I wonder if they were able to recycle that pumped oil. Back in those days crude oil was much higher purity level than nowadays so the tanker may have had some good stuff in it.
This incident was actually featured in the History Channel series Dogfights, namely the episode all about Kamakaze attacks which included a bit about the Kaiten.

Wow...just wow. I have never really heard much of the Kaitens and their victims.
