  • In this video we visited Jurassic Mountain Resort & Fishing Park in Cha-am.
With a 2-day session I wanted to see some different fish than last time so set out with the aim of having a predator day and a 2nd day where I would try for a Mekong. On the first day I drew ball number 10 so by the time it came to my choice of swim I had only swim 7 and 1 left. I went 7 as I fished 16 last time directly opposite 1. Was not the best choice of swims. Peg 7 and 5 can be tricky pegs to fish and that added to a day where the left side of the lake wasn’t preforming well resulted in only 2 fish all day.
On to day 2 and the Mekong day. I fished ram up in the water and was hard at it casting to the same spot to try and build the swim and hopefully hook a Mekong. In 8-9 years, Jurassic has been open there has only been 2 Mekong caught. I wanted to add my name to the list. Well as we know all good plans often don’t work out. I did see a Mekong, but it was Danny who hooked it fishing ram on the bottom with his hook popped up using zig rig foam. Still a massive achievement for Danny to beat his personal best carp on the Saturday followed by adding his name to the Mekong list as only the 3rd person to ever land one.
If you are interested in finding out more about this venue than take a look at their website www.jurassicfishingthailand.com/ here you will find everything you could need. The venue is 2 ½ to 3 hours from Bangkok in normal traffic conditions so not too far and is also close to Huahin a popular beach town.
Check out Richards Google page with information about more fishing lakes around Bangkok.

Hey mate! With Jurassic being a "small" lake, why do they use long rods? Wouldn't 6-7ft rods be ok?

I believe they do it because the Thai style of rods for Mekong catfish are short and very strong and they worry about pulling the hooks unnecessarily and damaging the carp’s mouth. By saying a 10ft minimum the 10ft rods here tend to have a lot more flex, so the fight is a bit softer. If I was given the choice, I would rather fish with a 9 or 8ft rod but it’s their lake and their rules.
