18:24 This is EXACTLY what caused my college experience to fail. I felt like I was making progress because the system was rewarding me with decent grades, but I wasn't actually moving the needle in the right direction. HUGE problem with modern university is the illusion of success.
Love this episode guys! A better ending for Jakes story could be, to setup a first act of how you were a “nervous backseat driver” at work, always afraid of making mistakes. and as soon as you took the wheel you became fearless and started making real progress in your career.
best episode ever. thanks guys. forgiveness scale (digital, of course, oil paint over it no issue, acrylic paint less forgiving than oil, watercolor impossble)
Damn, I wish I had this type of access to illustration study back in 2005. Honestly, went to college for drawing and what a waste of time. Teachers were no help. "You like frezzeta? Todd McFarlane? That's all been done before. Here try splattering paint and let's talk about it for 3 hours and how it makes you "feel" Frezzeta and McFarlane are WHY I picked up a pencil. Ugh.
I think it’s a good ending in the wrong medium. If that were a picture book with a picture of Jake in the front with his friends looking terrified in the back, that would be a great ending! Thanks for the great episode and the great insights!
I mean, on that, I wonder if the way to tell it better would be to work on the delivery by learning to paint the picture better with your words in people’s heads and then really slow down to draw out the laughs
LOL!! Have been listening for a couple years now and cringe/laugh every time you refer to older beginning artist "even in their 30's or 40's!" Well, there are a lot of us out there who are coming into our own in our 50's, 60's, and 70's. Even if I only have day, year, or decade doing what brings joy, beauty, and satisfaction, it is worth it.
Please Please have an option of a tiered subscription plan on your new setup I would adore to take your courses but I cannot afford the $50 to do the even the first one😢
We do have a tier system. we have 3 different Tiers. And the cost for even our most expensive one that includes all the classes, individual feedback, and all live events for a full year isn't even 1/3 the cost of 1 college class.

I'm watching Edge of Tomorrow when I should be doing my drawing practice. Guys - this is your doing!!! 😆
It's a great film though, isn't it! 😄

Thanks for answering my question... another great episode!

this recording was really quiet for some reason, with headphones or connected to my car
Same for me
Same here. I'll let Daniel know for future episodes.
