    The reason you're getting noise when no signal is sampled is because after recording the digitakt automatically normalises the audio it sampled when you stop recording. Normalization is taking the highest peak of your wav and raise its level to 0db. Obviously if nothing is there but line noise that noise will be raised to 0db so it's functioning correctly

      this! is getting pinned! Explains the situation very well! I noticed this while creating my Video yesterday - im so "stressed" right now that i simply overlook the Normalization Process - although its clearly indicated in the Screen! :-D Yep, this is important information missing in my Videos at the moment. So this is getting pinned!

      When you sampled the Electric Piano, you acidentally hit another loud sound first. It's important to know that Digitakt will normalize the whole recording based on the loudest part. Because the first sound was much louder than the Electric Piano - and you only kept the piano part - the piano was stored with a lower level than necessary. Not a big deal, but important to know?

      your videos are great as is your clever German sense of humor! How you escaped ski season to retreat back into the Elektron gear world is cool way of putting it.

    This is a great tutorial and very clear for a beginner. Until now I didn't know what resampling is while everybody were giving an advice "Don't be afraid to resample". But actually what do we need resampling for? You showed how to make a single cycle waveform sample from a kick sample and then a chord, but is it the most important resampling use?

    • @umonox
      @umonox  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont know the answer to this question. I see resampling as a way to design Sounds, to make something new from what i already have. Others use Resampling as a way to overcome limitations a Machine has (something like: I sample my Kick and Snare at the same time so i can use them on a single track - and stuff like that). And some use resampling to fatten up Sounds, to layer Kicks and Snares until they are as fat or as punchy as they want them ... there are so many applications for Resampling in general - i dont think that there's an ultimate answer to your question.

  • @kemasolar
    @kemasolar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The sample that you recorded with your microphone... what kind of microphone is that? maybe needs phantom power? Is that the reason why it has soooo much noise in the background? It shouldn't be like that, am I wrong? That would be the reason why is much lower than VS when you record both together...

  • @kemasolar
    @kemasolar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have another question... when you resample, isn't it happening to you that the new sample is a little lower than the actual sounds from the digitakt when you compare them? Do you know why this could be? or how to change that?

    When just before recording, there's "(H) Mon" in the bottom right corner. Does this mean you can choose to monitor in headphones only? If you resample externaly it would make sense as you'd avoid feedback.

    • @umonox
      @umonox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nope, this just means you monitor the Input. But you cant route this to the Headphones only. Its monitored on the Main Outs too.

      Sleepydog H Mon is just telling you that you change that parameter with encoder H.

    Hey. Thank you for your video, bro. I have a question. Can you help me, please? I configure everything as in your video with my Analog Four but when I trying to save my sample and push to any trigger on my Digitakt, I see "Load Error" on Digitakt screen. What am I doing wrong?

    • @umonox
      @umonox  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      idk. never happened to me. try creating a new project and repeat the process. maybe your RAM is full since you have too many samples loaded to the project already? yeah, like i said, i dont know. this never happened to me yet.

    • @funnymataleao
      @funnymataleao 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      umonox so strange. No, it’s RAM is ok and not so much samples there.

      are you maybe still in the "presets" project? the one with a little lock next to it? if yes, you can't copy anything to there because it's protected, you can unlock it in Settings/project/Manage projects, choose the project, press right to make the right menu appear, and then Toggle.

    So should I wait and get the new MK2 Analog Rytm if I want a serious drum machine or get the Digitakt?

    • @myblueextremes1526
      @myblueextremes1526 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're slightly different boxes. The Rytm is mainly an analogue drum synth with sample playback capability. The Digitakt is a well featured sampler with midi sequencing. They both share similarities in that the sequencer is very, very versatile. Hope that helps?

    • @GuitarsAndSynths
      @GuitarsAndSynths 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm well I really need a good drum machine now more than anything else as I already have synths and trying to get away from a laptop setup for live gigs.

    • @myblueextremes1526
      @myblueextremes1526 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Digitakt or Octatrack would help you with live sequencing and sampling for live use. The RYTM can make some great drum sounds and can layer or simply play samples. It has no external midi sequencing, This is quite a good video for the RYTM. No idea what kind of music you want to make. Mixture of synthesis and samples.

      thanks one of my friends that I jam with who also has tons of modular gear and is a master at Elektron gear uses an Analog 4 with Rytm and Octatrack. Another jam buddy has even more Elektron gear like A4 Keys plus Analog Heat and Rytm so I know Rytm is solid drum machine. Jury is still out on Digitakt however to be honest. But for the price, Digitakt seems like a great deal if it does drum sounds and sequencing but I really don't use MIDI for live performances that much frankly to be honest. The ability to feed modular gear into the Rytm is a major plus.

    • @myblueextremes1526
      @myblueextremes1526 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hope I didn't come cross as patronising. Hard to tell what skill level people are at. Just trying to help. Agreed. The Digitakt pricing really makes it real food for thought. It'll be interesting to see how the sampling is implemented on the RYTM MkII.

  • @GuitarsAndSynths
    @GuitarsAndSynths 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow sounds like Digitakt does a lot of the sampler/sequencer functions of the Octatrack but mono is a deal breaker unless they fixed it to play stereo.

    • @umonox
      @umonox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      there's no need for that. the Digitakt was announced as a Drum Machine and it was never meant to work with Stereo Samples! The Octatrack is the machine for that purpose - and more ;-)

    • @GuitarsAndSynths
      @GuitarsAndSynths 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      so would you rather get the new Analog Rytm MK2 over the Digitakt for a drum machine? I am using an MD right now and love it. Or save the difference and get Digitakt plus new Octatrack MK2?

    • @umonox
      @umonox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i prefer the Digitakt over the Analog Rytm today. Regardless of the Rytm MKII's Sampling Capability, im simply done with its analog Sounds :-) Dont like them anymore. The Digitakt is much easier to work with as well, as i dont have to worry about Kits and Stuff. Its closer to the good old MD in terms of workflow as well. If you have an MD UW though and if you want that analog Sound from the Rytm, grab a Rytm MKI. On the MD UW you can record what you did with that Rytm, save these Samples on the MD and send them to the Rytm directly via MIDI SDS! No Computer needed! The Rytm uses MIDI SDS for Sample Transfer and the Machinedrum sends Samples with this Standard too! So you can use the MD UW as a Resampler for the Rytm MKI - and you therefore dont need a Rytm MKII. Unless you have enough money ;-)

    • @GuitarsAndSynths
      @GuitarsAndSynths 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      wow then probably better to skip the more expensive AR M2 and for about same cost pickup a DT and new OT when it comes out or wait for major price drop on MK1 OT? I see major price cut now on the A4 MK1 now that the A4 MK2 is out. Figure the ability to pickup a new DT and first gen OT for just a tad over 1k would be awesome combo to partner with my Microkorg for live gigs.

    • @umonox
      @umonox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      every opinion about what suits better and what not is always biased ;-) music is not a black and white picture, its mostly grey. what works for me must not work for you. your best bet is to try the things out. order them and if it doesnt work for you, send them back. or try them out at your local music dealer. i always find it funny when i see videos from "youtubers" talking about the best Synth / best Drummachine and stuff. They do this for the views, thats for sure. Because questions like that have no ultimate answer! There is no best or worse Synth, no best or worse Drummachine. All of them fit into their niche in some way and its only about YOU whether their workflow is for you, or not. Just play with the options you have mate, try them out and dont care about what others say! Maybe the Rytm works for you, maybe it doesnt. Maybe the Digitakt works for you, maybe it doesnt. You must make your own experience. Because its you who has to live with your ultimate choice in the end ;-) I can only point you into a direction that might be worth checking out. Whether this works for you or not is something i cannot tell you. Try it out mate, just try it out. Learning by doing, so to say :-)

    Very good Tutorial.
    But the Digitakt can't sample in Stereo.
    From the Manual : "EXT L+R sets the input source to INPUT L+R. The audio is summed together to mono"

    • @umonox
      @umonox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep, thats right. But this is for Sampling. I was hoping, that Monitoring/Recording via OB will still be possible in Stereo. But its actually treating the whole Stereo Input as a Mono Sum, not just the Recording itself. and this is what we did not knew before ;-) And thats why i wanted to point that out. Lets hope that something changes with OB here.

    • @eigenstandigleben4772
      @eigenstandigleben4772 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think, when the Sampling is Mono, it's better the Monitor is Mono also. That's a better control to hear, how the sample would be.

    • @umonox
      @umonox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fair enough, thats a good point mate! But some might want to record their external Gear with the Digitakt into the DAW via Overbridge. Not recording it on the Digi directly. Basically using the Digitakts integrated Audio Interface. And summing the signal to Mono would be a disadvantage in that case. But i get what you mean. For the intended purpose, treating the whole Input as a Mono Sum makes sense.

    • @eigenstandigleben4772
      @eigenstandigleben4772 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, okay. Now i understand you. But i think Overbridge will only receive the sampled Track-Outputs. But sure, a Thru-Function will be nice :-) But i think, that will be just a dream :-(

    • @kemasolar
      @kemasolar 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@umonox well, that is not the purpose of the digitakt I think. Of course it would be nice to have that feature, but if you want that, the best is to get an audio interface, I guess. For me it's strange, because I would first get an audio interface before I get a digitakt... and I actually connect my digitakt with my computer through my audio interface. So if I want to record something to DAW, I disconnect my digitakt ;)

    Good work......! I have a little question to ask. A month ago I had purchased Elektron's Rytm, Analog four and Octatrack. Now do I need to buy Digitakt also? Need your input. Thanks

    • @umonox
      @umonox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      have you checked out my Digitakt Video from March? th-cam.com/video/zF-_tD_akys/w-d-xo.html I made some thoughts about the Digis usage here; maybe this helps you out. Its totally easy to work with this machine, Sampling is real fun as you can see. But if you have all those devices from Elektron it might be too much. Depends on whether you do your music with all of them or whether you always just pick one or two.

    • @MBArkestra
      @MBArkestra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a ridiculous question...Only you can answer whether you "need" the Digitakt. To answer more succinctly however the answer is no, of course not. You could make a whole album on just the Octatrack. You obviously have a lot to learn despite having thousands of dollars worth of professional production gear.

  • @FredF78
    @FredF78 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would assume these two gadgets more or less overlap in features right? Unfortunately I think its quite non-pedagogic to sample another sampler. I get it if you needed a quick sound source to illustrate Digitakts sampling features. I mean, Digitakt has awesome library and if you wanted to sequence volca samples, you would just sequence the Volca samples in...Volca? Am i missing something here? :) Otherwise great video, good above angle, resolution and detailed screens on the Digitakt.

    • @umonox
      @umonox  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They dont overlap ;-) Sample Engine inside the Volca Sample is very different to the one found in the Digitakt. But you got it right. I just used it for demo purpose. Syncing the Volca Sample to the Digitakt, only playing its Patterns, is not so great. You have 16 Steps on that Volca only. Sequencing the VS from the Digitakt with its MIDI tracks however is great fun! Every Track on the VS has its own MIDI Channel and (almost) every paramter can be controlled via MIDI CC, so you could spend time, set it all up and effectively use the Digi as a full fledged Sequencer for the Volca Sample in the end. Using these two machines in conjuction with each other does make some sense, trust me ;-)
