I was fine with Kinky giving her opinion, but i just kept thinking so many of her takes were so exaggerative that they were borderline lies. Plus her not actually playing the game didnt help.
This is probably my main issue- like sure, it's *totally* valid to give your personal take on a game like NIKKE, but there's a difference between constructive criticism and outright slander, the latter of which is pretty prominent here. Shame considering she's a professional artist, you'd have thought she'd have a more level head about it.
She hates highschool characters but then she proeceeds to draw MULTIPLE ones from Blue Archive were ALL the characters are from highschool. Keep that in minds. At this point she draws whats popular considering her bias to Hoyoverse games and Persona 5.
My guy, she always ages up her characters. I really don't understand how you can see her work and think of a highschooler, no highschooler in the world looks like that no matter how much anime wants to insist they do. I read it and honestly I don't know what's good there, it's like I've watched corn from the 2000-2010 with little plot whatsoever, and bang here you go the corn scene. And the plot with the girl that can change forms and shape shift was an interesting take for the story to take a turn to horror, really near with wholesome experience, but making the character actually fear the creature. The same plot was in manga with slime girl that could transform into any girl and that was wholesome until one day he finds out that slime girl "eats" the girls so that later she can always transform into them. And here you go, more interesting story than "toothless" Pink thing, I don't know why she thinks that's her best work.

The overall feeling I got from her video (and I watched her video a few days before finding this great reaction to it!) is that she wants Hoyoverse type designs over anything else. You know, where there are about 4 body types and everything just looks artificially sterile and safe. Adding to the fact she obviously did not do any research into the story and just shrug it off as "Wah, not my type of game" screams tourist behavior, and on top of that, a massive fan girl of Hoyo games. No wonder she private her vid, because it looked like her chat was roasting her for her dumb takes, let alone letting the entire web have a shot!

She is technically roasting a dead person’s wishes. All the Nikke’s you see in the game were in some shape formed by their past live’s wishes on how they wanted to look like. It is why Noir and Blanc are Twins because they may have looked the same before being turned into Nikke.
Oh that’s true, forgot about that tidbit of lore! Then again, in some cases (i.e. Wardress), it’s implied that they don’t always have complete autonomy in the way they end up looking/working.

While I could understand some of her criticisms regarding things like perspective and anatomy, most of her critiques came out as very spiteful and hypocritical, especially considering what she draws for a living. Also, I don’t know if she was trying to play the sassy Latina stereotype, but as someone who speaks Spanish, the way she talks made her sound very tacky and uneducated (which was kind of ironic when she was criticizing Volume, because what she said about her appearance could be said about how she expressed herself when she was speaking in Spanish).

I understand not liking designs. I understand not liking the sexual aspect. I understand a LOT of that when it comes to criticizing games that have these sorts of things going on. Its expected, its strange, so on and so on. And thats fine But what bothers me is when people judge purely on the look of the overall design and dont even bother to look into beyond the surface level. Or worse, flat out refuse to. And even worse, make up lies or claims that are easy to dispute People are entitled to their own opinion but people shouldn't be entitled to make up lies As much as a cliche as it is to say, the game IS T&A on the surface. That WILL NOT be denied. But get past the fanservice and there actually is quite a lot going on underneath it all To judge purely just for the look of it all, at best, is shallow as hell. I installed the game to make fun of the game for being horny but I stayed because there's a whole epic and wholesome stories in it especially with the younger Nikke that could bring out a bit of tears in my eyes. You could try to play the game for a few chapters before giving your verdict to the game. This is one of the game where you shouldn't judge the book by the cover and it kept me surprised at the time.
She overall just doesn't like the art style of Nikke isn't she. Why did she spend a stupid amount of time to analyze all characters which she fundamentally doesn't like is beyond me. Love your contents Eq!

Played Nikke day 1 and still enjoying the game in both content and character designs. As an artist, her comments made towards the character designers were pretty rude and disrespectful. I get not liking the design/silhouette/color scheme/anatomy as personal pref, but calling them garbage, atrocious, shitty is honestly a new low for a "professional". Just say you don't like it and move on, you don't have to talk like you're somewhat better in designing or they should seek you for design advice because clearly, based on Kinky's art, she's not qualified enough, no offense. The artists working at these studios or are being commissioned by these companies are far more qualified than she is. I also find the anatomy critiques very funny as a lot of professional artists working in the gacha/anime industry draw very stylized/wacky proportions to suit their tastes, that doesn't mean they suck at it, a good example being Raikou and Murasaki's artist from FGO. It's getting tiring seeing these people randomly making assumptions or even questioning whether other artists are using AI just because they don't vibe with the art style. Many of those takes about “realism” in a fucking anime game had my hands in my face. Because SO MUCH OF IT isn’t realistic at all. It’s like complaining About Jessica Rabbit’s proportions. They aren’t suppose to be realistic and is heavily stylized which I don’t get that’s a critique for this game. And yeah the general rudeness of her to the artists really turned me off. It’s one thing being critical but it’s an entirely different thing when she says something like “the artists clearly hated women.” Do you know the artists aren’t women themselves?! Did you not think of that? Honestly I do still like her art and I do still keep up with the streams from time to time. But there definitely needs a time and place. Like the recent hentai tag stream is another case of those where I question why streamers do this. Many people probably didn’t need to know this and now going to have strife with people over fucking porn preferences. It’s all very disappointing and IDK how this will turn out for her later on if she does try to do this again. Cause clearly she isn’t mature enough to give proper criticism without ruining her own damn points.

There's the part before going out into the Northern Region early on where Mustang asks her if she'd think about "coming back" to entertainment, some advise sessions where she's asking about old bands who were presumably her contemporaries, I think some of it is skirted around in chapter 25 and 26 as well? Liter's bond story and iirc some of last year's summer content hints at it. Like I said, it wasn't ever said flat out but it's been poked at in a lot of different places.

I genuinely cannot understand the mind of somone that can see a piece of media that's clearly not made for them, yet say things like "get that out of _my_ game" or "this is just the devs being the devs". Not everything is made for everyone, some things are made to corner a market on specific tastes. It's the same thing as BA, it's been clear from the word go who Nikke's target audience is, and there's nothing wrong with that. Theres always this weird recurring issue where people who dont know much about firearms simultaneously underestimate and overestimate recoil, 99% of firearms will not make it hard to maintain any position, but if youve got some fat its gonna jiggle. Recoil doesnt just magically stop at your arms/shoulder.

Silhouette is not a very pretentious term, if we're being real. For artists especially, its a very common blanket term for "the outline" of a character design.
Kinkymation was pretty off in this video tho. Came off very biased and unnecessarily scathing. She's my favourite artist but seeing her get cooked both here and on her comments is very justified.

I’m going to be 100% honestly with you all. I couldn’t make it through Kinky’s video, I needed someone to also join me. THANK GOD!!! Your video exists otherwise I wouldn’t be able to see are her takes on NIKKE. Now let me go on a little rant here, it’s safe to say that ANYONE who have played the game up until Chapter 6-10 really starts to understands the story behind NIKKE and can truly appreciate it. I also feel her whole stream is just… weird, the reason I think that is because of all the things Kinky said and the mindset she came in with just felt like she’s ether trying to get people riled up (Which mostly work against me, but I was able to keep my self control) and/or she wants attention. Her whole stream just felt being negative just for the sake of being negative, those who say she was critiquing them CLEARLY are wearing rosé colour glasses. her takes were the definition of having a couple of diamonds in the rough i think red hood w/ full pants + unzipped top would just look great purely for the consistency factor alone (she has different reasons for wanting it), or just how odd-looking sin's top is despite it being a better complement to her design and character (seriously tho, real kindness has a very nice charm to its designs in how "restrictive" their outfits are reflecting how they act/what their crimes are) also naturally she simped for elegg (who wouldn't?) i think it's kinda funny to see people get broken over games like this w/o even playing them, it sorta just feels like the kinds of people who havent gone outside for YEARS or at least havent gone out of their way to interact irl, because i swear people like that will abuse anonymity and whatnot to its fullest on the internet, but the moment it's real life they'll never say that because they know of the physical consequences. it's kind of sad seeing people judge something based on prejudice alone without having really played the game a whole lot. i used to not like ultrakill a lot "because it's popular and too shitposty" but then i actually played it and fell in love with the gameplay. prejudices like that are just horrible distractions from the real treats that developers want us to snack on - the games themselves. communities, fandoms, etc. shouldn't get in the way of how someone enjoys a game or to what extent, so long as that method isn't something literally criminal. it honestly felt like she wasn't giving nikke a fair chance the whole time because she wanted to take out her anger from the blue archive prejudices, and desperately needed a scapegoat of some sort. either way, it's disheartening to see someone refusing to give a game a chance just from that also very interesting to know that you worked in pharmaceuticals - if it's not too much pressure i'd like to hear more stories about that in the future (at least, what you've learned from it, i'm very interested in learning more about stuff like that)
Oh boy..."that" stream I un-subbed from her after that video. If she were some other rando it wouldn't have bothered me, but coming from someone whose ENTIRE career is making lewd art of said characters like that felt insanely hypocritical.
Funny enough, I didn't know Kinkymation even *had* a channel until that stream popped up in my feed, so you can imagine how disappointing it was to hear such poorly-executed takes from an artist I've personally enjoyed until that point. Credit where credit is due, she does very good art sometimes, but this kind of personality definitely puts a damper on the enjoyment of such art- like the constant scent of tobacco and tar on fancy clothing.

Anne is one of those designs that I never really cared about...but then Miracle Snow happened. I love Anne. Ngl there were a lot of designs in Nikke I personally didn't like at first.... until I played through their story
@@iAmEquiinoX Nikke is one of my favorite gacha games. I went into the game with the mindset that it's a lewd game, so I wasn't too critical on the character designs. I just pick them mostly from personal preference. I like badass women or mommy/onee-san type of characters so I initally liked Sugar, Mary, Volume, Yulha and Crow (before I knew the story). The other characters I learned to like as I went through the story which is a testament to how good this game writes their characters.

I'm just trying to understand where she stands when it comes to Nikke's art versus her own. What does she gain for tearing down work of others when others can still also tear down hers for the same reasons alone? 5:45 correction! The Nikkes themselves are actually the ones that come up with how they look. They are based on what each individual Nikke believes is the ideal form, not what the researchers think is the ideal form. It's done this way to prevent mind switches because comfort in body = less chance for the brain to dissociate from it.
Oh my goodness, hello Mayhem! I watch your streams every now and then, good stuff! And yeah, that's also true that Nikkes' appearances are mostly based on how they looked like while they were human in order to avoid Mind Switch via dissociation, although this need not necessarily apply to abilities and the relation to the original person themselves (e.g. Wardress). If we wanna go further with exceptions, we'd also have to consider how some Nikkes don't Switch even in a much younger body than their original age (e.g. Liter) or Nikkes who either have no memory of the past or were even unable to see how they looked like while alive as a human (e.g. Anchor). Man, NIKKE lore is fun!
I am truly baffled beyond words how someone can be so completely lacking in self awareness. Every single time i heard the words "this is too weird for me" i sighed so loudly. Hi I'm glad you made this video because oh my God when I first saw her video I found myself correcting her multiple times face palming and doing almost everything I could not to bite my own arm off what really ticked me off was when she said she had never even made it past the first level if you never played the game then why are you here 1. Loli look I get most people don't like it and I understand why but it's nothing wrong with it I understand that people don't like it but you have to come to the terms that it does exist and it's not illegal 2. watching this was great, loved the dichotomy of you overprotecting some of the out-there nikke animations and the streamer being overly harsh and hateful towards the art and anatomy. very fun, and im glad you have a camera in this video, your reactions and attempts to replicate some poses were some of the best bits.
Take a shot every time she says "...but NIKKE devs." Actually, don't unless you're trying to speedrun getting alcohol poisoning, and that doesn't guarantee you'll forget some of these trash takes. I'd have less of a problem with her critiques if she at least sounded respectful of creative differences between the character artists and what she herself prefers to draw, but she sounds so condescending of other people's hard work, that it's honestly frustrating.
I'm going to be honest, when you have the context for Tetra AT LEAST, a lot of the characters tend to make sense cause the "Why not" mentality works a LOT on those characters. And while I had some kinda of weirdness from Anne and Liter (especially the fact that she is supposed to be an old hag) I got used to Anne, she deserves better (lore wise) and I think just giving literary pants would solve a lot of problems that i have cause, like in Poli case i can see her as an adult cause she dresses like one. And the last one is Eunhwa, when I noticed the open space in her legs I laughed hard, because it's so fucking funny and it makes sense for her to avoid restraining her legs movement, and this just made me like her even more, while she is some kind of "avoid mistakes type'o beat", her exposing some parts just to move easier implies that she also has the mentality of"If they are dead first i don't need protection" and i just love this character dude.
The only thing I really hated about it is inconsistancy with her points, Nikke being too horny someone I get. But making points and not standing by them is what really grinds my gear and shows little substances with those words. It's possible she didn't even want to review Nikke but since demand asked for it, she did, but that's pure speculation from me.
I just want to say thank you for making this video. When I saw Kinky make this video I got absolutely pissed from her opinion and literally roasting all the characters and their designs without even knowing anything from their bond story or of the main story. Plus it was hilarious of her saying this stuff when I've seen her twitter and she makes nsfw art of genshin characters. But the main lesson is this: never judge a book by it's cover, because you might get hated on from your opinion. I was fine with Kinky giving her opinion, but i just kept thinking so many of her takes were so exaggerative that they were borderline lies. Plus her not actually playing the game didnt help.
This is probably my main issue- like sure, it's *totally* valid to give your personal take on a game like NIKKE, but there's a difference between constructive criticism and outright slander, the latter of which is pretty prominent here. Shame considering she's a professional artist, you'd have thought she'd have a more level head about it.

I read it and honestly I don't know what's good there, it's like I've watched corn from the 2000-2010 with little plot whatsoever, and bang here you go the corn scene. And the plot with the girl that can change forms and shape shift was an interesting take for the story to take a turn to horror, really near with wholesome experience, but making the character actually fear the creature. The same plot was in manga with slime girl that could transform into any girl and that was wholesome until one day he finds out that slime girl "eats" the girls so that later she can always transform into them. And here you go, more interesting story than "toothless" Pink thing, I don't know why she thinks that's her best work.

@greysnake2903 Have you even played the game? I would have uninstalled the game if not for the story that still keep me in. I installed the game to make fun of the game for being horny but I stayed because there's a whole epic and wholesome stories in it especially with the younger Nikke that could bring out a bit of tears in my eyes. You could try to play the game for a few chapters before giving your verdict to the game. This is one of the game where you shouldn't judge the book by the cover and it kept me surprised at the time.
She overall just doesn't like the art style of Nikke isn't she. Why did she spend a stupid amount of time to analyze all characters which she fundamentally doesn't like is beyond me.

Played Nikke day 1 and still enjoying the game in both content and character designs. As an artist, her comments made towards the character designers were pretty rude and disrespectful. I get not liking the design/silhouette/color scheme/anatomy as personal pref, but calling them garbage, atrocious, shitty is honestly a new low for a "professional". Just say you don't like it and move on, you don't have to talk like you're somewhat better in designing or they should seek you for design advice because clearly, based on Kinky's art, she's not qualified enough, no offense. The artists working at these studios or are being commissioned by these companies are far more qualified than she is.
I also find the anatomy critiques very funny as a lot of professional artists working in the gacha/anime industry draw very stylized/wacky proportions to suit their tastes, that doesn't mean they suck at it, a good example being Raikou and Murasaki's artist from FGO. It's getting tiring seeing these people randomly making assumptions or even questioning whether other artists are using AI just because they don't vibe with the art style.

Many of those takes about “realism” in a fucking anime game had my hands in my face. Because SO MUCH OF IT isn’t realistic at all. It’s like complaining About Jessica Rabbit’s proportions. They aren’t suppose to be realistic and is heavily stylized which I don’t get that’s a critique for this game.

Liter's bond story and iirc some of last year's summer content hints at it. Like I said, it wasn't ever said flat out but it's been poked at in a lot of different places.

Theres always this weird recurring issue where people who dont know much about firearms simultaneously underestimate and overestimate recoil, 99% of firearms will not make it hard to maintain any position, but if youve got some fat its gonna jiggle. Silhouette is not a very pretentious term, if we're being real. For artists especially, its a very common blanket term for "the outline" of a character design.
Kinkymation was pretty off in this video tho. Came off very biased and unnecessarily scathing. She's my favourite artist but seeing her get cooked both here and on her comments is very justified.

@@iAmEquiinoX Nikke is one of my favorite gacha games. I went into the game with the mindset that it's a lewd game, so I wasn't too critical on the character designs. I just pick them mostly from personal preference. I like badass women or mommy/onee-san type of characters so I initally liked Sugar, Mary, Volume, Yulha and Crow (before I knew the story). The other characters I learned to like as I went through the story which is a testament to how good this game writes their characters.

They are based on what each individual Nikke believes is the ideal form, not what the researchers think is the ideal form. It's done this way to prevent mind switches because comfort in body = less chance for the brain to dissociate from it.

I am truly baffled beyond words how someone can be so completely lacking in self awareness. This video gave me great insight into the hypocrisy surrounding the discourse in regards to "problematic" anime that people love to virtue signal over. Every single time i heard the words "this is too weird for me" i sighed so loudly. How in the ever living hell can an NSFW artist who is incredibly niche and also "weird", have so little self awareness to comment on the "weirdness" of a game like Nikke? I just truly am at a loss of words at this point.

This video and your reaction was great and i appreciate it, but wow I think i have a new litmus test for hypocrisy surrounding the ridiculous attacks anime shows and games get from these equally as degenerate artists.
I'm a casual Nikke commander and I absolutely was one of those "came for the plot, stayed for the plot" kind of players. The game is unironically good, and tackles some very deep and dark themes at times in an entertaining way. I am so tired of people trashing on good things just because "it's weird", but then 5 mins later post their own weird stuff which is perfectly acceptable and not weird at all (which it is by the way, all fiction can exist, im just tried of the nonsense).

In my case I was sort of drawn in for some of the designs, specially Scarlet's and Snow White, stayed for the plot ofc, however I think the problem lies in how things changed with time, before people saw the whole anime thing from an outside view and said somth like "ehh, weird or not my type" or something close, now more normies who know nothing about it have entered more into the terrain and started making shit claims and brought their whole morality show while being complete hypocrites themselves, so since before the community was composed of people who simply liked it and bonded, now you have these kind of people who are not those same ones from before
I genuinely miss the days where people were able to seprear reality to fiction and kept them sepreat. Nowadays, it just fucking sad.

Hi I'm glad you made this video because oh my God when I first saw her video I found myself correcting her multiple times face palming and doing almost everything I could not to bite my own arm off what really ticked me off was when she said she had never even made it past the first level if you never played the game then why are you here
1. Loli look I get most people don't like it and I understand why but it's nothing wrong with it I understand that people don't like it but you have to come to the terms that it does exist and it's not illegal
2. I'm going to be honest, when you have the context for Tetra AT LEAST, a lot of the characters tend to make sense cause the "Why not" mentality works a LOT on those characters.
And while I had some kinda of weirdness from Anne and Liter (especially the fact that she is supposed to be an old hag) I got used to Anne, she deserves better (lore wise) and I think just giving literary pants would solve a lot of problems that i have cause, like in Poli case i can see her as an adult cause she dresses like one.
And the last one is Eunhwa, when I noticed the open space in her legs I laughed hard, because it's so fucking funny and it makes sense for her to avoid restraining her legs movement, and this just made me like her even more, while she is some kind of "avoid mistakes type'o beat", her exposing some parts just to move easier implies that she also has the mentality of"If they are dead first i don't need protection" and i just love this character dude.
The only thing I really hated about it is inconsistancy with her points, Nikke being too horny someone I get. But making points and not standing by them is what really grinds my gear and shows little substances with those words. It's possible she didn't even want to review Nikke but since demand asked for it, she did, but that's pure speculation from me.
As the stream went on, the inconsistency just kept growing- this was *pain* for me. lol
I just want to say thank you for making this video. When I saw Kinky make this video I got absolutely pissed from her opinion and literally roasting all the characters and their designs without even knowing anything from their bond story or of the main story. Plus it was hilarious of her saying this stuff when I've seen her twitter and she makes nsfw art of genshin characters. But the main lesson is this: never judge a book by it's cover, because you might get hated on from your opinion. Also if I remember correctly, the designs in nikke are based off of what most women look like irl, the fact she judges the proportions of the nikkes just shows that she's never seen an irl women.
