After about 90,000 miles, oxygen sensor failures become quite common. Other than a defective or loose gas tank cap, bad oxygen sensors are probably the number one reason for 'check engine' light activation. The heat of the exhaust gas takes a terrible toll on them. Remember that once the wires are disconnected from the vehicle wiring harness, you can cut off the wires on the sensor, if you need to use a box end wrench, or a deep socket to get a very tight or corroded sensor loose. But the correct size open end wrench, or even an adjustable wrench, will usually unscrew them. You can reach some of them from under the hood. TH-cam probably has a video on what it takes to change one on your vehicle. Don't drive around with a bad one for months because that can sometimes damage your catalytic converter. Invest in a cheap OBD 2 scanner, since not everyone is as honest as Peter. You can research what the codes mean, and what is the most likely fix, on the internet, before taking it in for work at a shop. Leave a note on the seat 'code P1234' so they know that you know a little about what is wrong with the vehicle.
@Toyota Maintenance. Thank you Professor Peter for today's lesson about the P1135 Air-Fuel sensor for the 2002 Toyota 4Runner. Hopefully your customer will ask you to repair the sensor since it's a part of the emissions system and they'll fail the California emissions test if it's not repaired. Hopefully you'll have a follow up on that. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.
Wait I received 2 denso o2 sensors that ohm test at 3 ohms! You mean to tell me they are bad???? B1s1 b2s1. 2002 camry? I replaced and the codes are still on p1135,p1155 . Are the new sensors bad?? They test at 3ohms. Light comes in seconds when cleared too.
Toyota Maintainer! Thank you for the videos. I am fustrated that I cant stop my 2001 4 Runner from leaking oil. I took it to a mechanic but they are not helping! It is leaking from the front and we think its an old gasget beneath the timing belt.
Thank you Peter you are the best. I have a question for everyone on my 2008 Tacoma I noticed that the clutch on the AC is go on and off even the AC is off and the heater is On. Anybody know if it is normal??? Thank you.
If you have it on the defrost setting, or even the defrost and floor setting then yes, the defrost system uses dehumidified air to clear the fog off the windows
@@jayinla228: it’s either with separate brake shoes inside the drum portion of the parking brake or it’s on the caliper itself like on Corollas and Camrys. If there is an parking brake actuator, Im not aware of any adjustments It’s just an electric motor attached to the rear caliper that simply pushes the brake pads and release them when the E brake is activated. It’s a matter of determining what style you have.
Thank you, Peter, that was very useful information.
Thank you Peter. Thank you for the multi meter explanation as well.
Thanks Peter, You can take the weekend off.
Well put together video thoroughly explained what wires to check for la resistance and what the manual calls for thank you sir

Excellent video, thank you very much Sir!
what are the o2 sensor and A/F resistances ? I got 16.0 on my A/F
...thanks Peter for another DIY video.....hope you can do a follow up and show us how you replace the
O2 sensor... :)
Great video!
Is there a reliable place to acquire Denso parts other than a Toyota dealership?
Tiki, I would check on Rockauto they have a good assortment of parts at good prices.
@@Timberjo2 Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this video.
Great video as usual.
Love the accent!
Thanks for this.
Is that the final solution?
Thank you, that is so helpful
Thank you Peter!

Anybody know what the part number is?
You would never see a 2002 that clean underneath here in Maine.
I replaced the 02 sensor, bank one, sensor one and it’s still doing the same thing
I wish I could afford a 2002 it's ridiculous I don't have $9k most finance companies won't touch a 20 year old car..
Good luck 👍
thanks for the vid
Could you PLZ make a video on how to adjust sequoia 1st generation E-brake? Mine is very weak NO TH-cam VIDS.
If it's a + 07 there's some on the tundra should be close to the same. But i don't know.
Just curious, are you talking about the brake shoes inside the rear disk/drum?
@@jamram9924 I'm not sure where it's adjusted

This failed me at 130,000 on my 2009 2.7 taco and sounded like a bolt tumbling inside the engine.
Thanks
I think that's a 2003. I have a 2002.
First to like.
Are you breathing ok? Sounds like your bout to pass out

Very good video!
