  • This is a how to video on modifying the oil pump pickup on a Honda Grom. This mod works on all years and all pumps. This is a must if you wheelie for fairly long distances

    Man... use a holder when drilling stuff... I have a thumb with a nasty hole in it for a drilling accident!! Be safe.

    Why not use aluminum tubing and solder/braze or tig just a thought

    • @TwistedGripGarage

      Mainly because this simple solution works great. It doesn't have to be over engineered. I think there are a few people that are soldering them in but for the average diy person, this is the best route.

    Has anyone try this?

    Thanks for the video. How Long do i need to wait for the rtv to cure before riding? It says 24 hours on the tube. But how long did you let it cure?

    I like your ingenuity. If I send you some metal chain gloves, would you wear them? I might consider sending you a table clamp if you would use it for your drill work. Fingers are irreplaceable. Blessings.

      Thanks for the offer. I have metal gloves and a clamp. Just didn't use them on this video. Thanks again!

    VERY nice work! I am surprised this video doesn't have more views and comments as this is such a great video. Did you ever try soldering the copper tube to the pump housing?

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No, I tried to keep it simple as possible for people to do it themselves. Not everyone can solder but anyone can squeeze a tube of rtv... lol

      @mikeoberle6413 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Copper and aluminum can't be soldered together. The best option would be a mandrel to form the copper to fit the oil passage and use an epoxy to seat and seal it.

    what kind of rtv sealant did you use?

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Permatex orange but you can use any that is oil resistant.

    The oil pump didn’t have a tube before ! How did the oil get into the pump before the tube was added. where was the original pickup for the oil pump ? Can someone explain the routing

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      An unmodified pump will pick oil up through ports built into the case. Where the pick up port hits the oil pump is blocked off when installing the tube. Stock pick up is around the drain plug. This mod moves it back

    I’m another comment you said you did this same mod to a Takegawa High Flow pump, what size tube did you use for that? Looking at doing that to mine.

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly, it was .25 inside diameter

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I have a video on the Takagawa oil pump mod. I dont go through the whole process but I think the tube specs are in there.

    Whats the diameter of the tube? thanks. Great tutorial

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So in this video the tube we used was 1/4 inch outside diameter. I'm my stage 2 Oil pump video, I used 3/8 inch outside diameter for more flow. 3/8 is about the biggest you can do. Go check that video out too and you'll see side by side difference.

      Pretty ingenious, actually. $60 saved is $60 towards a new helmet or other needed equipment.

    If you don't drain the oil and lay it on its side, would it spill out?

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. The bike only hold a quart. Plenty of room in there for that to stay in.

    What lenght of copper pipe did you use?

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      About 6 inches. It doesn't have to be exact. Just needs to get to the back of the case.

    Anyone checked the oil pressure during braking with this mod?

    • @TwistedGripGarage
      @TwistedGripGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not. Not sure about other people.

    • @paulhartman7144
      @paulhartman7144 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike I would think while braking your not on the throttle wouldn’t really starve .but I do see your point . if you like to wheelie your odds are definitely better with this mod , if you don’t wheelie I would leave it stock
