  • Yay. I used to hate her on floor. Wish this was a keeper for EF, she doesn't do any "cheap" tumbling even if the triple is really ugly but it's her only big twisting pass.

    Catalina has been doing similar tumblings since 2004 (but who completely changes them anyway over a 12 year career) but she's always chosen unusual musics and her dance routines are always so pleasant to watch. She's always been graceful, powerful, sensual and artistic. Hope she continues until she's 40.

    Katalina - Bravo! I miss the gymnasts of her and previous generations when gymnastics were truly beautiful and graceful: Ponor, Amanar, Milosovich, Horkina, Podkapaeva, and many others! Thank you, Katalina for your contributions to the sport of gymnastics! You will be always remembered as one of the greatest gymnasts in the world history!

    For 6 months back and at her age, it's truly amazing and quite a testament what she was able to do at the Worlds. Though there were some minor issues with her form during the tumbling runs, her music choice, edits and choreography/dance were the best of the competition. It all flowed so well together.

    I actually don't think Ponor is the most graceful or artistic floor worker. What makes her stand out from the other great tumblers is that she is very self-aware. You are always getting a little bit of her in her routines, even if the choreography doesn't adequately express it. It redeems what might otherwise be an impressive, but forgettable, floor routine. And she, along with Mustafina, is such a role model for how to make a successful comeback.

    • @MsJubjubbird
      @MsJubjubbird 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      withlove312 That and shes very strong and in control. Technically there are errors but it's rare that you'll see her completely lose it on an element. Even when she was 16 or 17 she just was really solid.

    She still got a bronze medal in the 2005 Worlds on beam, and qualified first into the 2007 World beam final (score of 16,250) and got a bronze with the team after Kramarenko got a 0 on vault. She only came back in 2011 when Belu and Bitang came back to coaching.

    I can see how she changes in terms of personality. In her career around the 2004 olympic year she tends to play cool, but in here she shows a very friendly attitude towards her younger teammates. She understands her role as a big sister of the team, that she has an impact on the younger ones.

  • @tekkenfan01

    @ParanoidAndroidDA well thats just another problem with the code...the age issue...people forget that Shushunova was a young gymnast in 1985 when she won, Moceanu was 14 in Atlanta..its so hard for these gymnast to compete past the age of 18..some have beaten the odds but a majority either are so tired or just go on to college...Weiber is 16 now...so she might stay around but with college costing more, she might take a schloarship over stay the elite route. So Ponor is awesome in this vid.

    @ParanoidAndroidDA this is just another example for the scoring in gymnastics to be examined and changed...I hope they make the right decisions for 2013 because a team that only does great on one event shouldn't metal...same about the All Around. Very crazy that a gymnast can fall these days and can be considered the best.

    @ParanoidAndroidDA Well Weiber is at her max almost..the only thing she didn't compete was her double double on bars dismount...Komova gave us a watered down version of Youth Olympics 2010 and Yao was brand new...Komova will improve tons and put a lot of her old stuff in and upgrade floor as well. Weiber...not sure what else she can upgrade she is already pretty much at max.

    @ParanoidAndroidDA I agreed with most of the gold medalist based on this code. I thought that Afan was the clear winner on floor Sui Lu on beam....Komova on bars and damn...Vault was easy with Maroney...but All Around was iffy for me as well as team but I can see where the judges came from....its just so confusing this code...I want to know how they will change it

    And to be honest, we're not so bad in fact, only that many foreigners like to believe that we are, we have many bad stuff going on - and our problem is that we wash things publicly, we give even more reasons to be seen badly - but with all that there are talented,working, intelligent and nice people too. I had many arguments with foreigners on YB because of their way of judging us, even I started to judge their countries and them, because many of them are plain ignorant.

    I agree with you, like I said we got lazy, I guess and many countries like us like that. We are great buyers, what is built in my country lately are malls, malls, drug stores and stuff like that and people here, so many, complain about money but they spend all day in malls and have luxurious cars. I will not be a blind person in my patriotism and not accept these faults we have, that would mean to be really stupid.

    lets see the jump back in the first pas her for in the second pass and her landing was a little off and that 3 twist was not as good as it could be... add those up and i think it makes the deductions. But for the record I think she is an amazing gymnast and i like her a lot

  • @djprojectus
    @djprojectus 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @CopGymnast861 the judges are looking for error,is their job to do that but the rest of us we can apreciate the good thing she does and not be so harsh with a gymnast that she trained just 6 months.

  • @tekkenfan01
    @tekkenfan01 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No doubt Catalina is skillful. She's been doing it longer than most current gymnast. One of the test for a gymnast is to be able to still do it well passed 16. Funny because I have to keep telling people that "it's not a beauty contest" as well because the world is pretty shallow. I like artistry as much as the next person and Americans have the least. But sticking the landings and not falling is more important now than artistry.

    A guy from the USA "you think you know better, why don't you complain there", as if they will take us into account! We don't ask for much, I'd say, from others, just to be respected, to be treated fairly and to be free to make our economy better, we know we can do it but we are forced to follow some rules that no one does but we are the only ones who have to. Every time they don't like how we handle something. Do we butt in your countries so much - no, we respect them, why do you in ours.

    I think the judges kinda of screwed her over today on floor. Her d-score might not have been as high as Raisman, but her execution was better, and for some reason they still found something in her routine to deduct a whole point.

  • @ChainChomp2
    @ChainChomp2  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mostly along the line of double tucks (especially when there is a double pike elsewhere in the routine), doing jumps/leaps, no matter how unclean, out of tumbles both difficult or relatively easy...point being Ponor went all-out with her tumbling as opposed to others who participated and didn't do anything hinting exploitation to getting a good score.

  • @MMiraJeS
    @MMiraJeS 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Talking about rich lands, like I said, the way I see it we sort of have to act like they aren't even there, when we entered NATO, UE we didn't enter for free, I think it cost us more than it cost on so many other countries. Since we entered we just succeeded traveling easier...we didn't evolve anywhere else, richer countries win so much money from us and they sort of put stops to every good project here, I think many don't really want us to evolve much, we're a good market - I repeat.

    Mistakes were more permissible with the old code because they could actually drop a score. The 3 up, 3 count rule minimizes room for error. Remember Russia in the 2007 WAG when one of them missed the vault and they lost all hopes of getting a medal. They need to fix rewarding Difficulty over execution. Cheng Fei and Maroney getting medals in the Olympics was insulting to those who didn't fall. You could also name Li Shanshan in 2007. They havent done anything to fix that.

    @ramaiana60 If you don't like that I hated her on floor it was because she was hugely overrated and overscored and she didn't complete half the dance moves she attempted weren't completed, like the triple-popa and the double tuck jump which the judges blindly credited her for time and time again. Secondly, her twisting had (and has) worse form than Liukin, Mustafina, and even Nabieva. I never said I hated her on beam though, where she was always the best when she competed (and still is IMO).

  • @MMiraJeS
    @MMiraJeS 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The biggest problem for my country, is that we are ruled by other nations and not by ours, and again we were many times treated with so much lack of respect that many, here, thought that only by kissing butts he/she will achieve smth, and the problems is that they do. Lately it seems that professionals aren't really wanted anymore in this world, many companies don't like their workers to think and many times they might have a good idea.

    Have you seen people lately to work with the same dedication, we stay on YB and FB, that is not work, but some win from our leisure time. I did journalism but I renounced watching TV or reading too much the media, it's like we're formed to be, world-wide even, like this - lazy, not caring, racists etc. You are right, I will not be a blind patriot, I know where our faults are but I also know that many exaggerate them greatly.

    @MMiraJeS 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Somehow that is why I am still in my country, why should I be treated with disrespect by others. I think of myself as an inexperienced person in many fields but with the power to adapt. The problem with politics here, even more obvious than in other countries...is the desire to get rich fast, the rest may all die of starvation. Politics is dirty everywhere anyway, but here tends to be more obvious and we do complain but we don't do anything, maybe that's how we were manipulated to be,don't know.

  • @MMiraJeS
    @MMiraJeS 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry if that seemed like offending a bit but I wanted to make my point a clearer. Now considering this, the idea of never marrying might not be the best choice...think of one thing...you can be different than other guys and help her. In my family this is how it is, they do everything together and though dad doesn't know how to cook, he always helps. I don't know, the level of crimes,accidents etc is in many countries bigger than births. Have a nice day.

    @ParanoidAndroidDA Well I think the age thing is overrated..like I said before Shannon Miller, Gutsu, Bogi in 1988 all were very young gymnast at the olympic level and were just fine and the list is many of gymnast under the age of 15 that were competing on the world stage level...this is why they could make it to 2 or more olympics..now we are lucky to see them at 1.
