It doesn’t because both schools already solidified their 8 game mandate. They both play all their divisional opponents and 3 cross division. This game was both teams was open and probably a better draw than d2 opponents. Which worked because over 20k was in attendance.

It did. You play eight conference games and the other three you can play whoever you want.
