
      I had this idea and I wanted to give it a try, didn't find anything on the web about it but it seems to work 😄🥳

      Depends, I change the water when I do a big trimming of the plants usually every 2 to 5 months and I change about 40%, for example the next water change I'll do after this one you saw in the video will be in 4 or 5 months.

    Amazing video!
    I want your help and suggestion
    Bottom layer- vermi compost
    Top layer sand
    How many months does it grow plants???
    Is it worth it or should i just buy ADA

    • @MicroWorld7
      @MicroWorld7  ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer to use an aquatic compost, like those for ponds, but honestly I would try a tank with vermi compost, maybe you can add some minerals like clay to it.
      Sand is the best to keep the bottom layer in place.
      There are fast growing plants and slow growth plants, it depends which plants you use.
      My tank is still doing great without ADA, there are some algae, but notting to worry about, are just few and they give to the tank a more natural look which I love it

    • @MicroWorld7

      I usually change around 50% to 80% of water every couple of days for the first week or two to eliminate all the nutrients In excess, cause you'll have a lots of it the beginning, don't give too much hours of light, start slowly and increase it depending on how the tank is doing

      I added I by myself, they are beneficial for the tank, especially if there's no filter and waterchanges, they contribute to keep the ecosystem to last longer, they dig in to the sand in search for food and to cover from predator, this way they bring all the waste on top of the sand deep down in it making new brand soil for the tank, they are Malaysian trumpet snails

      I didn't steal it 😅
      TH-cam offer a range of free copyright music you can use in your video, there is plenty of choice but most of the music is not that good, I just used a classic music called gymnopedie, which is Satie music 😄
      We just like classic music, relaxing and perfect for an aquarium video.
      If you look around you'll find many different videos each other with the same music, but nobody is stealing here 😊
