    Social media is one of the enemy's greatest tools. If I don't stay away from it, I'm way too distracted from the Lord, and not just during the time spent on social media, but it continues to distract my thoughts all throughout the day and night. Maybe some believers can do it, but not me.

    It’s important to know that the older person and church for that matter has the Holy Spirit and hears from them. Years and experience are nothing in God’s eyes compared to obedience of one’s life. I (25) seek out mature older men who are filled with His Spirit over those the world just calls “wise”. It’s quite frankly hard today because so much of the older generation have no idea what the true gospel is and churches have been failing for years. I’ve been led astray by many older people and churches for the sake of “submitting” Seek those who seek the LORD and make you seek Him over themselves. Above all seek His Holy Spirit as your father, your teacher, mentor and submit to Him before any other. He’ll show you who needs to be in your life and who can pour into you. Be wise and gentle Saints.

    I'm 22. My church is small, and therefore we don't seperate much by age. I have made friends with women, 10, 20, even 40 years older than myself and it has been such a blessing in my life. I love to hang out with a couple of the women in their 30s and 40s at the playground or at their homes. We talk as their kids are playing. They have taught me so much about marriage and motherhood, and the ways God has worked in their lives. I am so grateful for their friendship.

    I'm a younger christian here in Brazil, i have twenty years, and i see those ideia of yours very need here in Brazil. The pastors and elders, are looking for things that can grab the young and teen in the church, fearing that any moment they can just jump off the church. I reconize that the youngs must be the more intensive in piety, and must look for ways to walks with elders godlys men. And i'm very criticise by this point of view, they even call me "older". And see these kind of videos give animation for me, to see that this is the way how i must persevere. Ps.: Sorry for my english.

      I understood your sentence, it is good you know these things. Im not sure if the people that are calling you "older/elder" are mocking you, it is a good thing to be set apart and be different from them(for any righteous reason). You may not fit in with people around you but its ok because you have God.

      We've got to remember that it's not so much how long we read, as much as it is are we meditating on it and then taking what we've learned and living it out (James 1:22). But indeed there are some who read a ton and it is no effect on their life. It goes in one ear and out the other.

    • @josedopwell4990
      @josedopwell4990 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      mum Jones, if the leadership of your church behaves as you've described, that's very disturbing.
      Jesus commanded Peter to feed his lambs, and tend and feed his sheep. It's not enough to give a good Sunday sermon then hit the exits.
      Sometimes out of pride (the original sin) people covet the position, power and title of being elders while ignoring/refusing/forgetting that the greatest in our Heavenly Father and Jesus's eyes are the GLAD SERVANTS OF EVERYONE ELSE (Matthew 20:26 and 23:11). I added the word glad because it's easy to go through the motions of doing what's right while having one's heart completely elsewhere. That's called hypocrisy (see Matthew 6:1-18 and Matthew 23, the whole chapter).
      Jesus, the Chief Shepherd, took the form of a servant and humbled himself even unto death on the cross (Philippians 2:1-11-a fantastic passage about TRUE HUMILITY from the example of Jesus).
      Without being bitter and/or a gossip, you may want to ask other brothers and sisters if they share a similar view of the elders. If you find some that do, you may want to verbally present your case to them. If you don't feel comfortable with that you can put it in writing and each sign it .
      Regardless of which method you use, keep an eye on the response of those in question. Do they disregard what has been said to them? Do they snap back out of anger or irritation? Or are they grieved that there are members of the body who are hurting and believe they are being underserved? Do they want to engage in a scriptural dialogue to avoid a root of bitterness springing up and causing trouble (Hebrews 12:15)? Or do they dismiss you as inexperienced/younger/ignorant/uneducated? The Pharisees were, unfortunately, quite skilled at such arrogance and dismissiveness.
      God throughout his word takes issue with the leaders of his people. When they are neglectful and/or indulging in self-interest it greatly angers him. He hates when people lord over his sheep for their own gain rather than out of love for him, Jesus and the sheep (John 10:11-15).
      I hope that you can resolve this issue in a peaceful, loving way that glorifies God. Who knows? Jesus may use you to help stir the elders up to return to their first love!! God bless you. Remember to trust the truth, for Jesus is the truth.

      Thank you and God Bless for your reply.
      In probably an ungodly way and out of frustration I did mention to my pastor that I'd only spoken to the back of his head and that comment was spoken to the back of his head lol.. then for a season I went to another church.. but God has called me back, reluctantly I returned and many others as well. .perplexed?
      There have many changes since my departure and return and well for the better 😊
      I desperately need my pastors or an elders support and wisdom atm. . And I may possibly get it 😊 praise God for that..
      Would you your self have any wisdom on intercessory TRAVAIL prayer please.. God has increased it and Satan is attacking harder than ever.. long story but any advice would be so greatly received. . Blessings. . Samantha

      @josedopwell4990 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +mum Jones, I will definitely pray for you. I hope that the progress between elders and the flock will continue. It's something that needs to be maintained because with just a little bit of spiritual laziness whatever gains are made will quickly disappear. And that can be disheartening.
      With that being said, it's crucial that we look to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). While it's natural for us to look to other human beings for leadership, believers must also remain aware that we are all sinners, broken people in desperate need of God's mercy and grace. People let each other down for reasons justifiable, cruel or accidental. We're not perfect. But Jesus is. God desires that we narrow down our interests and trust in him only. That doesn't mean we treat others with disdain

    • @josedopwell4990
      @josedopwell4990 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +mum Jones , sorry, cut myself off!! 😆😎
      We don't treat others with disdain but we need to understand that every one of us is fallible. It's the human condition since Eve and Adam made bad choices in the garden of Eden.
      I encourage you to pray, to get alone with your Heavenly Father. I've been reading Luke lately and it mentions several times that Jesus went alone to pray. If Jesus saw the need to do that, how much more do you and I need to do the same?
      Also reading and studying God's word, especially beyond the confines of the weekly sermon. God rewards those who diligently seek him. And there's no better place to find him than in his word. The word is food for the spirit. How many of us eat physically only on Sundays? Yet so many believers barely pick up the word themselves during the week with the desire for Holy Spirit-inspired understanding. That just starves our spirits.
      Memorizing bible verses and passages is incredibly important and helpful in overcoming sin. In Psalm 119:11 David said, "I have laid up thy word in my heart that I might not sin against (God)."
      I don't know how many people are in your church, but it would be great to find a few serious minded brothers and sisters to talk about your fight of the faith (1Timothy 6:12, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). There is no such thing as a lonely Christian. A true Christian will seek fellowship and interaction with other members of the body of Christ. There are over 50 "one another" verses in the New Testament (love, forgive, encourage, pray for, et al). it's not possible nor is it God's will that we remain alone.
      I encourage you to keep drawing near to God. He loves you and He wants you to be in his kingdom more than you want to be there.

    When I was a child, my parents wouldn't guide me or teach me or take me to a chapel service, so whenever I could get around people my age or if there were adults around I would prefer to go to the adults and get answers and guidance from them. But those adults would say why are you talking to an adult like me? Why don't you go play with the kids around your age? And when I was a teenager, I would walk to a Chapel service since my family wouldn't take me, but overtime if I kept regularly attending, the pastor's would hate me and despise me and even kick me out of the service because I was serious about Christ. I wanted to know the word of God, I wanted to take it seriously, I wanted to be straightforward and honest with everything we would discuss in a youth class and even when we're not having the service anymore and we're just hanging around eating during Fellowship, people would ask me questions, and they would not like to hear the truth. At least most of them. So the pastor's, would always get complaints from others in the chapel about me that I'm ruining their fun and happiness, and they would want me to shut up, they don't want me talking about the Bible, they don't want me sounding smarter than their pastor, they don't want me being there looking like I'm willing to give more time to stay there night and day at the chapel even outside to read the Bible or stay to help others understand God's word which makes it look like their pastor leaves out important truths even about the Gospel. people were thinking of me like I'm trying to be better than everybody else as if I think highly of myself. But that was not the case, it's just that there's nothing else in this world I wanted but Christ and I knew I used to be a lost wretched sinner but I was led to God's word and Jesus Christ saved me, and now I want to grow to be more like Christ and it's really hard to do it alone. And I went from one Church to another church to another church for years and years and years, and I cannot find one simple church that will teach the truth or even just let me even be there unless i just say hello goodbye and sit down and don't tell others what i believe or ask questions or it'll offend them.
    How can you get upset with young adults or even the teenagers if they're forced out of the chapel because they want to read the Bible and they want to grow to be more like Christ, and they just don't want to be a part of the church Club to have a good time, to sing and to hear the pastor's jokes and such on stage?
    Everywhere we go now, Church isn't so much a thing for Christians anymore, it's more of fake Christians just having a little party club. Even pastor's have told us that church is a great business. He literally meant he does it for money and wasn't afraid to admit it, but rather bragged.
    They want to sing, they want to say nice words that they don't actually mean, they don't really want to create a personal relationship with you, they don't want to be your friend, they don't want to help each other, they don't want to sit down and have a one-on-one discussion about Christ in His word with you, the pastor's don't have time for you, they're just going to preach and then run away as fast as they can to their next meal.
    and I have also heard similar things to this from a lot of other people, while I was visiting some of those services some other young men who just got saved we're even willing to drive out of state because they say I have went to every single Chapel in my state and I can't find one that will teach the truth and want to actually live the way the Bible tells us we should in the church. They can't find a place but doesn't want to just hold a one-hour service of having a fun time and then leaving.
    I know this video is like three years old, but I just think we're at that point in the world where Satan has infiltrated the church and filled most with false preachers and false prophets and fake Christians who like their ears to be tingled by entertainment. And I am sure there are true Christians within those, but they're not really having a pleasant time either and they're not growing much because they're not really having any guidance, they pretty much just go into the service sit , greet people, and then leave because they're not really allowed to do much more than that.
    Over time, I'm still coming across a lot of people at a lot of different ages even some of them crying saying they can't find a chapel service that will do any more than just let you sit there and listen to their entertainment. There are many Christians hungering for truth and hungering to have fellowship with each other and to have some guidance and encouragement from others to be more like Christ, but this is quite a rare thing to find, and from seeing the preachers online or on TV that are true, their services are way too far away for me to attend.

      I'm in the same boat. It is hard to find Christians who truly enjoy exalting Christ and sharing how the Lord is teaching them, listening and praying for each other. I have found more clownish, shallow, type of people who enjoy cutting up like the world rather than serious believers. I never felt like I "belonged" in these types of churches. Those types of church's being mainstream evangelical.

    While it is important for a younger Christian to fellowship with an older believer, one of the biggest mistakes is regarding those who are older and have been church members longer as being more mature in the faith. We should respect our elders (little "e") but I've ran into more than a few 50 year old infants in Christ. And not just new believers, but men/women who have been in the church for decades. I think the best advice is to walk with more mature believers even if they're 10 years older.

    Realistically one of the few good solutions is to eliminate the watching of television to regain the time, and if that's not feasible at least leave it for the weekend. It's bad enough that tablets and smartphones have stolen the attention of most children, and it's only going to get worse as VR makes it's push to the forefront of entertainment over the next 5-7 years.

I’m not going to be spending 5-7 hours everyday just reading the Bible and praying, you know, it’s just not going to happen. I don’t want to get burned out because that’s happened to me before. Brother you need to pray and seek the shelter of a local church. Paul Washer, as good as he is, is not your spiritual shepherd. The book of Hebrews tells us to not stop meeting one another to encourage each other. You cannot function properly unless you are in a body of believers who will pray for you and guide you with their love.

      I hear you brother. I have struggled with similar things. I encourage you, however, to get plugged in to a local church. Paul Washer was actually the one who stressed that importance to me. We NEED to be involved in our local church for our spiritual health and that of others. God commands us to be partakers in the local gathering of believers and we need to obey. I pray that the Lord delivers you from your struggles, helps you to get connected to a biblical local church and that He conforms your mind, heart and will to those of His. In Jesus’ name, amen.

    Modern entertainment INTENTIONALLY portrays adults and older generations as ignorant. Just look at some of the latest trends like “Ok Boomer”. That will break the passing down of experience and knowledge, and make the young minds extremely vulnerable to all winds of doctrine and thinking.

    Well I'm 26 .. I found God when I was pretty young .. around 21 .. but I wasn't saved or even awake yet .. long after even I was annointed or baptized .. I don't see being distracted reasons of age .. no .. it's the parents fault and how the kids are raised . .. straight fact plenty are distracted on .. not always parents fault .. but like he said at the end of the video . They got wisdom .. but you see what Good it will accomplish when just as distracted as bad if not worst then the ones who are young.. I have litterealy the shortest attention span so it's not so easy to distract me as the devil would think . Me and plenty others seen straight through that .. most people my age don't even have friends . .. now that's what I call a myth .. an old wives tale 😂 some told you true well .. what lie the devil tells some people I wonder to keep them so distracted .. I was literally just asking before I saw this .. no coincidents .. ever with God He will reach a generation not even seen yet . But only those with ears will hear and those with eyes will see .. not all will sleep in these times .. many were called few are chosen.
    As first 1st. Timothy also explains not looking down just because they are young .. but yes .. distracted ... the devil doesn't care about the ones he already controls .. hence brings lead into deceptions .. distractions .. and eventually lawlessness. .. just a little yeast works thrkugh the dough. Meaning the church is reflecting that very distraction among false idol worship and half truth interpretation some people give on how it's possible we can be serving both God and money when scripture clearly explains in n/t have nothing to do with it. Flesh vs spirit these days. One contradicting the other. Even if saved you still have to distract yourself from what ? The fact none of us are and the devil is leading the entire world astray and we all fall short as scripture testifies .. but move freely as GODS grace abides in Christ Jesus . Can I also mention didn't the law even distract the Jews at one point ?? I just think we're missing something here but can't quite put my finger on it ? .. maybe the running waters of life Jesus mentions..

    I think that Mr. Tomlinson is very likely a godly man. I don't want to take away from that at all. But I cannot help but be frustrated hearing him talk about the local church as though there are godly congregations with wise and discerning men of God to minister, preach, and disciple.
    I was saved at 18, I am now 38 and I do not know of a godly preacher in my state. Not one. Maybe it's different in the Bible belt but up in the New York/New Jersey area a bigger reason that young Christians don't think very highly of the church is because the church they encounter isn't worth thinking very highly of.

    • @illbehonest
      @illbehonest  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Joseph, I think it is important to recognize that the reason we can have confidence that there are godly congregations is that it is the Lord's doing. He raises up men to shepherd the flock. I am not saying there is not a famine in the land, there is, but there are churches that hold to the essentials of the Gospel of Christ. We have compiled a list of some that we know of, you could take a look here: illbehonest.com/local-church

      Thank you, I appreciate your quick response and assistance. My statement came off a bit stronger than I intended. I meant to say there aren't many, not that there aren't any.

      I agree with you brother. The pastors in California are too scared to preach against the New Age movement that is very strong in this state. Weak churches here where the pastor spends as much time watching Avengers movies as he does preparing for a sermon. It's pityful!

      I'll Be Honest you list 3 churches in California. Do you know the size and population of California? It's larger than a lot of countries! And it has only 3 churches. I'd have to drive 6 hours to find one of those churches. It's ridiculous

      "And it has only 3 churches." Well, we can only put churches that we know of. So no doubt there are more that could be recommended if we knew of them. But our list can only be as big as our knowledge of churches are.
