I really think that Sotek is a Chaos god. Like Slaanesh in 40K, Sotek was born at the height of a period of powerful emotion. Slaanesh was born from the Eldar's debauchery, while Sotek was born from the Skinks' anger and need for revenge. Your friends are dying around you and there's nothing you can do to make the rats pay. The new spans of Skinks are malformed and die in mere hours. Considering how numerous the Skinks are and the sheer rage they must have felt. it seems like the perfect conditions for a god to manifest itself.
The fact that Sotek took the form of a snake (natural predator to rats) and not a seven armed T-rex adds to this. Sotek was born to destroy the Skaven.
Sotek is just a greater deamon of Khorne.
I mean, he has everything he needs to be one, anyway.

@@Visitormassacre The so-called "hatred" is actually a primordial instinct bestowed upon them by the Old Ones. It's more or less their job to stop Chaos. They don't do it out of hate. Whoever "Teeny Weenie" is, they don't "enjoy" murdering skaven - rather, they need to in order to survive the plagues wrought upon the lizardmen by the rat-men. Mazdamundi doesn't actually care about the warm-bloods - in reality, he's simply trying to stop them from plundering the sacred temple cities of Lustria which, until he awoke, had been left relatively unguarded.

@@Visitormassacre You do know that lizardmen don't have desires, or even individuality, and thus couldn't possibly create a Chaos God out of desire.
Sotek may have been a Old One but is either ignoring his children's pleas like the rest of his kind or is more likely dead.
Due to either option the skinks prayers went unanswered and thus the powers of Chaos manifested this new version of Sotek to answer said prayers, creating a new chaos God.
This would satisfy both ends of the spectrum.
The Old Ones left after Chaos arrived. They ignore their prayers because the forces of Chaos would kill them off if they actually returned to help them. So you can't really blame them. If the lizardmen understood emotions, they could potentially manipulate Chaos into its destruction, and thus the Old Ones would be able to return again, and the Great Plan could finally be fulfilled. Now, back to the point: Sotek is not a chaos god. He is the Lizardmen God of sacrifice, and very likely existed long before this as Pg. 80 of the Lizardmen codex states that "The standard is in the form of a huge golden serpent coiled around the standard-pole. Its forked tongue faces the foe and if any enemy approaches Lord Kroak, the serpent is awakened and writhes, hisses and spits like a living creature, animated by Lord Kroak's residual power. It is a matter of great debate among the Mage-Priests as to whether this standard represents Sotek, since Lord Kroak perished many centuries before the emergence of that god." referring to the Slann's legendary 'Standard Of The Sacred Serpent'. Sotek existed long before the Skaven Menace, but he was simply not mentioned by the first-spawning Slann because it would cause issues with mass-sacrifice, which actually goes against the Great Plan (what if they sacrificed something that plays an important role in the fulfillment of the plan?) and thus this particular Old One is censored to ensure that the plan is followed as strictly as possible. It's also very likely that Sotek wasn't mentioned before his emergence because, perhaps, the Sacred Plaques that were written about went missing during the Great Catastrophe. Perhaps Tehenahuin (the first Prophet of Sotek) stumbled upon such a relic (hence the fact that he carries with him a prophetic plaque that foretells the death of the Skaven) and decided to spread the word.
Can't get enough Lizardmen Lore videos! If I could offer one suggestion? You might want to lower your music volume. I love what it adds, but I struggle to focus on what you're saying with it being as loud as it is. Can't wait to see what you release next!
Sotek is pleased
Just had to hear this one again after the announcement.
Now that grand Cathay has been added, here’s a new theory:
Cathay is lead by Cathayan dragons.
Cathayan dragons are:
1. Magical creatures worshiped as gods by lesser beings.
2. Older than the gods, perhaps as old or even older than the Old Ones.
3. Serpent like creature.
As far as we know, apart from the children of the dragon emperor who were posted to provinces of Cathay, Cathayan dragons without provinces to rule tends to wander the world, and when they get lost, the balance of the world is disturbed.
So given the circumstances, could Sotek have been a Cathayan dragon who just so happened to wander to the new world when the Lizardmen were created? Could he have assisted the Old Ones in creating the Lizardmen, thus was recorded as a god?

The rules aren't as good. 40K just makes more sense rules-wise. Otherwise, fantasy is better in every way.

So there was unrest among the skinks because of the cult coming into the temple cities to sacrifice skaven, but they’re little more than automatons? The fact that they have opinions sort of indicates sentient thought. I think all skinks are sentient but just naturally subservient, sort of like ironkin
I read the wiki and the old ones were an extraterrestrial race that chose the world as a perfect place to conduct the great plan and created the lizardmen to help guide the races they would create and remove the ones that weren't part of the plan and the old ones created portals to help them travel easily around the planet but the chaos from another dimension took these portals as an offense and caused them to collapse and the old ones disappeared without a trace I'm sure if the old ones were still alive they would have returned but something must of happened that caused their deaths
They left because Chaos kind of messed up their plan and they figured it out.
There isnt much the old ones can do to the chaos gods. In the warp you pretty much can't kill the chaos god.
I love Sotek as a lizardman god of chaos it truly shows that chaos isn’t inherently evil, as the lizardmen are the bastion against chaos.
Skinks are also described as highly intelligent compared to saurus and kroxigors, and are social creatures, which also sort of implies sentience/ToM

I would love to do a collaboration with other youtubers, however I don't think the channel is quite large enough to entice them yet, but that is definitely something I would love to do.

are the skinks also born from the spawning pools? cause Loremaster Sotek seems to imply that the skinks are another one of the races that were spawned from the old ones.
Yes skinks are spawned in pools and are often spawned in the same pools as Kroxigors. Pretty sure Sotek knows this so maybe it was just an odd turn of phrase.

He does in total war. Though it’s not very efficient to use on him, probably better to bring a heavens priest and use Tehenauin as a army buffer and fighter
It would be a damn shame if the dlc related to sotek made him look like a joke wouldn't it?
I have a problem with that pic... Lizards don't have lips, so they can't "show" their teeth as a warning like dogs... For lizards it's all about color, "I'm red, don't fuck with me" type of stuff
