Mapo Tofu from Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma | Anime Food IRL

Join me as I recreate the electrifying Mapo Tofu dish from Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma! 🍲✨ Let's dive into this spicy and savory adventure together!
This recipe is basically a Mapo Tofu hack! My mom taught me to use sambal for quicker prep and for those who like spicy but not the numbing powers of Ma La from the Sichuan Pepper corns. Check out the ingredient list for substitutions to make it extra spicy and full of Ma La power!

Ingredients:
2 stalks green onion, finely chopped
1 block (14 ounces) Soft Tofu, diced into 1-1.5 inch cubes
8 ounces ground pork
1.5 tablespoons dark soy sauce, plus more for seasoning if desired
1 teaspoon ground white pepper
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for seasoning if desired
1 tablespoon grapeseed oil or any neutral cooking oil
1-2 tablespoons sambal, plus more if you like it extra spicy
1 1/4 cups water
1 tablespoon corn starch
1.5 tablespoons water
Steamed white rice, for serving
For Spice Lovers:
Instead of ground white pepper use 1-2 teaspoons of ground Sichuan peppercorns and 1-2 tablespoons of cracked, whole red Sichuan pepper corns. To make things less intense, I suggest adding the ground Sichuan pepper into the sauce and not the ground pork!
Sometimes we add Thai Bird Chiles too just for an extra kick~
