I love his use of cymbals to tell the musical story. That's one of the reasons I love Anika Nilles and Johnny Rabb. Not only can they create a groove with kick and snare, it's peppered all over with creative cymbal voices. Annnnndddd, again, Meinl should start producing albums. Take the engineers of your recents vids, open your own studio to the public, and focus on creating a new direction in drum recording because the way you guy make the drums shine in the mix is awsum! I'm a metal head though, I would like to see what you can do with a metal mix
Im trying to learn how to do more ofbthat versus just crashing on one all the time. My favorite person who does this is Sleep Token's drummer. They actually just shared the stage together. Theres no vids of just him though. Only concert vids

@@wassimsehibi8724 I disagree. What he does is unique, not necessarily anything out of the realm of possibility. I'm sure plenty of drummers who don't exactly follow his style can play what how he does.
I don't want this to be taken as discrediting Clays talent though. The dude is a monster, and his style is definitely one of the most unique I've seen.

Anthony Michael Applegate no he didnt, but he did tours for the album with polyphia so he knows all of the songs
Yeah he didn’t write the drum parts for them but he does play them live when they tour (and really well, too).
Anthony Michael Applegate seem em live 4 times and honestly he adds new elements to the rhythm section on the old songs that are so tasty. Brandon’s writing on renaissance was the peak of their drum style in my opinion, but clay adds little nuances here and there that brings a whole new dimension into the mix. fantastic band
I love the specific Polyphia sound so much. I love when they branch out as well but there's a lot of nostalgia for me in this style.
This guy is such is having a blast while playing, that's what makes his style so enjoyable and unique.

Polyphia is the best technical band and in my opinion the future of technical/prog music. Clay is the most talented member of the band, by far, without question. His live performances are proof positive, he's the best drummer I've seen in so many years.

Watching these playthroughs makes me like the studio albums less and less. Why hide this man's talent to sound more hip hop or whatever they're trying to go for? I love hip hop, just don't think it works here.
It's disgusting how buried and muted the drums are they way they mix them. They should release both versions of every song from now on. Talented group, but don't like the overprocessed sound the studios produce.
Icronic is from TMH, where they experimenting new sound. Their NLND tracks have better drum sound. Pardon my english, not my first language

I've always wondered what mics are they using in these videos? Does anyone know?
They have an SM7B with the pop filter removed on the hi-hat, AKG C414 XLS for overheads, SM57 top snare (or a similar AKG dynamic mic), some sort of AKG small diaphragm for the ride,
I can't tell exactly what the toms are mic'ed with I'm not that familiar with them as we don't have them in the studio I work in
The kick if I had to guess would have at least 2 mics on it, if not three. You'd be looking at something like a Beta52 stuck in the Resonance head hole on the front at a 45 or so degree angle. This records the attack of the kick
Then something like a ribbon mic or large diaphragm condenser like a Royer or something to get the resonance of the head. You could then put another ribbon or large condenser a few feet back close to the ground to get more kick, but that depends on the studio and space (we don't do that where I work usually).
There's definitely some sweet room mic's set up, you can see one in the back right-hand corner of the room getting that nice room sound. Probably ball-parked around 3 or 4 room mic's set up to get this full of a sound, some pointed at walls and some at the drum kit. No clue what it is though, it looks like a large diaphragm condenser although someone will probably correct me. There's probably another overhead out of shot that could be along the lines of an AEA R88, although it looks like they didn't mic the bottom of the toms which leads me to believe that the studio this is shot in doesn't have a ton of Mics so there may not be a third overhead.
TL:DR lots of mics.
The kick if I were to guess is mic'ed with at least 2 mics, one in the hole of the resonance head
