- The relationship between human and House Sparrow began about 11,000 years ago. People began to farm and build lasting settlements. In doing so, they created a new habitat and food source, one that the House Sparrow quickly exploited. The bird changed its body in profound ways so that it could thrive alongside its human hosts: It evolved a bigger bill to crack open agricultural grains and the ability to digest the starchy crops that people crave.
Not all House Sparrows settled alongside people. The bactrianus subspecies kept its distance. It does so to this day, ranging from parts of the Middle East to northwestern China. Skittish and migratory, it forages for wild grass seeds instead of cultivated crops. Meanwhile, the human-adapted House Sparrow was on its way to global domination.

Wij voeren al 20 jaar onze 100 of zo mussen elke dag van 8 tot 10. Soms zijn tegen de winter er nog maar 10 over. Dit jaar is een goed jaar.
Goed om te horen.
