  • A review of Cyberpunk Edgerunners from the perspective of a long time player.
    This is my first ever review, lots to improve on and the editing took forever, enjoy! There's a lot of parallels that can be drawn between David and V but figured I'd maybe do a separate video on that because this one is already quite long.

    I'll give one point about rebecca's carnage vs the one in game. She has custom Gorilla Arms that enable her to handle the recoil but we can't have them. We can however modify a normal carnage to have less recoil with Countermass mods(its not as useful on her custom carnage, as the game dev decided to give it more recoil rather than less)

      Tried it yesterday, loved the recoil 😅
      For the past couple years I always install CounterMass first, don't think I will for this one

    I had assumed the phone call issues were because they were recovering from a deep dive. I imagined that the repetitions and franticness was from strain on the mind and the cold ice bath.

  • @kobrax0341

    When it comes to the phone issue in the Dub, I feel like it has to do with the speed of scenes and translations. Likely the dialogue, slang and speed of texts in the phone scenes did not have English or other languages in mind so they had to make the voice actors speed up their talking and try and just wing it with the slangs and emotions the characters would use in those scenes

  • @Borzy247
    @Borzy247 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I thought the weird sounding phone calls in the dubbed version were because of the fact that since you can’t see there mouths moving and that they were talking with there minds, and through that the text gets repeated and messed around a bit

    Heck yeah choom, Thanks for always making cyberpunk videos. Something about playing the game after watching edgerunners just hits different. All the comparison shots side by side that you showed really highlighted how much work was put into the show and was a great chance to show off the amazing level design in the game. One thing I noticed when watching the Japanese dub, was they often didn't use the in-game lingo in the actual spoken dialogue, but it was in the subtitles (e.g saying David's name instead of choom), probably hard to translate those things.

    Grokking V in the setting of Cyberpunk in the lore has to be this bizarre anomaly. A literal solo, solo/nethacker, cybered up to the gills, and defeats Adam Smasher with less military hardware in him. In the setting as intended, shit like this was meant to be done with a GROUP, and everyone handling their roles separately as experts so as a whole you operate as one amazing operation, but V has it all in one.
    Corpo V must have been some sort of gene-modded Arasaka baby, born within the corp to only serve the corp. The culmination of in-house research on how to endure as many implants as possible without going cyberspycho.
    Nomad, or Streetkid V? An anomaly. Perhaps the result of Night Corp, or a rogue AI's experiment let loose on the world. Wild conspiracies run amok to explain V's existence.

    When Kiwi slides open the curtain after getting out of the deep dive ice tub we do see some exaggerated physics. Anyway I like how very little is explained in the anime. Not everything needs to be explained as all the world building is in the game already. The game has seen a resurgence in new players as a result of the anime who will gain additional knowledge of the world and lore. For those who have played the game previously the anime serves to complement the game.

    Fastastic video choom! Guess I'm not alone in wanting co-op so I can form a crew with friends. I think they should do something with cyberware capacity like the show mentions a couple times, they could make it so body effects your cyberware capacity (similar to the sourcebooks) which is cyberware you are able to use safely, something that could be cool is having more than that is allowed but comes with drawbacks like the relic malfunctions or something that messes with the player such as making civilians appear as hostile on the hud or other things akin to eternal darkness' sanity mechanics.

    For me the secret was the game design features ready to be reused. Soundtrack, location, character design features (like the gangs), car design, etc. Trigger did a great job, but in some sense was more "assembling" the components with a good story

  • @onewingedhawk6134
    @onewingedhawk6134 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Imo the biggest flaw of game compared to anime is the game's difficulty, the story clearly hammers down the dangers of night city and how any moment could be your last, but that feeling doesn't translate into gameplay and difficulty, leading to this disconnect. Even at highest difficulty the game feels like a playground for V where no one can match up to them. Smasher being the best example of this issue, there is not much to his character other than being unstoppable force of NC, and when you take that away from him that makes him forgettable. Witcher also had this issue with Eredin.
    I do hope that they look into it and add an ultra difficult mode and general overall balance, but i am not sure that's where their priority lies.
    EDIT :
    Just completed the whole video, you pretty much mention all of this..haha

    • @TheSolitaryEye
      @TheSolitaryEye ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the main issue with Smasher's difficulty level is that in order to play all that the game has for you to do, you have to save him for the very end, and yet his difficulty was set so that you can essentially rush right into the endgame as soon as you're done the parade mission. The difficulty does not get increased to compensate.
      If scaling were all over Cyberpunk like in Skyrim, I wouldn't like it. But smasher definitely needs it. He's the final fight, he needs to be a challenge no matter when you decide to finish your playthrough.

    I'll point out that not every member of MaxTac is/was a cyberpyscho even though many of them ride the edge.
    Also MaxTac recruiting Cyberpyscho's is generally a case if they take them in alive. They generally have no qualms about making the kill if it's the 'safer' option. And the way Norris had just killed a bunch of Cops it's unlikely MaxTac was feeling charitable with Norris.

    I think the biggest issue I had after watching the anime was reinforcing the threat and ferocity of Smasher. Even in the tabletop lore, he's a force to be reckoned and not one to be toppled so easily.
    The anime reminded me of this and only made me wish they gave Smasher an overhaul in the game to make him significantly more harder, and more interesting to fight: To match his legacy as the 'Borg who defeated 2, maybe 3 legends of Night City (Hard to say if Blackhand was neccesarily defeated by Smasher but I don't think it's impossible.)

      @OneDragon  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think they're as chromed up as cyberpsychos and their mentality blurs the line between them and the cyberpsychos they hunt. I think them recruiting cyberpsychos is probably rare because they kill on sight but I don't think they're shown as having things like crazy personalities or kerezeikov/sandevistans like they do in game.

    • @mhosni86
      @mhosni86 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OneDragon I agree with that. In the beginning of the game they let V and Jackie pass and didn't go crazy on them, and in the encounter in Jinguji they were sane enough to specifically target the cyberpsycho and no one else. But they absolutely show psychopathic tendencies when they deal with psychos and when we speak to them.

    i always thought that the phone calls were weird and kind of disjointed because they were calling each other via a neural link rather than voice. you can see in most of the scenes when they're calling each other that the characters' mouths aren't actually moving - and further, there are a scant few scenes where they're in calls and their mouths are actually moving - during which times the repeating words and stilted inflections are gone.
    i can see what they were going for, but i don't think they did a great job portraying it if my guess is indeed correct.

    I saw someone make a suggestion that cyberpunk should’ve implemented a cyberpsychosis meter akin to the toxicity levels in the Witcher 3.. and once u realize it, it seems so obvious to have this in cyberpunk, and it’s surprising to me that cdpr didn’t think to add this kind of feature in.. where u have to maintain ur mental stability somehow and each time u add more chrome ur cyberpsychosis level increases .. just a simple feature like that could’ve handled this seemingly big plot hole within the lore of the game and universe

    I loved this anime so much, but I agree, what was up with the dub phone calls?

  • @baldwiniv8293
    @baldwiniv8293 ปีที่แล้ว

    i think that the weird phone calls with stuttering are some sort of speaking through the mind without being "filtered" one example: maine making out with dorio while on a call with david. all the dialog spoken outloud or "video calls" where someone is actually speaking are normal.

  • @Dampfish
    @Dampfish ปีที่แล้ว

    I just interpreted the fast pace and repeating words on the phone as that being the characters 'inner voice' so to speak; as in they're speaking by a mental command rather than recording their actual voice since you often don't see their lips move and when you do there's much less of that in their speech.

    I think the one thing that bothered me the most was some of David and Lucy’s relationship felt super contrived and annoying. Especially the sort of argument that they have towards the end of the series. It distracted me from the good points of Edgerunners and I almost stopped watching it because so much emphasis was placed on that relationship. It also reminded me of a lot of wish-fulfillment waifu stuff from less quality anime, and the kind of target audience for that. Which isn’t me at all.
    Overall, a lot of the tragedy in this anime reminded me heavily of Devilman Crybaby. Particularly in how each ends. But Devilman hit me harder and it hit first. So while I don’t begrudge Edgerunners actually, and I liked it overall, its overall impact on me was more diluted than for most people it seems. I wish I liked it as much as everyone else seems to.

    The humanoid robots got featured on a music video where we get to know Maines previous netrunner, Sasha. On the topic why V is superior to David. V has the best ripperdoc compared to David's. V only gets access to the more advance cyberware like the sandevistan, berserk or cyberdecks after he got the relic and after leveling up and finishing more gigs since he/ she needs the eddies to buy them. Unlike David who got a military grade sandevistan on the get go even though he has no experience at all and his pieceofshit of a ripperdoc didn't even bother to give him meds for the cyberware to settle in and to counter the effects.

    you cannot visit trains and train interiors in game, because developers cut his feature out! xDDD i mean, the whole metro has been cut out.
