He's a living legend in kickboxing and muay thai, the world's greatest pound-for-pound fighter for a period of time and a funny, or not, still debatable, army drill instructor. He's also a hero back home.

I’m sitting in a minor town in Thailand right now, and there’s a local tournament every two weeks. Muay Thai is a serious matter, and it is the preferred style in MMA, because those knees and elbows are just so effective.
I’d say the preferred styles of MMA is BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo.
If there was one style that was most important, I’d say it was wrestling, then BJJ, then Muay Thai, then Boxing, then Judo.
I love Buakaw as the greatest boxer these days❤

there was a time when they have to change some rules, coz he's abusing it, like multiple/successive knees and elbows.. they have to limit it for fewer counts.. at his prime he's absolutely a beast, and K1 have a very unique tournament format, like a 1 day tournament, where one would be fighting with some injuries in finals..
Because they are afraid that Thai people will win the championship 👏🏻😌. Knees and elbows are the art of Muay Thai.

08:50 yeah he waas actually trying to break that mans body and spirit and that round he was furious... that was his fisrt win at a gladiator kind of championship where there was 1 night, 8 fighters one winner, Buakaw obviously won but the judge was biased, called it a draw (it was a Japanese judge jsut like his oponent) and Buakaw absolutely made everyone regret that decision
The thing you were laughing at was probably one of the most important and respected thing in this sport.
If you notice what they were laughing at wasn't at the traditional ritual. Those moves he was performing looked more like interpretive dance than part of the standard ritual.

Dieselnoi was an interesting and great fighter. He was abnormally tall for his weight division kind of like boxer Tommy Hearns. He had a nickname of "Mr. Sky piercing knee" because his specialty was to control your head and body in a clinch and then devastate his opponents torso with constant knees. Fighters took weeks to recover from the pain he inflicted and he ran out of opponents who were willing to fight him. If I remember right he won 2 out of 3 fights with Samart who the fighter you just watched Buakaw and many others consider the best Muay Thai fighter of all time. Samart's highlights are also amazing to watch as he was a much more diverse fighter than Dieselnoi. Samart had health problems that affected his stamina, which makes it even more impressive that many believe he was the GOAT. Unfortunately many of Samart's fights in his prime are either missing or locked up because of some stupid dispute.

On 11:15 - 12:28 did you know that the judge actually give that match a draw? That's Japan's #1 Kickboxer at that time, and Buakaw literally dominate him and he can't even fight back, but the lvl of bias of Japan's judges is unmatched, they thought they help that dude by giving him a chance by calling it a draw, so there's an extra round, but all they did was put that guy in an extra torture round 😂and there's many more, Buakaw should've got at least 3-4 champion belt in K1 but the judges is too bias, Buakaw dominated all of them, but somehow he lost twice in different years lol

In Muay Thai, if an opponent is knocked down, there will be no re-entry.
I'm thai and a former muay thai boxer (13yrs). Since our youth we tain our chin (kicks) on hard surface. Our chin training not only help build our leg strength but it helps build Kalisus around our skin and leg bone making our chin/kicks as strong as steel. We're basically causing "scare tissue" to form around our leg bone. It's the same concept when martial arts train their hands on sand bags (punching) to help build up kalisus on their knuckles. This is the exact same reason why muay thai boxers train our chins/kicks and why it's painless to us when we use our leg kicks. By the way if you think Buakaw's highlights are awesome check our our muay thai (Goats) Payakaroon, Saenchai, and Sagat Petchyindee., Yes... "Sagat Petchyindee" the inspiration behind the muay thai character "Street fighter" (Sagat)., and of course check out our upcoming newcomer boxer Rodtang.

Muay Thai is cool to watch but I prefer muay Boran: These 2 arts of combat can be practiced in a ring for sport but muay boran which means « ancient boxing » is above all a boxing with techniques to kill your opponents in combat. Practiced by the soldiers of ancient thailand called kingdom of siam. In the ring at the time, fights were practiced in a kind of open arena, without referees, weight categories or formal rules. Time was counted using a pierced coconut, placed in a container containing water. The round ended when the coconut filled with water sank. Fight until one fall and never give up. Or for rare occasions « fight to death »

Saenchai fights weak opponents. Bigger and taller with little to no experience. Saenchai wasn't the best in the world, he fought outside Thailand, but did not achieve victories.
Thai fight is rigged, 90% of guys they line up against Saenchai are inexperienced. I lived and trained in Thailand for 8 years and Thai fight was always ready to take foreign fighters as cannon Fodder! Especially the weak a released to raise his rating.

I don't think they laughed in a mocking way. It felt like they laughed when they imagined using it in a street fight. You don't have to find offense in everything and you don't control other people's reactions. A laugh or smile can mean many things. Thai people smile to shield all sorts of emotions, positive and negative.
