one of the oldest surviving mosques and maybe the best one among them is how I would describe it I want to add it was not all built on top of a church part of it was but it was bought by agreement between the Muslim conquers and the local Christians who were offered a big fortune from the court for it then it was all expanded so the church was partial part not the full building and it was purchased too also never to forget before the romans turned it into a church it was an old temple called Jupiter under the name of the god worshiped what's left of it is right outside of it until now few thousand years old paillards stillused

The Great Ummayyad Mosque remains one of the great symbols of the glorious period of Muslim civilisation and its pride. It is a master piece of architectural ingenuity having a decisive influence on the maturity of mosque architecture all over the Muslim World....
Undoubtedly a beautiful place, but one must not deny that spectacular mosques were built on structures of other faiths. I still love this place. If we state this historical fact, muslims become hysterical and call others communal 🤦.

I have a lot of respect for the Islamic civilization, and the golden age of Islam, the mathematicians, scientists, architects, etc. But when you say that the Islamic architecture was heavily influenced by Greek-Roman & byzantine architecture. This mosque is a perfect example. Is has greek columns and Roman arches, and it's decorated with Byzantine mosaics. But when you say that they get very angry and call you Islamophobe.. Even though it has nothing to do about it.
@@ezioleonardo17 come to southern Indian states of Tamil Nadu. Ancient Hindu temples have been changed into mosques. Especially few mosques were created after changing dravidam style temples where carvings depicting hindu goods were removed. Muslims are by far the most easily offensive religious group when truth is sad.
@@MrHitchfan yes I saw many Indian, hindu temples, monuments and buildings, they are soo beautiful. I'm not very educated about Indian history, but I heard that during the Islamic invasion of India they destroyed many temples and monuments, and that many of them were left in ruins. I also heard about the burning of a massive library in India. Also many temples were converted into mosques. I would certainly do a bit more research on that, Indian history is very rich and goes way beyond the history if Islam.
