This song was written and recorded in response to the school shooting at Santana high school in California, like two blocks from the studio they were recording in. While they were touring through Colorado, the Columbine shooting happened. So yeah, that’s the intention of the song. Still extremely relevant in the US now.
Two decades later, POD still the best Christian band ever. Music, words, and challenging to every audience. Two decades later, I watched and listened with tears.
There is a very good band here in Brazil too, called Rodox. The vocalist was part of the band Raimundos, but converted to Christianity and founded Rodox, a Christian rock band, they have an acoustic version, recorded for Lual MTV (MTV Moonlight in direct language conversion). Songs that I recommend from this special, which were very good: De uma Só Vez (At Once) Ao lado do sol (Next to the sun) Cego de Jericó (Blind Man of Jericho) Dia Quente (Hot day) Here is the complete CD: th-cam.com/video/EgWy1xBbRoI/w-d-xo.html Unfortunately, there are no English subtitles, but you can follow it on other sites, it's worth it.
P.O.D. gets forgotten nowadays but they were legit back in the early 2000’s. Boom was part of NCAA tournament promos, and Sleeping Awake was part of the Matrix Revolutions soundtrack to name a couple. Always glad to see someone enjoy experiencing them for the first time
Satellite is one of my favorite albums ever and is still a regular part of my playlist. Much to the amusement of my death core metal friends who think everything that's not blasting double bass and cookie monster vocals is trash.
This really spoke to me because at the time I related to the suicide kid and would listen to this song for hours. I'm very lucky I didn't give in and give up.
Columbine happened my senior year of HS. I'll never forget how surreal it was, 2 guys who looked like any other student & they committed one of the worst violent acts in the last 30 years. Now even the elementary schools aren't safe, things have only gotten worse.
POD is always awesome to listen to. I met Sonny a couple times, My friend lived a couple houses down from Sonny (lead singer ) in Bonita, CA. He was always cool with us and didnt act like a big shot, just a normal guy. If you didnt know he was a lead singer of a band like POD you would never guess by the way he acted . Real cool guy. Whats crazy is we had been listening to POD forever way before we knew he lived down the street and to meet him was cool.
I've been lucky to grow up with this type of music, yep those lyrics are deep. Exactly what it was meant to be, a tribute to the youths, for society not to forget the youths and the hardship they face everyday.
Chilllllls chills, full body chills everytime i hear this 🙌🏽 hits different now that we have kids ..dont get me wrong this HIT when we were kids but its just different 🤘🤩😔
Coming of age in 1990s America was pretty brutal. I always thought that song captures the time pretty accurately. Sadly much of it is still true today.
@@carrierumps9229 The suicide rates were pretty high in the Pacific Northwest back then, even among youth. It is sad that it has spread to be more of a nationwide phenomena.
I was born in 1961. I didn't participate in the sexual revolution & Vietnam but, I remember seeing it around me & it had a profound effect on me & the youth of this nation from then on. I love POD! They would have been relevant back then all the way to now. POD is timeless! Nathan Brown...always love your facial expressions. You illustrate how I feel when I hear a great tune that has great, meaningful lyrics. Feeling like death warmed over or depressed....blast some great music & you'll feel better. At least I do!
I remember the tragedy when this came out. It breaks my heart to know that not only are these things happening still, they've gotten so much worse. 😔 Such a powerful song. 🖤
This song doesn't just have an incredible hook, or amazing sound to it, the story telling and meaning is so powerful. Two shots to the chest Told the world how he felt with the sound of a gat Childrens choir
Personally i think the parents of the shooters should go look in the mirror, obviously they fucked up somewhere. Clearly they didn't do their job. If you don't want to raise the kids, don't have them. Guns have been around for years and years before without these shootings, it's the lack of parenting that's the problem. My parents taught me right from wrong.
I have been a fan since the Brown album. Should give the song "Southtown" a listen as the beat is underrated and brutal along with signature POD lyrical depth.
That was a beautiful album way back then. I have small tears cos it was my youth…and yea yea I know it happens to everybody but a moment in time flies by and you wake up 20years later…. And it gone.
Thank you for doing this one, especially now, having just lost 17 beautiful 4th grade children in Texas this past week to yet another school shooting. All those pictures behind them in the video were young people who have died from acts of violence. I love that you appreciated their musical abilities. They are a great band. But that you also got the message behind the music is even more important. You're awesome!
I love seeing your reactions to the music I grew up with…it’s almost like I’m hearing it for the first time again along with you and gives me that first chill I’d get when I first heard these tracks…love your content brother thank you for giving these songs of my childhood a fresh listen that they continue to deserve as they live on forever ❤️✌️😎
Saw POD at buzz fest in Houston. They headlined the side stage and passed on Bush on main stage just to get to the front for POD. Sonny used my shoulder to stand on in the crowd during “here comes the boom”. Great fucking show!
Crazy that you can hear this, alongside Ridiculous ft. Eek A Mouse, and then later on the same album, Without Jah Nothing ft. HR from Bad Brains. POD's versatility is unmatched!
Aww man, I need you to do Fell on black days or Nothing compares 2 u by Chris Cornell, you've gotta watch his instrumental versions he did with Sirius xm.
Yeah this came out in a time when school shootings were happening like crazy back in the 90’s in America. The first verse hits really hard to me since I grew up in that
What no Sevendust? Five Finger Death Punch - The Bleeding, Ashes, White Knuckles. Atreyu - Doomsday, Honor. Mudvayne - Happy?. Nonpoint - What A Day, Statement, Endure. Spineshank - Synthetic. Taproot - Poem. Crossfade - Cold. Trapt - Headstrong. 10 Years - Wasteland. There is so many great songs from this time. Seether - Broken, Fake it, Fine Again, Remedy. All of these will bring you a rollercoaster of emotion.
Sad this is still as relevant now as when it came out. Columbine, Newtown, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Uvalde....at this point I'm convinced humanity will never change or stop being reckless & violent. RIP to the innocent lives lost & families dealing with the tragedies.
POD was so populat and then people found put they worshipped God, and i think that decreased the fan base… which is so dumb because they are so amazing. i was a huge fan to marilyn manson at the time and this exposure was balanced and absolutely necessary. Thanks for posting!
This was the mindset of a ton of kids back when I was in high school. They wrote it off of a school shooting in California. There were far too many happening around that time. 1 is too many.

So true and even more tragic..
I was just about to say this song is still extremely relevant. I wish it wasn’t that way but sadly this country is in bad shape in many many ways.
True🙏✝️🩸♥️💪🏼
Sad that is so relevant today 😞
More relevant today than ever. Sadly.
The lyrics still ring true today even after 20 years...
Facts
And it’s even more chilling to hear now than ever smh
To our utmost shame, it is still relevant.
Thats american freedom ;-)
Like the start to this anarchy

@@-scorpionox- nu metal is better than metalcore, that's a fact
The best mainstream Christian Rock Band from early 2000s. So good no one cared they were a Christian band.
This really spoke to me because at the time I related to the suicide kid and would listen to this song for hours. I'm very lucky I didn't give in and give up.
Same, my dude. Hard same.
This song hits harder when you have kids then what it did when we was kids
THAN... NOT THEN 😎
Facts
Amen. I thought this was deep when I was a kid, now I'm 41 with two 13 year Olds and a ten year old and DAMN ... oomph. You're not kidding.
Truth.
Columbine happened my senior year of HS. I'll never forget how surreal it was, 2 guys who looked like any other student & they committed one of the worst violent acts in the last 30 years. Now even the elementary schools aren't safe, things have only gotten worse.
Such a powerful song. One of their best.
Every time I hear the beginning, I get this nostalgic feeling like I'm back in my 20's

Yep, Same!

Still love this band to this day. Wish music actually told stories like this again.
Alive is another good POD song.
Coming of age in 1990s America was pretty brutal. I always thought that song captures the time pretty accurately. Sadly much of it is still true today.
I would say compared to the suicide rates and school shooting frequency of the present I’m rather glad I came up in the 90s

2024 the song is still fresh for me, I am now 44 years old and listening to this song reminds me of my 20s.
Do you know other bands that gives you such vibes ? Idk but to me this song gives twin peaks vibes

Grew up listening to this. Some of the deepest lyrics I've ever heard and they still to this day bring out many emotions.
P.O.D. stands for payable on death they r a christian band who spoke real truth
Chills every time
The music from this time, with Gen X coming of age in a rough world, you just can't beat it.

Bro went from hearing the song to HEARING the song.
Texas school shooting, nothing has changed, Heartbreaking. This song is still relevant.
To our utmost shame, it's still relevant. Too many people care more about guns then they do about children's lives. it's fucking heartbreaking.
Personally i think the parents of the shooters should go look in the mirror, obviously they fucked up somewhere. Clearly they didn't do their job. If you don't want to raise the kids, don't have them. Guns have been around for years and years before without these shootings, it's the lack of parenting that's the problem. The only thing that has really changed is the nation is probably more desensitized to it after all the tragedies 😢
Crazy bars talking about kids problems, including school shootings. very tough subjects.
Never been a big fan of P.O.D., but this song is great! Probably my favorite by them.
The his song, to this day, goes hard af. 💯
The youth of the nation. It's a very deep song created after a school shooting in California

Can’t wait to see your mind blown by these lyrics. Much love. Cheers
This is one of my generations anthems

What do you mean what happened to him? "Instead of taking a test, I took two to the chest." He was shot. By the kid he sat by in class.
When this song first came out I reacted just like this. I had to rewind the “sound of a gat” part a couple of times
Gotta love P.O.D ❤

P.O.D made this song about the school shooting . It’s about the generation that was forgotten and and not cared about.
Love what you got going! First reaction is always the truth.
