The cropped jacket is lovely. Oh wow! just updated my over locker! Baby lock Acclaim yesterday. I sold my over locker. Got tired of changing thread and figuring out tension. Last year I upgraded my sewing machine to pfaff icon.
Great plans Cara! I think the pyjama set with the harper will be fab. I really like the shorter jacket over the other one personally, it just looked great on you. Nice to hear about a new sewing pattern, not heard of them before. Xx
Thanks for a great vlog. Love your makes. The purple jacket looks 🤩. I watch a variety of you tubers,I value all that you do and the time you give to share your ideas and results with us. I guess I love to learn new skills, get reviews of various patterns made, seeing how garments actually are used in the context of different activities. I don’t need or look for the perfect vlog. I value authenticity, a sense of humour and keeping it real. Have a great week.
Great jackets, loved the black one over your dress. Reminds me that I have a black satin jacket somewhere🤷Enjoy your sewing retreat, it sounds amazing. I think you do a great variety of vlogs, maybe you could do some more colabs? always great to see two different peoples approaches to a pattern/garment😊
I love your makes as always. I actually tried an industrial at my local sewing machine shop (SNutt - they’re fantastic!) and it went through a huge chunk of layers with ease and the computerised one had all sorts of cool features (like hands free needle lift, automatic adjustment to fabric thickness so you could go from thin to thick without skipping stitches. It was so fast. I loved it. I think it was Jack make but looked very much like Juki and was about £800 I think (which I don’t think was too bad considering how much some normal sewing machines can get). If I sewed as fast as you, I would get one I think. It is one that comes with the table attached, so you’d need space for that.

It would be fab to meet up.
I have had the Downtown Jacket pattern for a while but not sewed it yet. Your two versions have inspired me, especially the black one for something fancy. Not sure I would have the patience to wrestle with it as you did though 😂
Cara, the satin jacket fits you so well and the cuffs make the pattern. Of course, me, being me, I wouldn't be able to resist a bit of bling with some sparkly buttons! Repurposing the fabric for the purple jacket is super. It looks great (although the purple one could have been a 12 I think) and I really hope you do wear it. Cropped jackets look great with dresses (like the one you're wearing) and skirts, like your Grenadines. All of your colors, fabrics (including the draped one) and makes are so coordinated today! As always, you will be stylish and comfy at your retreat. I can't believe how much you've gotten done again. So much fun!
@@sosewmad Good morning Cara. We still have a good amount on our yard, but streets and sidewalks have been dry for a while. It was a bit warmer yesterday and much of what was on our deck melted.I wore the Southbank Sweater dress I showed you and my Harper Cardigan, out last night to a birthday party. People couldn't believe they weren't store bought. It makes me feel amazing to get compliments on my clothes but also a bit embarrassing to be the subject of discussion. ☺ Have a wonderful week!
Love both of your jacket, the black one looks like leather and would add snap to the jacket and the purple one is fun. You are giving me an idea with the purple one and crop lenght. I do agree with you for the colar of the jacket and most of the pattern from P.E. are very well design and the instruction are the best in the biz...
I like both of your PE jackets. Might be a little out there, but in addition to the matching trousers, what about deep teal trousers that match the print you used for the jacket lining? Love all of your sewing plans and hearing about the retreat. It’s been cold here and will continue to be for the next week, so I’m sewing cosy, comfortable clothes. What I enjoy most about watching sewing vlogs, is that every one is different. I feel like you all are my sewing friends sharing your love for sewing. Just keep being your lovely self, Cara. Happy sewing.xx
Oh I so wish you could see how the things you do are just fine and you have no need to apologise as much as you do. The jackets both matches the dress just fine. Id love to see you mindful of how wonderful you are in your craft and own it - no need to apologise for the make, the angle of the camera, fabric choice, not one thing.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉 Loved this video. Your fabrics, your makes, your plans! Wonderful! I won't lie, but I'm so jealous of your sewing retreats. Looks like a fantastic time. But, a trip from Toronto to sew may be a hard sell to my hubby. Lol! Can't wait to hear all about it. 😊 Wishing you all the best! Thank you for sharing.
Oh Margaret I feel your pain! It's wonderful, our sewing retreats are entirely of our own making, also the wonderful Katie who is just a wonderful organiser and human who gets us sorted. It's just the best community ever
Happy new year. I dip really like the short aubergine jacket. I think the black fabric makes the sleeves look large and clearly its the fabric doing that . I always enjoy your vlogs
I agree Jan the different fabrics definitely give it a different look, I really like both, I think if I was to show it with a more appropriate outfit it would be easier to o see my vision for it, I've really enjoyed trying something new x
Really enjoyed the video. I have to say a big Thank You to you for pointing me in the direction of the Tempête blouse. I love it. I actually ordered the Cumin/Teal colourway of the Panache fabric and this weekend finished a wearable toile of the sleeveless one. As I dislike long shirt sleeves I’m going to make an elbow length version with my customary pleat at the top of the armhole to give my fat arms more room. Then with the remainder I think a pair of knee length culottes to make a co-ord set. I don’t like or wear anything but shorts/culottes now - just because - and I’m looking forward to this. I love the two Pattern Emporium jackets you made, I’m a fan of their Smitten one, they are very stylish. I sew all my clothes on a choice of old Singers - Maraflex stretch thread is a wonderful invention. My pair of IAM Harmonie culottes toile were made on my newest to me machine, a 1948 treadle, she chonked through the twill no problem. Keep up the good work. Thanks for doing the videos.
For your black jacket, what about looking up different type of closures and use something more jewelry like. I'm thinking about the ones you can put on capes that can be pretty ornate or plain, with just a hook that catches in the hole of the other side. Your makes are great as always! I can't wait to see what you make for the retreat!
Hi Cara I just love your style and sewing ... the purple cut off jacket just lovely 😊 The black one however not my style or yours I think ... your future plans sound exciting...
It's great to try new things, I think if I share the outfits I have in mind it would be easier for you to see that it's a lovely style on me too. I've really enjoyed trying something new
Happy New Year, Cara, from snowy Atlanta! I actually like your other background. It seems brighter and more colorful. Loved your finished projects! ❤️❤️
Hiya, it's great to try new things, I'm watching others and think oh, they have simple backgrounds, so I give it a go, no doubt I'll be in a different location next time 😅 thank you for your feedback x
I love your black jacket. Don‘t change a thing. It can be so versatile, even as an evening outfit.. I love youtubers who are creative and authentic, show a lot of new ideasand do not bore me with gaining or losing weight. As I do not have pets I am not so much into videos on dogs and cats.
Hi Cara, such a busy lady! I’m getting the feeling that you might be ready to take the leap into becoming a business. Forgive if I’m wrong, I think however that it’s totally do able! I think if you did a Cara on Tour taking a sewing ‘social’ type session once a month in various different areas, did some talks about handmade wardrobes and got a few companies on board willing to give you commission on patterns and fabrics or even a sewing subscription box… it could possibly increase your subscribers enough to, including your fees, enable you to go full time Mad! Obviously you’d need to check with others who are currently in that stage to see if it’s a good fit but I’d definitely come to a sewing social that you were attending if it was reasonably local. I’d also go to a dressmakers ball if there was one near by. I’d consider my closest large fabric retailer to be Abakhan in Shrewsbury. But Chester isn’t much further for me, or even Birmingham. Saying that, please take care that you aren’t burning yourself out and trying to bury yourself in work, I’m saying that from the best possible place… cuz I know how it can be. But if you want to go for it… well maybe you should. Everyone who has met you says you’re as wonderful in real life as you are in your vlogs! xx
Claire, that's quite the most wonderful comment ever. Can I keep you in my pocket as my personal cheerleader when I'm feeling low? Honestly thank you, it would be an honour to meet you at some point, our paths may cross at some point, that would be amazing. Thank you, it's ironic your comment as who knows what is just around the corner! X
I love the PE Downtown jacket in black, that will go with so many things. I have just made a Ressac in Alpine Fleece as a toile to test the size before I used the fabric from beyond The Pink Door. I love the sweatshirt but it is too short on me so I am in the middle of the proper fabric with a lengthened pattern.
Hello Cara! Great to see you again! We’re feeling quite well at our house finally! I’ve sewn 22 bowl cozies since Monday. There to add to Christmas gifts, since we aren’t having finally celebrating this next weekend.
I’m loving both jackets! Olive is one of my go to colors, so of course, I like the Persephone trousers! My sewing machine kept locking up this week (it was new in July but I didn’t start using it until November) so I had to take it for repair. It had broken thread wrapped around in it! I was using 100% cotton thread and I’m thinking it might be the problem. I’m used to using polyester or mercerized cotton.
Thank you, no the pattern is amazing, especially in the purple twill, would have been a super easy make if I wasn't alternating to the black satin that faught me the whole time!

Hi Cara, as always, love your channel. What pattern are those 3/4 length lounge pants and have you done a video about the waist band? I noticed just elastic turned over, is that correct?
Hiya thank you it's so lovely to hear from you. They are called the Derwent trousers by Wendy ward in a book of hers. Yes basically you sew the elastic to the top of the trousers and turn it over twice to enclose the elastic, so simple and quick, I reckon if you type Derwent trousers into the search bar on TH-cam both Sarah and I would have videos about our versions as we are both addicts 😅❤️
Hi Cara. Lovely to have you back. The jacket looks great. Looks leather. It will look great with everything. Love it. Xxxx
Thank you so much x
Thank you for the shout out ❤ Enjoy the retreat, have a much deserved, lovely time away with friends. Looking forward to seeing what you make there x
You're welcome Jess, looking forward to seeing what you make next too
Purple jacket looks good on you too. They both look great with that dress. Clever girl. Xxx
Thank you so much, it was lovely to try something new x
I can't wait to see you at the retreat. Great makes as always xxxx
Thanks Clare, eek I'm so excited!
The cropped jacket is lovely.
Oh wow! just updated my over locker! Baby lock Acclaim yesterday. I sold my over locker. Got tired of changing thread and figuring out tension. Last year I upgraded my sewing machine to pfaff icon.

Thanks Karen I hope you're keeping well x
@ all good thanks Cara, been a busy start to the year, but recording a vlog today finally! X
I think I found. Other channels to watch, after my favourite doing a collaboration together. Being on screen together sent me off to watch and sign up
That sounds like a plan, are there any of your favourites that you think I'd like to catch up with?

I love your makes as always. Id love an industrial machine that would be great
😂 I will be fully LB and Derwent! ❤😂
Yay glad to hear it! ❤️❤️
I love that purple cropped jacket. Looks good with what you're wearing too.❤
Thank you 🙏
I love your chatty style. Very fun video 😊

I love the black jacket. It looks like a liquid leather. Very versatile and chic
Thank you I'm looking forward to wearing it x

I think the collar and the neckline on the jackets look really good on you. 😊
That's very kind of you Tracey, thank you
Cara, I'm jealous. I would love to be going to a sewing retreat. You are fortunate. I hope you have a wonderful time.
Suzanne
Thank you Suzanne, we are very lucky, all created via like minded individuals brave enough to ask and get involved x
The purple jacket goes very well with the dress you have on. I love the sleeves turned back.
Thank you Judy, it's nice to do something different x

@ I’m only 5’3 so I might fit 🤣. I shall be waiting in anticipation xx
Of what’s around the corner, not fitting into your pocket 🤣🤓
I just can’t wait to see the new makes, and pictures from the retreat! I’m so envious of the retreat; I’d love to meet so many of you ladies!
Hopefully we will get the opportunity one day, you just never know!
Ooo that sounds great! Awesome to have tested the pattern before BTPD door fabric just in case ❤️ enjoy!
Hello Cara! Great to see you again! We’re feeling quite well at our house finally! I’ve sewn 22 bowl cozies since Monday. There to add to Christmas gifts, since we aren’t having finally celebrating this next weekend.
Gosh 22! That's amazing, we use the one I made last year all the time, super useful xx
It's no wonder you are wearing your machines out !
Lol I know! I'm crazy x
I'm so glad that it fixed! Id hate to be without mine 😅❤️
Hi Cara I think your purple jacket is a winner! Is it very hard to sew?
Thank you, no the pattern is amazing, especially in the purple twill, would have been a super easy make if I wasn't alternating to the black satin that faught me the whole time!
Happy New year!
What is written on that picture behind you? A beautifull vintage image but I cannot read what the lady is saying. Apologies if my english isn´t that good.
Warm greetings from a
Belgian older fan
Hi, how lovely to hear from you, it's a reproduction print that says ' a lady never discussed the size of her fabric stash ' 😅❤️ thank you for being here, happy new year to you x
Hi Cara. Really keen to try the tempete blouse and the calypso jacket with Maison Fauve however how do you watch the you tubes in English?
Hi penny you need to add captions when you watch it, in other words subtitles. If you click captions then either select language or auto translate, but in all honesty watching the actions is very powerful
Hello I wish I can make pants like that my problem is I got a big bum and I can't figure out what you do I made some night clothes add a 4 in the back and then put the last minute that works but what do you do when you get regular pants please help me
Both Tilly and the buttons and closest core patterns have amazing blogs and videos or stories on adjustments for trousers, I highly recommend checking them out, I'm sure they will highlight the suggestion you're needing, don't be out off, there's a pattern out there perfect for your needs x
