Hi! thanks for another entertaining video. Judging by the bark on the "trunk" that does look like a Forsythia. They are really tough , and should come back again. I've one in the front garden, and although it competing with a large tree it is ten foot high. I agree with you they are they are harbinger of summer. We say culled in England, or "going into the garden". If I have to cull for food, or illness, I never look them in the eyes, and get it done as soon as possible.
