      Especially because we are used to watching stuff from that era via captures of worn out VHS tapes. Or computer tv tuner captures made back then. This is probably taken from the original source material, and, yes, the difference is shocking.

    At least C-net filmed with a good camera for the time, usually archive footage like this looks as if its been through 6 VHS'.

    • @Steveos312
      @Steveos312 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      CNET (officially spelled with all caps with no characters) didn't use a single camera. Not only that - they used videotape not "film". From your comment, you're not familiar to ENG/EFP productions.
      In the mid 90s, their program was shot with multi cameras similar to a news/talk setup. You had multiple cameras and a technical director to cut between cameras. Taped packages were done on primitive Avid workstations. Their production was broadcast quality at the time since prosumer (now technology for streaming or for Web only) was ether cost prohibitive or not existent at the time. It was no different than any other ENG/EFP production done at that time. And all major programming in the US for over a generation was dubbed onto Betacam format (which makes the footage not look like VHS quality.)

By the late 90s, you could start getting mp3s online, but a dial-up connection saw you taking the whole night to download one album. and no one better pick up the phone, either!

    I really miss this era of home computing. PC's were becoming more mainstream but weren't nearly as commonplace as today. People didn't have computers in the form of smart phones in their pocket, laptops were still pretty bulky, and desktops ruled the market. Beige towers, landlines and dial up internet, a lot of websites were mostly text and simple graphics. Then towards the end of the 90s we got great games like counterstrike, starcraft, etc. Going to lan parties with your friends, pulling all nighters, then crashing the next day.
    It's almost like too much of a good thing now. Everywhere you look, there's smart phones, tablets, laptops, and even computers embedded into random shit like refrigerators. Everything felt more balanced back then to me.

  • @Lachlant1984

    In late 1995 my father bought his first PC and it had Windows 95 on it, oh the memories of spending hours playing around with Microsoft Dangerous Creatures and playing Rise Of The Triad with Dad. Then I found a demo CD of shareware DOS games which came bundled with Dad's PC, lots of classics were on there and I'd spend so much time playing them, mostly I'd play the Apogee Software releases. Windows 95 had its good points, but it had some real problems too, for one thing it was so very unstable, something would always go wrong and the system would frequently crash or you'd get some other error message. But there are times when I'd love to go back to the days of Windows 95, because back then there were no social networks like Facebook, but of course then you had bulletin board systems and newsgroups, back then it was much harder to come into contact with people who'd start drama on the Internet and cause you problems, sadly this happens all too frequently these days. When that sort of stuff happens, I wish I could replace my iMac with a 20 year old 486 or Pentium PC with Windows 95 on it and plenty of games, then I'd be set for life.
