skill set doesn't work if he doesn't develop a respectable outside shot. I and a seeming majority are very skeptical he ever would. Firmly believe Chicago could have been more patient and got a better deal for Caruso elsewhere.
I’m pretty sure most people talking shit have never seen him except in this years playoff. He’s so talented. Basketball fans go off narratives they hear talking heads that also don’t watch the game ramble and repeat it.
Caruso is worth a pick with GIddey. I think they could have gotten another player and draft compensation elsewhere from some other team. Caruso has a very valuable skillset for the playoffs, Giddey is the inverse. Unless he manages to become a respectable outside shooter. Had three seasons to figure that part of his game out & hasn't sufficiently. Is he really a good bet after three seasons to do so, in spite of age?
@@tylito4764 what does their number of picks have to with anything? The picks don't diminish in value because of how many they have. They have that many for a reason.
As an Australian I am biased, but Giddey has been playing out of position. He's a point guard who has been moonlighting as a 3/4. When he has the ball in his hands and is given the freedom to create he is really good. Not saying he's Jason Kidd, but it's almost like if Kidd had been forced to play off ball when he came into the league with 90% of his offense being catch and shoot threes.
Mel Counts was also traded even up for Gail Goodrich. So, he's probably involved in the two greatest all-white NBA trades. Note the Goodrich trade doesn't appear on the Counts BBREF page but is on the Goodrich page.
I too found the Mel Counts for Gail Goodrich trade. That was a better trade than Bailey Howell in my opinion. Goodrich led the Lakers in scoring in 1972 with 25.9 ppg.
Giddey has more value overall but Caruso perhaps has more value to a contender. I was surprised to see no draft compensation sent OKC's way even a 2nd rounder
giddey does not have more overall value. His box score stats look good, but his impact on winning is simply not there. If he doesn't develop a jump shot and if he remains a negative defender, this trade will age very poorly for the bulls.
@@mambaASI For OKC to make this trade I suspect they don't think Giddey has much further room to his ceiling. They're the best talent evaluators in the league and have had close evaluation of Giddey for years. But in a vacuum I still take Giddey over Caruso every time -- it's not about stats it's about talent
@@awennerLike they evaluated Harden as a talent? OKC knew that they needed another good defender with experience and not another offensive guy who is still learning. They have a lot of draft capital to continue to take bets on youth, so eventually they'd have too many young talents like Giddy and have to trade them away. So why not do it now for someone they know can help them win and fits perfectly within their culture.
@@awenner It's not about talent. It's about winning. Caruso has a moe valuable skill set to any team that wants to compete for a title. If Giddey can't become a respectable 3pt shooter. Curious to see how skillset translates to a team without five out bigs + Derozan, maybe.
I love Caruso but he's also 30 years old. The Bulls need to rebuild so it makes sense they got a much younger player. I think this is a case where they both won because one team needs experience and their identity is defense. The other needs to rebuild entirely.
Thanks Bill for calling it….I agree…I was equally confused by the public freaking out…at a minimum, both parties won here…getting Giddey at a low….laughable that people think that Giddey can’t replace Lonzo
This trade is much closer than folks are putting on.Giddey like Simmons said was in more of a weird situation. He didn't even play that bad in the Dallas series when he got a lil playing time. Was just a matchup situation.Plenty of time to improve his shooting.
too much giving giddy the benefit of the doubt as if every single bad shooter/bad defender gets better on those fronts. giddy is ben simmons with no defense and worse at rebounding
This is exactly what I said on this deal immediately. Both teams got what they wanted in this deal, but the Bulls won this just because of Giddy's ceiling. Caruso is what he is. He's a solid role player who would never be an allstar. Giddy has allstar potential. At 21, Giddy could have legitimately been in the draft this year. If he was just coming out now, particularly this year, where is giddy selected? They essentially traded casuso for a lottery pick. Think about it like that, and you should understand why the bulls came out really well in this deal.
As a Thunder fan I can't blame Bill & Russillo for their 'take'. Giddey will be a 18-7-8 guy for the Bulls. Has over a 80% FT%. Giddey doesn't fit on OKC but still a very good player.
If Giddey is averaging 18ppg it means the Bulls are one of the worst teams in the league. There are some players you don't want to be a lead scorer, and Giddey is one of them. He is a mediocre player. Caruso is a top 10 defender and every team in the league would want him.
@@seangaines5863 yep and as the Thunder became better he became worse. His scoring isn’t effective enough where you want him averaging that much ppg cuz it means he is forcing it.
This is a win-win trade for both teams. OKC certainly wins in the near term and gets an instant upgrade to the lineup. The Bulls win long term and team fit/need. They aren’t going anywhere and no one is expecting a 0.500+ team next year. Giddy and White will be a great 1-2 punch to grow together. Love this for both teams.
@@Shortballa11 The value is what the players provide to their team, not where the team ends up. Just because OKC is a contender and the Bulls should be tanking, doesn't mean that Caruso has more value than Giddey. Caruso has more value to a win now team, but he won't get better as a player, and might get worse. Giddey's potential has more value to a team that wants to tank, draft and develop their next good team, like OKC did. This trade rationalized both teams, giving OKC a win now piece since they are ahead of schedule, and getting a young piece with potential for a Bulls team that has been treading water and wasting the primes of their players. Classic win-win, since these teams aren't at the same stage and don't want the same things.
@@shorewall Caruso Player for player has more value than Giddey. All 30 teams in the league benefit from Caruso. That’s just fact. He top 10 defender and fits in. Giddey already shown to get exposed and somehow didn’t get any picks from OKC. Giddeys only real value is we are shooting for the same thing we have been shooting for forever. Competitive mediocrity. That’s Giddeys value.
Giddey’s biggest weakness isn’t his shooting its that he’s a black hole defensively & that was with him playing with great defenders like SGA, Dort, JDub, & Chet……
it's debatable. I vivdly remember all the crazy wide open corner shots he brutally bricked during the playoffs. If that was caruso, okc is advancing to the finals and maybe even beating the celtics...
Defense is contextual. It's about what you are asked to do. If you ask Porzingis to stay near the basket he's great. If you ask him to switch onto guards he sucks. Giddey is a bad defender, especially in space, and needs to improve, but you can build a decent or even good defense if your worst defender is 6'8" Giddey just didn't fit anything OKC was doing on either end once they got Chet and Jalen emerged. But make no mistake he is an extremely tricky player to build around on both ends.
He can defend stand still shooters like a mpj dortz or kcp...he isn't stopping fast guards or strong wings but he is big so he can bother smaller guys and big guys can't bully him and he can match up with certain guys...
The Bulls won and it isn’t even close. Caruso is athletic but can’t do that for long. With the right team Giddey can play his style for another 10-12 years.
You have to look at the salary situation. Giddey will command $30m a year while OKC doesn't want to pay 4 guys big money with Chet and Jalen getting max soon. Caruso is a better 6th man than Giddey is a 4th/5th option.
Thank you! This trade is no knock on Giddey. The Thunder had planned to keep Josh as a core component of what they are doing, but what sent things haywire was J-Dub and how he's developed. His progress, coupled with Chet joining the team, dramatically changed the direction of the team and Josh's fit. People act like the series against the Mavs defines Josh's value. But that ignores that he's been a major component in one of the fastest rising teams in NBA history. Not just on the team...a CORE component! And as you guys pointed out, Josh had done things in his first few years that had never been done at his age by any other NBA players except the elite. That wasn't an accident and I don't believe it has gone away. The Bulls are lucky to have him and Josh will be deeply missed in OKC. Still...we wish him all the success in the world.
I was hoping my Utah Jazz would get giddy. I think we need someone like him and I thought it was possible for the Jazz to get him pretty cheap. I like his game and I think he just needs to work on his shot
The only Chicago Bulls fans who are upset about this trade are the meatheads who think this team has a shot at a championship now that Lonzo is healthy and are still nostalgiac over a 3-month stretch 3 years ago. Giddey is 21 years old and promising, Caruso is 30 year old role player on a contract year. Bulls won the trade.
giddey is not that promising. No jump shot, terrible defender. Just gets easy assists cuz the ball was always in his hands and he's passing to elite shooters around him. And he's bigger than the other guys so he gets the boards. Nothing special. And don't expect the bulls to develop him lol we've seen how that's turned out with plenty of actual promising players. Oh and he's gonna be extension eligible next season lol bulls gotta back up the brinks truck for him before they can even really see what he can do with this team
No promising. Because he isn't, Chicago should have gotten draft compensation in return. I think it was bad trade, if only because they likely would have gotten more/better for Caruso if they had been more patient.
Finally two guys not swayed by ridiculous amounts of recency bias !!! With a guy who has such a great working attitude it's silly to think he's the finished product and not gonna improve !
Finally someone says it. Great risk taken by the Bulls on a guy that could turn out to be an All Star, for an aging defensive stud they weren't going to bring back. If not for the off court stuff, I'd say this is a landslide win for the Bulls.
Giddey is from Australia probably wants to get tf outta Oklahoma City, and wants to be in a more cosmopolitan place. And Caruso is going back to be at least Texas adjacent in OKC. They also seemingly fit better on their new respective teams… seems like ez calculus
Re Giddey & more cosmopolitan location, i would have thought so to (I'm Australian btw) but by all accounts he actually loved being in OKC! Think you're spot on re better fit with new teams though! 🙂
OKC won the trade....they got a plus defender who can catch and shoot, who can start or come off the bench. Giddey is eligible for an extension, is a minus defender and can't make an open shot.
If you assume that Giddey is completely done developing despite being 21, then I agree with your take. The problem is... he's only 21. It's a trade that makes sense for OKC, but I can fathom Chicago ending up with the vastly better player in a few years. We'll see.
The best version we've seen of Giddey is basically Ben Simmons without the defense. I do not see a winning player in anything he has shown so far and for this to work out for Chicago he needs to make several massive leaps in his play Acting like Chicago made a bet on his upside is about as generous as you can be to their front office for this shit trade, especially when you consider the deals they turned down at the deadline and what other teams would likely have paid for Caruso. You're telling me Milwaukee wouldn't have given up more assets than this to fix their perimeter defense? Philadelphia? Chicago should have had multiple suitors bidding up OKC to at least force them to add a pick. A straight up deal for Giddey would likely still be available at the end of the summer, it's not the offer you take before the draft even happens...
I think it’s a good gamble as Caruso is 30 and has real injury history. I think fans overestimate his actual trade value around the league. I think getting Josh Giddey for PJ Tucker is a good trade for a team who needs to reset
I'm with you guys. People act like Giddy is trash. His 3s are not good but everything else is pretty solid and he's still super young. He met a girl who said she was over 18 with a fake ID who was an 18 an over club. even her parents did not want to get into it because they would be liable for the laws she broke. Giddy was like 19 btw. People acting like a 30 year old was caught with a little kid. It was a kid who was apparently lied to by another younger kid. Sorry I'm just not convinced to call someone a pedo for that.
God-like passing. If you go look at highlight reels for OKC for past three seasons, they're packed full of Giddey passing to, well just about every team mate. Its amazing to watch,
@@lachlanbowden1323 fair enough, I don’t dislike giddy or anything I just seem to constantly see people listing this bizarre list of things he isn’t good at but elite passing is definitely valuable
6:30 Not a Jordan Clarkson type. Releasing/letting go/trading Clarkson, with an improved George could be the only missing move Utah needs to make in order to be top 8 west team next year. I would agree with Bill, they could maybe stand to have another forward/big who can stretch the floor. But, that reliable sixth player could be a 2nd year Jaylin Williams.
I like the trade for the Bulls as well. Caruso is a piece for a team that is right on the verge of winning...Giddy would be a piece for any other scenario.
I do not dislike Giddey as a player. He immediately has become the team spokesman. Excellent with the press. He is either smart or well coached. Going younger is better for the Bulls. At the very least he helps us retain the 2025 first round pick owed to SAN. It is top ten protected. If the Bulls suck then they keep the 2025 pick with Cooper Flagg, etc. in it.
This. This is what Chicago needed to do. Giddey is what you would like to get from a pick anyway. For all we heard that Chicago could get two firsts for Caruso, it never happened. Maybe it wasn't there, but also all firsts aren't created equal. The NBA draft usually falls off hard from the top 3, to lottery, then to the rest. Having a good young player in Giddey is what you hope for, maybe not the top 1% chance that rarely happens, but a solid young player with obvious upside in a new situation with more opportunity. People are just reacting with recency bias. Giddey has time to develop, but OKC was on a different timetable.
one thing I'd love for OKC to look into is trading with Bucks - Dort for Bobby Portis. Gives us better size at PF which I think is harder atm to get (ideal targets like Aaron Gordon, Naz Reid just aren't available). Bucks happy to get better on D at the perimeter, and they can officially move Giannis to PF. Think it allows OKC to go smaller in the draft at 12 which I think is easier to find good help. Then all that's left is really to go get a backup C like Poeltl.
It was one playoff series vs. luka kyrie and pj dj lively shooting scoring efficiently like stars and they still could of won 3 games easily...maybe 4...he wasn't a zero on either end....
Giddey doesn’t fit with Okc’s starting lineup. They asked him to come off the bench and he said no and asked for a trade. He’s going to put up stats next year and people are going to think okc lost the trade. In reality, there’s no losers here. It’s about team need and fit. Both teams come out ahead. Not to mention Giddey would be up for extension and no way okc was gonna pay him when JDub and Chet extensions are coming and Shai’s super max.
Giddey’s good and has more room to grow. But he’s not what OKC needs right now. And this is the issue they will likely continue to run into with all these young players and draft picks - you can’t fit them all and you can’t pay them all
It's so obvious the Bulls won the trade. People deluding themselves to hate on Giddey cause it's trendy. Giddey is a rising star (probably not all-star unless in the weak east). Not many #6 picks have that much success by age 21. Caruso is pretty solid, but he's a role player who's 30. Marcus Smart at best, probably a Pat Bev level player. That's someone you trade for a potential star with a 1st. The Bulls lucky they didn't need to add a pick cause Giddey the one who asked for the trade and his allegations suck
An aspect of the trade would also be that OKC could be on the hook for a lot of money and it just can’t go everywhere in the short term. SGC’s on $35M/$38M/$40M the next 3 years. Dort’s a neater $16M-17M the next 3 years. You have to earmark $34M for Chet, $20M for Dieng and $20 for Jalen in 2026, and they’ve would been on the hook for $25M for Giddey in 2025 (and assume $27M in 2026) So you would’ve had, for SGC, Dort, Chet, Dieng, Jalen & Giddey a cap bill of $158M for those 6 players in 2026. And that’s ignoring the cap needed for every draft pick if they keep & use the pick as the years go on.
For real, they are hording, and I guess you just wait for the right situation. But they are a contender now, and if they can overwhelm a team with a godfather offer for a star that fits their system, we will be saying Boston who? Denver who?
I definitely think it's a good trade for OKC, though I don't really feel like another guard who can play defense without really handling the ball is what they were hurting for? I'm with Russillo, they need more ball handling juice
It's days like this that remind me why I fuck wit you Bill!! The Bulls absolutely won the trade they got the better player, Giddy had one bad series &it was really the off the court stuff that screwed-up his season. Josh Giddy and Colby White back-court, that's 6'7 and 6'5, they can trap or play a little zone. And Giddy found a way to be effect in the modern NBA w/o a jumper, what happens when he starts to shoot well??
100% the Bulls won the trade. Imagine being 21yo and being Booed at every away game. Giddey is going to make believers of Bull fans who are going to have his back.
People are rubbishing the trade but I think both sides will gain something. Was Caruso even in the G league at age 21? Give Giddey a chance to play in a role that actually suits him (it was never going to work out expecting him to park out on a wing as a 3&D guy in that OKC team)
Most pundits and channels have OKC winning this trade. But Caruso is 30, Giddey is 21. I see this trade as even Steven. Both teams won this trade, and Giddey needed a fresh start, got a fresh start.
This is exactly what a win win trade is. Caruso had zero value for Bulls and great value for OKC. Giddey had very little value for OKC and has good value for the Bulls
Giddey is already a great player, and he’s going to be even greater with Bulls. Yet OKC got what they needed in Caruso. They need a bit more D length, tho, a Gafford type.
As an OKC fan I think Chicago won the trade. But I’m not completely unhappy with the trade as far as fit and need. Fans trust Presti and I’ve heard Giddey requested it.
This type of trade isnt viable for the "who won" narrative - its clearly about OKC getting deeper and more legitimate in the west playoffs by adding a chipped up perimeter defender, while CHI is rebuilding
People’s tunes are going to change post Olympics when people see him as Australia’s second option and main ball carrier. He’ll average 20ppg 8rpg and 7ast in Paris
I think OKC needs to go all in on a big man to backup or play alongside Chet/Williams. If they can find their Naz Reid or Al Horford and a quick scoring guard off the bench, then they’ll immediately be in contention
Josh Giddey is going to get the treatment Ben Simmons should have gotten all along, keys to the offense, floor spacing, the ability to play in transition. If they move Vucevic and lose Derozan, the Bulls will have a clear vision and good vibes in their locker room for the first time since the Lonzo Ball injury. All they need is some athletes in the frontcourt and on the wing.
I think the trade only works if this is one of many moves Chicago makes to empty out the roster and start again. Otherwise they've gone from a 9th seed to a 10th.
Yeah just let drummond craig derozan go don't play lavine trade him for picks let lonzo sit out to save money let williams go or sign him cheap not long term trade sit vucevic...play white josh and that other kid all the minutes and tank
Caruso needs to be on a contender, he doesn’t do much for a .500 team, and Giddey needs to have the ball more to showcase his skills. Not a bad trade for bulls
If he's the same player as he was last year, ie, the guy nobody tries to guard, then absolutely no. If he truly took that experience personally, and completely changed his outside shot, then absolutely! But, that's completely up to Giddey, and it's what we don't know. For his jumpshot, the form will not work, in my opinion. He will have to completely alter it, which is tough. Lonzo ball did so, so it is possible. But, other players have not, and they still can't shoot.

Caruso is a top 10 defender who has a ring. Giddey couldnt even stay on the floor in the playoffs. its not close.
Giddey can’t shoot or defend but he was playing out of position in OKC. In the games that SGA missed, he actually played pretty well as the PG.
bloke has gotta get a shot
@@htown11465 he's 21. It'll probably happen
@@prodigy513 didn't happen for our other young Aussie friend, Ben Simmons.
@@htown11465 Giddey's shooting is worlds ahead of ben simmons, 34% isn't that terrible from 3
@@thesecretwombat056 definitely better, but can he improve? Simmons has shown he can’t.
Before that Counts was traded for another white guy, Bailey Howell; Howell helped the Celtics win Bill Russell's last 2 championships
Thank You for this take. I searched on reddit and Twitter for someone to say Chicago didn't screw up and I couldn't find it. Agree with you on this.
you couldnt find it for a reason ^^
@@denigsterbecause a bunch of casuals haven’t watched giddey play and are basing their opinion on the off-court stuff.
Reddit and Twitter are where all the professional, cogent NBA analysts are?
@@mambaASIAre you describing Karl Anthony Towns?
@@awennerLike they evaluated Harden as a talent? OKC knew that they needed another good defender with experience and not another offensive guy who is still learning. They have a lot of draft capital to continue to take bets on youth, so eventually they'd have too many young talents like Giddy and have to trade them away. So why not do it now for someone they know can help them win and fits perfectly within their culture.
@@awenner It's not about talent. It's about winning. Caruso has a moe valuable skill set to any team that wants to compete for a title.
If Giddey can't become a respectable 3pt shooter. He has little to offer a title contender because of his lacking athleticism & defensive prowess.
.
The spacing aspect will be interesting in Chicago.
Great trade for both teams
Time will tell. Everyone acting like Giddey is the second coming of magic johnson.
Giddey is done. His confidence is shot
Both win. OKC are closer to a championship. Bulls now have a young future star.
Finally some balanced reporting about Giddey!
@@Shortballa11 they want him to facilitate and run the offense, coby will be the work horse with Vuc and then the young guys stepping up
@@Shortballa11he averaged 16-8-6 on a playin thunder team 2 years ago
@@seangaines5863 yep and as the Thunder became better he became worse. His scoring isn’t effective enough where you want him averaging that much ppg cuz it means he is forcing it.
I completely agree Bill. People don’t take the time to think about the logistics.
Trades are only win win if if becomes equal value. This is not equal value and the Bulls per usual are headed towards mediocrity.
Giddey's second year OKC went 40-42 & he was a big part of that, so you might be surprised! 🙂
@@lachlanbowden1323 we don’t wanna go 40-42. We’ve been mid majority of post Jordan time. I rather tank and get some high upside guys
@@mambaASItoo little
Defense is contextual.
It's about what you are asked to do. If you ask Porzingis to stay near the basket he's great. If you ask him to switch onto guards he sucks.
Giddey is a bad defender, especially in space, and needs to improve, but you can build a decent or even good defense if your worst defender is 6'8"
Giddey just didn't fit anything OKC was doing on either end once they got Chet and Jalen emerged.
But make no mistake he is an extremely tricky player to build around on both ends.
He can defend stand still shooters like a mpj dortz or kcp...he isn't stopping fast guards or strong wings but he is big so he can bother smaller guys and big guys can't bully him and he can match up with certain guys...
he's ben simmons without the defense and worse at rebounding
Bill I hate to break it to you. That is indeed a very hot take
Watch and find out fool
Oh and he's gonna be extension eligible next season lol bulls gotta back up the brinks truck for him before they can even really see what he can do with this team
just awful take
No promising. Because he isn't, Chicago should have gotten draft compensation in return.
I think it was bad trade, if only because they likely would have gotten more/better for Caruso if they had been more patient.
@@aaronpeters6209 In your mind, what was available for Caruso besides a lottery protected 1st or a late lottery pick from this year's awful draft?
@ILikeHotDogs-zv4bqUnfortunately I think that Caruso’s injury history counted against him for a value that included additional pick(s)
Last year I remember thinking I'd trade 3 firsts for Giddey. This past year was rough though. Great move for the Bulls.
This was a win/win. Giddy is young, talented and has huge upside for a rebuilding Bulls. And Caruso is perfect complimentary piece for contending OKC.
I'm a Bulls fan and I'm happy with the trade.
It’s a win win for both teams given the circumstances and where both teams are
Giddey is 21. The shooting is improving, it will become serviceable as he is a worker. Giddey will be very good for Chicago.
OKC won the trade....they got a plus defender who can catch and shoot, who can start or come off the bench. Giddey is eligible for an extension, is a minus defender and can't make an open shot.
literally can't make an open shot. It was hard to watch him in the playoffs wide open in the corners brick after brick
For next year, sure. In 3 years, Caruso will be close to worthless and Giddey will be 24 putting up huge numbers.
Giddey is likely going to average 18-7-6 next season. I prefer Caruso in a vacuum but Bulls need to restart and get younger.
If you assume that Giddey is completely done developing despite being 21, then I agree with your take. The problem is... he's only 21. It's a trade that makes sense for OKC, but I can fathom Chicago ending up with the vastly better player in a few years. We'll see.
@@chrish2112 maybe... But Giddey will be putting up numbers on a 20-30 win team.... Caruso could earn his 2nd ring within the next 2 seasons...
The best version we've seen of Giddey is basically Ben Simmons without the defense. I do not see a winning player in anything he has shown so far and for this to work out for Chicago he needs to make several massive leaps in his play
Acting like Chicago made a bet on his upside is about as generous as you can be to their front office for this shit trade, especially when you consider the deals they turned down at the deadline and what other teams would likely have paid for Caruso.
Haven’t watched a ton of okc but everyone says he can’t shoot defend or finish well but that he’s actually good. I don’t get it
God-like passing.
I'm with Bill
My first response is that Chicago did good getting Giddy. Then the NBA world decided that Caruso was an all-star and Chicago is stupid.
I never understood why people think OKC got massively better. Caruso is overvalued for what he does and is already a 30 year old .
It’s a win win trade, it will just be a while before people realize it.
I like Giddey as well. He’s a future all star.
OKC can't pay everybody; Giddey is the odd man out. if Giddey plays 30 mins plus a game; he will get 12-15ppg, 5-6 apg, & 4-5rpg.
They both won. It's a good trade for both sides.
No the bulls did not win the trade
The modern day bulls! They never win trades. Or free agency. Or drafts. An inspiring, forward looking franchise.
Bulls owner is on the list of worst owner ever. He won the lottery with Jordan other than that he is trash.
I like the trade for the Bulls as well. Caruso is a piece for a team that is right on the verge of winning...Giddy would be a piece for any other scenario.
You… are correct!
Bill Simmons gets way too many things wrong. I'm just about done with him altogether
Good trade for both teams.
Giddey on ball and Coby White off ball is going to be special.
😂
Win win. Thunder are better off for the playoffs next year and
Chicago has someone who might turn into an All Star at some point.
No, if Coby is the featured guy now then you can't allow Lavine back onto the team. Let DeRozan walk and try to trade Lavine and Vuvevic.
Not one for one but Jason Williams for Mike Bobby was a good one
An aspect of the trade would also be that OKC could be on the hook for a lot of money and it just can’t go everywhere in the short term.
SGC’s on $35M/$38M/$40M the next 3 years.
Dort’s a neater $16M-17M the next 3 years.
You have to earmark $34M for Chet, $20M for Dieng and $20 for Jalen in 2026, and they’ve would been on the hook for $25M for Giddey in 2025 (and assume $27M in 2026)
So you would’ve had, for SGC, Dort, Chet, Dieng, Jalen & Giddey a cap bill of $158M for those 6 players in 2026. And that’s ignoring the cap needed for every draft pick if they keep & use the pick as the years go on.
Don’t forget about Ayo Dosunmo, that guy seriously play
Through the last 38 games he was 16/3/4 while shooting 52/43/83 and he can defend
I really want to see what OKC does with all these picks. Do they wait for a disgruntled star like Zion or go all in now on someone like Lauri?
Go all in now because if they wait they wont be able to afford Shai, J-dub, Chet, and another star.
For real, they are hording, and I guess you just wait for the right situation. But they are a contender now, and if they can overwhelm a team with a godfather offer for a star that fits their system, we will be saying Boston who? Denver who?
“Ahh…I love this.” 🤣🤣🤣
I definitely think it's a good trade for OKC, though I don't really feel like another guard who can play defense without really handling the ball is what they were hurting for? I'm with Russillo, they need more ball handling juice
Bulls with Coby and Josh are good!! Great building blocks for the Bulls! Imagine if they tank and get Cooper or Ace
9:55 lavine for the FIFTH pick? Is Ryen high?
If the thunder lose the next 2 years don't keep caruso after next year and don't get the big fish this whole deal sucks
A 3&D that keeps getting moved for a 21 year old with serious potential to run an offense, they won
Mel Counts is Chael Sonnen’s Uncle by the way if ufc fans are watching the pod
Most pundits and channels have OKC winning this trade. But Caruso is 30, Giddey is 21. I see this trade as even Steven. Both teams won this trade, and Giddey needed a fresh start, got a fresh start.
This is exactly what a win win trade is.
Caruso had zero value for Bulls and great value for OKC.
Giddey had very little value for OKC and has good value for the Bulls
Draft picks exist tho, as do the many other, better offers for Caruso Chicago has rejected since at least before the most recent trade deadline
Giddey is already a great player, and he’s going to be even greater with Bulls. Yet OKC got what they needed in Caruso. They need a bit more D length, tho, a Gafford type.
Josh Giddey isn't better than SGA so he's a bum. VERY good take NBA twitterverse
I think it can be win-win. Caruso could be the missing piece for OKC if he's healthy. Fresh start for Giddey with All-Star potential.
The only negative in the entire trade is..."can OKC afford to extend Caruso?"
Chicago definitely won the trade, people are freaking nuts
As an OKC fan I think Chicago won the trade. But I’m not completely unhappy with the trade as far as fit and need. Fans trust Presti and I’ve heard Giddey requested it.
This type of trade isnt viable for the "who won" narrative - its clearly about OKC getting deeper and more legitimate in the west playoffs by adding a chipped up perimeter defender, while CHI is rebuilding
Yep, the teams are at different stages and need different things.
People’s tunes are going to change post Olympics when people see him as Australia’s second option and main ball carrier. He’ll average 20ppg 8rpg and 7ast in Paris
The people who are upset are teams from the western conference
This is absolutely right
I don't like OKC getting better. And they definitely got better with this trade. 😡
I think OKC needs to go all in on a big man to backup or play alongside Chet/Williams. If they can find their Naz Reid or Al Horford and a quick scoring guard off the bench, then they’ll immediately be in contention
Russilo is all of us with the Kuntz trade, or whatever his name was lol.
3:27 "Sam was pretty honest about that." What are we, Doris Burke
I think the trade only works if this is one of many moves Chicago makes to empty out the roster and start again. Otherwise they've gone from a 9th seed to a 10th.
U guys really did a pod on Giddey the kiddie whisperer 😂😂😂😅
Chicago can… raise the white Flagg… throw the season in the pooper for Cooper…
Yeah just let drummond craig derozan go don't play lavine trade him for picks let lonzo sit out to save money let williams go or sign him cheap not long term trade sit vucevic...play white josh and that other kid all the minutes and tank
I think Giddy will get to that 17-20 ppg range while upping his assists too.
Caruso needs to be on a contender, he doesn’t do much for a .500 team, and Giddey needs to have the ball more to showcase his skills. Not a bad trade for bulls
So...Caruso now is the best 2way guard on NBA 🤔
If he's the same player as he was last year, ie, the guy nobody tries to guard, then absolutely no. If he truly took that experience personally, and completely changed his outside shot, then absolutely! But, that's completely up to Giddey, and it's what we don't know. For his jumpshot, the form will not work, in my opinion. He will have to completely alter it, which is tough. Lonzo ball did so, so it is possible. But, other players have not, and they still can't shoot.
OKC wants to be the Celtics so badly. Unfortunately they’re the dollar store version 😂of
OKC does not need a defense-first guard but size and muscle to back up Holmgren. Surely not their last move.
Demar to the Spurs would be sneaky great.
