Wonderful arrangement of a wonderful song. Just bought the album the other day and can't get this tune out of my head. It's a surprise it's not one of the more popular songs on Gaucho although all are excellent. Keep playing dude!

Thanks! You mean how long it took me to come up with the actual fingerings? Perhaps 20 minutes. BUT - I have known this song in my head for many years which really made a difference in terms of feeling the song as opposed to learning something completely new.

This is my favorite song of Steely Dan.Actually it is part of my life since 1980.Recently I found out the Gaucho Outtakes on youtube where Gaucho is played with no voices only the musicians on studio which we can perceive how harmonically beautiful this song is. I think it is Donald and Walter's masterpiece. Jake, I loved your playing, it has touched me a lot. You give another dimension to this song. I would really like to play so beautifully like you. Thanks, Phil! This was a little atypical for me, too much memorizing and less relying on improvisation, I almost "lost" it several times... Also, just as soon as I finished recording, I immediately regretted not playing this in E because I would have gotten some nice fat chords during the chorus. But that's also like me, just jump on the tune and play it without too much planning :-) I'm in Michigan so not sure how likely we are to meet... Maybe if I come to the UK we could hook up...

Great stuff Jake. Not an easy tune to deconstruct, but you have succeeded admirably. The voicings are not really suited to my style of playing. but the Dan were my first love. I would love to hear you do 'Turn That Heartbeat Over Again' from 'Can't Buy A Thrill'. I had a go at 'Josie' on here. Listen to it and tell me where you think I could improve it. If it it means anything, I am coming over to the States in April to play some East Coast Coffee Houses. Keep in touch. All the best

Since that time I have received countless requests to produce a video lesson for it. So here it finally is, a TWO HOUR widescreen lesson (available either by DVD or download)!
