    Neat idea, Keith, especially the modified mortices in the shelves themselves to lock them in position rather than let them sit on top of the protruding dominoes, which would also be OK - like in kitchen cabinets.

    Elegant solution for using the tools & materials you already have! I must admit, when you drilled and countersunk the domino to lock the shelf, I tried to blow the sawdust away... maybe it's time for a nap.

    Interesting idea. There is more potential for inaccuracy and wonky shelves if you don't measure correctly than there is with pins, but equally those shelves should take more weight without the supports bowing downwards. It's always nice to find unusual uses for tools we already have.

    Hi Keith. Milwaukee M12 installation drill with the offset head is amazing for tight situations. The right angle head is also brilliant. It has become my most used drill/driver.

    Excellent. Someone should make steel or brass dominos specifically for this purpose.

      I use 4mm dominoes. A spacer block means that I can put in a series of slots rather like a shelf pin jig. A refinement is to make some dominoes out of 4mm polycarbonate sheet. Polish them up and they can be used on glass shelves.

    I have a very similar situation with built-in shelves. This is a brilliant solution (I didn't want a row of cheap "I got this on sale at IKEA" holes and shelf pins. Your idea is MUCH better than either shelf pins or fixed shelves. Thanks! I'm pleased to see Dylan looking so well. Love your content, keep up the good work.

  • @erictheviking672

    Aren't dominoes quite expensive, making dowels a better idea? Although if you didn't have any, you might as well have waited for the commercial ones, thus negating the whole point, I suppose! Looks like a good idea as it would be strong and the countersunk screws were tidy. Thanks for posting.

  • @oldporkchops
    @oldporkchops 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you think regular dowels would have been just as sturdy? Especially dowels the same diameter as metal shelf pins? They'd be easier to install as they'd only require a drill, which most people have.

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shelf pins are usually tiny, so I don't think the same size dowels would be a good idea but depends how much weight you're putting on them. 6mm or 8mm dowels would be fine for most cases
